Remedy now owns the publishing rights to Alan Wake

Remedy announced today 2.5 million euros of one-time royalty income from previously released games. In addition, the team has finally secured the publishing rights to Alan Wake which was previously owned by Microsoft.

As the press release reads, for its first half-year period of 2019, Remedy Entertainment records approximately 2.5 million euros of royalties from previously released games as one-time income. The royalties are paid to Remedy during the second half-year period of 2019. In relation to this, the publishing rights of Alan Wake games are reverted to Remedy.

We already knew that Remedy owned the Alan Wake IP but the publishing rights for every Alan Wake game, including any upcoming games based on that IP, were owned by Microsoft. Now that the development team also owns the publishing rights, we may see a brand new Alan Wake game.

Do note that the fact that the publishing rights were returned to Remedy does not mean that the team is working on a new Alan Wake game. Remedy is currently busy with its new supernatural action adventure game, Control, which releases on August 27th.

The press release concludes that this one-time income does not significantly affect Remedy’s full year result, because as previously reported, the company continues to invest in developing new games, the success of which have a greater impact on the company’s full year revenue and result.

Whether this one-time income has anything to do with Control releasing exclusively on the Epic Games Store remains a mystery.

  1. Who Gives a sh*t. We all know what they’re gonna do with it. EPIC HOSTAGE EXCLUSIVE. Fuq Off remedy, i hope all you die from the result of Flaming GPU.

      1. Yes the steam sales are very bad. I haven’t participated in them since 2012. My biggest but was in 2012, then 2014 I just stopped all together. Got all the games I want and the Games nowadays are all trash. Besides, because of 3rd party key sites, steam sales are meaningless. You have steam sales 24/7’s now. Also I’m trying to only buy my games from GoG these days. I need to own what I worked hard to buy. I do very grooling, sometimes back breaking work. Therefore I need to own what I pay for, so GoG it is…

        1. The game i need was metro 4$ the division 2 30$ Detroit become human 10$ world war z 8$ control 17$.
Steam sale was great but the last 4 year was really bad so stop liking steam as×××× because they are getting worse and worse every year

Ah i forgot I never bought anything from steam all from g2a or cdkeys cause better price

          1. Wow shi**y games for that much? Besides that’s BS control was removed from those sales just like detroit because Epic weren’t authorized by their respective software houses to discount those games, and same for metro if you’re talking about exodus. Nicely done stupid retrd, you sound like a proper troll.

          2. Thx for those nice words keyboard warrior control was removed yes but for 1 day and metro was 4$ because i live in 3rd world so at least epic is doing something good and btw stop raging your as×× will explode for doing this

          3. Yeah they’re doing “Something” good, discount games in third world countries isn’t anything good, if you’re actually in a third world country, playing videogames should be the last of your worries. Raging? I’m not raging, how can i rage over such BS spouted from random idiots on the internet?

          4. Ohhh you’re living in a 3rd world country so you must fight dinosaurs every morning, it’s third world not the f*cking mordor, his arguments defending Epic are stup*d as sh*t, but yours are hall of fame

          5. First of all, those prices as i already said, those prices were decided erroneously and corrected immediately, second what i meant is if you really live in a third world country and you emphasize this thing, it means you are poor or anyway not living in wealthy conditions, so videogames should be something you buy sometimes, if at all, and if you can afford videogames as much as someone who lives in a first or second world country, it’s fair you pay as much as the other, with the VAT your country has. I live in europe, the poor part of it, do you think steam hasn’t pissed me off when they converted 1$ to 1€ for us, still the difference isn’t that much, and if i can afford one, i can also afford the other, besides why should i pay much less compared to others for tenth level commodities?

          6. Man i get that, i just said, that you can live in a poor country (most of them) and still invest money on entertainment and games, without being the president of the country, beside that, your arguments are relevant and i know you were right since the beginning, it’s just to get rid of some stereotypes

          7. Ok, but don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying that if you live in a poor country you don’t have to buy games, i said it shouldn’t be a basic commodity, so all that fkin thing about Epic (erroneously) discounting stuff in third world countries doesn’t really sound like a pretty stupid and fake way to defend epic, why would anyone defend epic also, how brain damaged could one be to do such thing?

          8. Maybe just an astroturfer, Epic (and other companies) has a lot of them on all social media and PC based sites like this one

          9. They might have as many as they want, i’ll keep having insults for them, and i’ll keep shutting that sewer they have for mouth.

          10. I think it’s pointless, most of the time they are just bots, sometimes they are some paid guys who don’t even know what’s Epic or Steam, best you can do is to ignore them

    1. Oh it most definitely will. EGS will make it happen for sure and it will ONLY be available on Epic store. Remedy will eventually get bought up by epic games. Mark my words bro… These developers loves to serve a master. Look at IO Interactive… Finally got their independence from Square Fuqenix; then ran into the arms of WB games.

  2. I’ll never understand what people liked about this game.
It’s nothing but contextual puzzles, linear progression and basic b*tch third person shooting with some gimmicks.

Comparing it to Max Payne 1 or 2 which are the peak of quality for Third Person Shooter games and it makes it look even worse.

    1. Great visuals, great story, great atmosphere, great voice acting, great gameplay, a long game, great mechanics and shooting feel, great music.

You kinda feel the lack of bosses or set pieces, but Alan Wake is amazing.

      1. Great atmosphere, mechanics and gameplay?
Not really, atmosphere is great for the first few minutes during the intro but then it’s promptly gone replaced by spooky shadows.

        Shooting feel?
        What shooting feel?
        Gunplay is average at best

        1. complete the game when you’re in mood and i promise you when you’re finished beating it, you’ll love it or at least like it.

    2. Not comparing it to Max Payne, which was undoubtedly better, but this is a pretty good game too, surely much better than that turd of Quantum Break, and probably much better even than that supposed turd of Control.

      1. It’s just a really average game
All the praise I remember it having was due to it being a 360 exclusive for a year.

  3. Kim stfu and leave forever.

Max Payne was an exceedingly mediocre game. Poor level design, boring gameplay after the first game, only half decent part was the story. And Rockstar made it even worse.

    1. LMAO Max Payne was one of the best games in the last 20 years what the fck are you talking about.
