A lot of PC gamers were disappointed when they discovered earlier this week that Metro Exodus will be using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. Naturally, the game’s Steam forum was filled with threads asking Deep Silver and 4A Games to reconsider it and remove it. And, surprisingly enough, the publisher has responded and stated its policy regarding Metro Exodus and all of its future games.
Deep Silver stated that its policy is to protect its PC games with Denuvo, meaning that this stance will not change (at least in the foreseeable future).
“It is Deep Silver policy to protect our PC games with Denuvo, and we’ve worked with 4A Games to ensure this will not affect your experience.”
Unfortunately, the publisher did not state whether it plans to remove Denuvo once – and if – the game gets cracked. In case this happens in the first week, Deep Silver will be only hurting itself by keeping it. However, and given the company’s history, we can safely assume that there are no plans to remove it when this happens.
Metro Exodus is currently scheduled for a February 15th release!

Seems like Deep Silver had the last word about Denuvo!
Still gotta support 4A, making amazing PC, games with great ports, no pre order incentives other than the soundtrack and an art book, no micro transactions, no in game currency, no loot boxes, only an Expansion Pass, something lost when developers realized they could charge for skins and horses armor!
Gladly would buy this game with Denuvo, than Mortal Kombat XI without it, but probably filled with micro transactions, loot boxes, and in game currency!
4A is one of the good ones, no fault of the developers that the publisher wants to stick denuvo inside their creation!
Preorder incentives, mtx and loot boxes are also possibly enforced by publishers rather than devs. Publishers care about money _only_.
You are probably right, that does not change the fact that this game will have none, while every Ubi, EA, Warner game is filled to the brim with them!
I agree
Won’t affect mine as I’ll be waiting for the “CPY sale” a few weeks later. Thankfully, I don’t have the patience of two year old.
Nah a two year old doesn’t know how to steal!
You have patience, you just don’t have any shame!
You’re right. I don’t.
Guess you could learn some things from a two year old then!
But who am I kidding!
The things I’ve seen two year olds do, you hold them in too high regard. Shameless little animals.
I’m sure you buy every single piece of media entertainmet out there buddy,
Not really I just like to support these single player developers, instead of stealing their hard work causing them to disappear!
And even if I did, good for me right? That would mean I earn the money to do so!
The developers alreay got paid for their work surely. Or maybe you are just an hypocrite.
Ouch, nice one there buddy!
As I said if I can afford my own high end PC at the very least I can afford to buy games for it.
But it seems you wouldn’t know anything about that!
Developers absolutely do not get their funding until the game sales. Games sales entirely fund their next project as well.
cracked denuvo still has denuvo cancer in it.
At least you don’t pay money for it.
its free cancer 🙂 😀 YOU GET CANCER FOR FREE 😀 🙂
Yep, never said it didn’t, but NeonPanda hit the nail on the head.
The denuvo outrage comes from pirates who don’t want to wait till a crack comes out!
They don’t really care about denuvo!
The denuvo outrage comes from if/when denuvo authentication servers go down legit paying customers cant play “their” game, but filthy pirates can. to me that is anti consumer
You can pirate all of those day one, shared accounts and other ways are still there.
well… i like metro but not enough to buy a jewnuvo game. sorry 4A. maybe you will get a better publisher some day.
It will be protected for a day or two, or a week if cpy is lazy.
I’ll just say this: A well crafted game doesn’t need to have Denuvo. Period.
Yours is the BEST comment under this topic. Hats off ! 😀
Where is the pre-order page for Cyberpunk2077?
You put that succinctly. I wish I could give you more than one up vote.
You’re suggesting people don’t pirate good games? Because I know for a fact that’s not true. Good games are pirated more. The data is out there if you look it up.
I didn’t say that. But really well made games sells enough that piracy doesn’t really affect the success of the game. People will always pirate games. But developers will not always make really great games, and even less so nowadays than before.
And good games (without denuvo) also sell more. Prime example: The Witcher 3.
I’m really not convinced most people care about Denuvo(or even realize it exists). Most of the time, it is completely incognito and you can’t even tell it is there unless the internet tells you.
