3D Realms has released a new video, showing 22 minutes of gameplay footage from the PAX East 2019 build of WRATH: Aeon of Ruin. This retro first-person shooter is powered by the Quake Engine and promises to embrace the timeless elements of classic titles such as DOOM, QUAKE, DUKE NUKEM 3D, BLOOD, UNREAL and HEXEN and carries them into the 21st century.
Players will explore a vast world shrouded in darkness, passionately crafted by the hands of expert Quake scene necromancers, will have access to nine weapons and will traverse 3 hubs and 15 enormous, interconnected levels crawling with hordes of enemies, lore and ancient secrets.
The game is also built from the ground up to be easily moddable. Make your own levels, weapons and characters. From day one, the very tools used to create WRATH will be available for all.
3D Realms and 1C Company aim to release WRATH: Aeon of Ruin this Summer on the PC.
Enjoy!

Loved Quake, really wish that had Coop like the old game did.
I got a a little Blood in my Quake mixed with my Unreal and my Doom games, and I love every single second of this hybrid mashup goodness
It seems a bit slow. Was wondering if they even had a running animation for enemies. But judging the whole gameplay presentation, it seems like the enemy difficulty/movement speed was ramping up a bit as it progressed. Still, here’s hoping its a bit more intense like the original Quake where pretty much every single enemy wanted to rip you apart in seconds…now that’s frantic fps!
Looks fun but the game is definitely too dark. It makes it hard to take in details and everything comes across looking very samey.
It’s 2019. Games can have color now.
Looks quite colorful to me. You may have a legitimate point about the art style but the way you phrased it I can’t agree. Trees are brown, plants are green, blood and health items are red, enemy attacks are blue etc. All the colors are there.
You’re out of your mind.
i just dont find myself enjoying games like this and dusk, the gameplay is good but those visuals had their time and kinda breaks it for me, when i was playing those games back in 1990’s all i wanted was those kinda games with better visuals, and now for some reason we are going back to late 1990’s visuals, even if the gameplay kicks ass(and in the case of dusk it does) those visuals are unnaceptable nowaday i dont care about the nostalgic feels they dont even looks stylistic, you want games with weak visuals but with a strong stylistic look that make them looks good check prodeus.
I totally agree. The visuals lack anything that makes it stand out. The textures are plain and lack character, and the environments as a whole look like a fan mod out of the early 2000s.
It needs something. Even better lighting would really help.
really? Modern games due to graphics have slow paced gameplay and in the end of the days its about the gameplay not the graphics.
Looks pretty good, don’t know what the fck are you people talking about.
This is amazing. But can you strafejump? The player kind of seems to attempt it at one point, only for a moment.
Enemy and level design shine brightly in this demo, weapon variety is good and the jump-dash mechanic looks like it will never get old. Speaking of which, I don’t share the concern over speed. Even if there’s no strafejumping with the dash movement seems like it’ll be fast enough. Besides, speed is relative. It looks like you’re constantly surrounded by dozens of enemies so you’re concerned with dodging projectile attacks while shooting back at the hordes. It looks like it works wonderfully. Faster movement would make dodging easier. There’s a delicate balance here and I am in awe at what they’ve shown.
Man those pixely textures really put me off, especially since there are mods for quake 2 that make it look hd and not to mention duke 3d.
I dont like how the music never goes full action mode or its not catchy like hexen and heretic.
Other than that it looks great.
I bet journos will say its the dark souls of shooters.
lol wut?