Sure, people get all upset about it on game sites, but that’s just what people do on these things. They get upset about things. No one I personally know has ever complained about it or even realized it was there, myself included.
Well, there’s all the reports on AC Origins, but I wasn’t talking about performance at all. It’s the company’s attitude of being more concerned about their profit, than the product itself/consumer.
(BTW, I forgot to mention GTA V, another product free of denuvo, that sold, and still sells, gazillions).
Bottom line, even with denuvo, Metro Exodus WILL be cracked/pirated… As AC Origins AND Odyssey were, as Battlefield V was, as Just Cause 4 was (in just a couple of days, mind you), and they will lose money. And it’s THEIR fault (NOT the pirates/crackers), because they chose to go that way.
Unfortunately that’s not true. Too many idiots already know how to get the stuff for free on the internet, it’s way too easy for the n00bs.
Im giving them a week!

how is it not going to affect the game !
again useless
Haha, they said absolutely nothing with that statement. I just laughed when in read it..
Big shocker that a game studio that’s put out their games on Steam, a DRM, used another form of it. I’m so fuc*ing outraged right now!
I may not purchase the game now.
Oh wait, no, I’m still going to purchase it.
Might as well do like all the PR of other companies and just ignore fans on this subject and pay up some drones to defend their bullshit instead

Kudos to them for at least admitting forcing the devs to use denuvo instead of using 4A as meat shield
”
we’ve worked with 4A Games to ensure this will not affect your experience.”Yeah I know right guys? ?
Darn, was going to get this game. This is a dealbreaker for me, until it is gone.
Called it in the other article ” Really sucks they have to resort to Denuvo, I 100% blame the publisher 🙁 “.
As much as DRM sucks there are just too many good SP PC games that use Denuvo that I have to get and help support the SP cause. I will be 100% getting this on day 1 as a huge Metro, FPS and Open World fan.
I would love to see in a test/alternative universe where they did a DRM free launch and included GOG on day one as well and then compare both PC sales(with DRM and without). I still truly 100% believe it be higher DRM free. …guess we will never know 🙁
“cancer that is killing gaming” = supporting a dev that makes SP games for the PC, ok Boss. Why don’t you just go play Fortnite, I think your confused.
I don’t know about you but I rather play a SP game that has DRM like every other game that is on Steam rather than a F2P BR.
So you play exclusively on GOG right and don’t use Steam? Cause if you don’t then your are hypocrite. LOL you have 6,381 games on Steam, let me guess they are all DRM free? Jesus Christ Man WTF, really?
Also why are you playing the RESIDENT EVIL 2 demo? You know it has Denuvo right? What is up with you owning TEKKEN 7, I read your review you know that game has Denuvo right? What freaking joke, WTF your problem?
Most multiplayer games are garbage no story no good missions forcing always online and playing with some random idiots from the web. Single player games have way more quality from multiplayer kiddie junk like Fortnite also GAMES LIKE ANTHEM OR DESTINY ARE THE REAL CANCER
With the hype this game is getting (rightfully so imo due to 2033 & LL), crackers will be on it full steam.
Unless this game is protected by an amazing version of Denuvo, I don’t see how it can last uncracked for long.
Also, I really think these studios should start providing smaller file sizes (like fitgirl or some other repackers), where the consumers can download only the necessary files.
The way fitgirl provides options to avoid downloading a sh*t ton of useless language and “Extra” files is a god send for people who don’t want to waste huge data in downloading and storing the unnecessary file.
People always cry about Denuvo , but still downvote you and insult you if you tell them to support a game that doesn’t have it in Crackwatch and other places
Entitled thieves …
Previous Metro games were pirated like crazy , i don’t blame the devs for using it.
I check that subreddit regularly and there’s usually a top voted post encouraging people to buy the game so…
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/6d9ba9950931fa665b354e7e9441f337976d70300e1642836474ba21ceb1c3b7.png
And you are crying about getting downvote on a piracy dedicated sub-reddit here.
Entitled Moron.
All i see is a developer who has lost confidence in their game and has to use a sh**ty method to make some desperate sales. After watching the new trailers i gotta say this game gives me FO4 vibes. I really hope this game is good but i’m losing faith fast.
Sega with 14 denuvo games with 3 games having removed Denuvo.
Deep Silver with 2 games before Metro but both removed after THQ bought them.
Now the tables have flipped and Sega has no denuvo while DS/THQ is adding it. Funny.
What are you talking about dude, all of Sega’s games have be been releasing when Denuvo at Day 1. The has only been 5-7 games that have removed Denuvo since its existence.
Recently released Sega games have come without Denuvo and now even Yakuza Kiwami removed it.
Ya talking unfounded Garage. Yakuza 0 still has Denuvo, even their bloody Tetris games have Denuvo. 2nd of all you sound like a tool bringing up Yakuza Kiwami because that game is 3 weeks away from release. SteamDB is not a reliable source for they can add Denuvo days before release at anytime. At this rate you Sound like a fanboy for sega. Sega uses Denuvo whenever it feels like it. Unlike Sega, Focus Interactive Studios NEVER uses DRM AT ALL. So if you’re looking for AA or AAA studio to fanboy over, then pick someone like Focus Home Interactive that never uses DRM. They only use steam as a distribution (downloader). Don’t Tell me about blasted Sega and their crappy business practices. Sonic Mania STILL HAVE DENUVO.
I don’t fanboy over anyone. I just pointed out how publisher who added denuvo to all their games seems to be taking it off as another who rarely added it now puts it there. How exactly am i a tool for using a game as an example also i never use SteamDB i use the steam store page. Also if you wanna fanboy over FHI then go ahead. I looked over their games and i saw none that i would enjoy.
I’m still all the Denuvo haters are all 100% filthy pirate scum.
But hey, just my opinion.
It’s never caused me any grief.
Seems the devs agree with me, so in the end your disagreement really holds no value here.
Yeah, sure thing man. The numbers have shown the exact opposite time and time again. There is a reason devs keep using the software. They’re paying a fee and still making more money afterwards.
I mean, I guess it’s a real shame to lose all those pirates but hey.
This kind of trash thinking is why PC games never get proper ports, it’s because everyone steals them so why bother?
You are the problem. You are the reason Denuvo exists. The more you fight it the worse it gets.
those that intend to pirate never look at the price.
Prices come down rather quickly. Your impatience doesn’t excuse theft.
You are full of it kido.
>The numbers have shown the exact opposite.
Show them then, or shut the f**k up for good this time.
>There is a reason devs keep using the software.
Yes, and it’s control over customers.
>They’re paying a fee and still making more money afterwards.
They can save that since they are so desperate and make even more money.
>a real shame to lose all those pirates.
You still can pirate them day 1.
>why PC games never get proper ports
Doesn’t have anything to do with piracy, bad ports are cheap and publisher are a bunch of cheap as*holes. also having more standards than console players and being vocal about it doesn’t mean the console version is sold or good.
Any time I post a link to actual facts and numbers the moderators delete it. So, you’ll have to burn a calorie and look it up yourself.
Your understanding of the bigger pictures around you are, in a word, baffling.
Don’t use the word “kido”. It makes you sound like an old man screaming antiquated dispositions at the youth.
The Disqus panel has some issues right now and we can’t approve any pending comments (whenever you use a link your comment needs to be manually approved, we don’t delete anything)
That’s good to know. Thanks.
>the moderators delete it.
Direct links needs approval, learn.
>you’ll have to burn a calorie and look it up yourself.
No, i’m fine. wasting brain cell chatting with you is enough.
>Your understanding of the bigger pictures around you are, in a word, baffling.
These are just words, random, meaning less words you just typed in your comments.
>Don’t use the word “kido”.
Sheep it is then.
i don’t like DRM myself but i’m not going to say piracy is non-existent threat. better games or not, DRM or not piracy is still a legit issue. if you say it was non-existent threat then NO one will pirate games that have no DRM at all.
It’s a non-existent threat in the sense that DRM doesn’t work. It only inconvenience the legit buyer. A fact which cannot be denied. Answer me this, when the game is cracked why is the DRM still there for years to come? who is the game being protected from after its been cracked 2 days before it’s release? This I’m very interesting in knowing. Seems to me that as usual, following the rules leaves you to Be the sucker.
DRM does work though. Not 100%, but it does work. That’s why they’re still doing it.
Try installing a Tages DRM game (2003) on a Windows 7 PC. It won’t work. You have to crack your retail copy of the game that isn’t available digitally anywhere to play the game you bought. Example: Robocop 2003. Reason? OS not supporting the DRM.
Try installing a Starforce DRM game (2005-6) on a Windows 7 PC. It won’t work. You have to crack your retail copy of the game that isn’t available digitally anywhere to play the game you bought. Example: Boiling Point: Road To Hell. Reason? OS not supporting the DRM.
(Offtopic: I have other Starforce games where I actually had to re-buy them on Steam to play them. Example: Chrome Specforce.)
Sure, DRM works… but it doesn’t allow me to use the games easily. I have to crack both games to make them work!
This is what shouldn’t happen in the first place.
Believe it or not, harsh DRM is the reason we’re getting PC ports at all these days. Remember the late 90’s and early 2000’s when devs stopped porting games to PC at all? It was due to piracy. Harsher DRM starting coming along and boom, more PC ports. It IS a problem and it hurts us as much as it does the devs.
Funny I seem to remember it was because PC’s were such a rapid state of flux(going from 100Mhz to 600Mhz cpu’s in the span of 2 years) and consoles had a flat platform base to develop from. Which lowered development costs.
Piracy wasn’t the problem, it was developers believing that consoles were the future. The last ~6 years have been the most profitable period for good developers since the mid-90’s, and it’s because PC’s have out paced consoles.
That makes no sense. a 500mhz gap pales in comparison to the deltas we have today, ranging from 2-32 cores, with gaps of nearly 2 ghz in some instances. It’s not about the hardware.
It’s about the money and it is always about the money, and the devs will spend money if people are paying up, which they weren’t on PC, and still in large numbers today, are not.
Meh, computer hardware has larger gulfs now than it did back then. Dual cores all the way up to 16 or more with frequencies ranging with deltas in the thousands. It’s not comparable. Here is an interesting article that highlights how the devs see it. How we see it is irrelevant, as we’re not making the games.
https://segmentnext.com/2018/01/18/ubisoft-said-95-pc-gaming-piracy-now-admits-superiority/
Nope, they just only recently realized that Steam has largest user base
You really think devs, publishers, and all their market research let that slip by them? Nah. Not a chance.
Sure they did, atleast some of them. Japanese companies started putting porting their games at 2014 when they realized how high user base PC actually has.
That’s garbage and Unproven. Because the games are still cracked and they are even being cracked before they are released and faster these days.
It doesn’t matter if you believe me, because the devs know the truth. Which is why they’re spending lots of money on this stuff.
Lived the time. I know what was up.
No, we start getting those PC ports way before Denuvo was a thing. the boom part started way before, Valkyria Chronicles (even sales suprised sega while the VC4 flopped) and MGS and tons of other japanese game which many of them still wont use it.
Stop fa*ting out words and call it facts.
I didn’t state Denovo. DRM.
Steam baked in DRM which had a HUGE impact on piracy. Origin, Uplay, all of these services have DRM wrappers which have all had an impact. People just don’t realize it this stuff is there (just like they don’t realize Denuvo is there until the internet tells them).
If you want pacts, Google PC+Piracy, maybe add the words trends, statistics to it. You won’t, because you prefer ignorance and excuses over actually researching these things, but the information is there. Companies do their research, which is why they don’t agree with you.
>I didn’t state Denovo
Topic is about denuvo.
>Steam baked in DRM which had a HUGE impact on piracy.
No, it wasn’t it’s DRM, it was cracked by every scene and p2p group out there, it was the service that people liked.
>Google PC+Piracy
Didn’t bring anything new. you can also Google sheep+wool. your point ?
>researching these things.
Googling some random shill article is not research.
>but the information is there.
No info but some opinion pieces. tons of good point against it tho.
>which is why they don’t agree with you.
Sheep ? or wool ?
Basically you’re saying you don’t know how to do actual researching. Looking up gaming blogs isn’t research. Look up something that was actual research and is published.
It’s obvious you didn’t actually try to educated yourself even with a half-baked Google search anyway.
>Basically you’re saying you don’t know how to do actual researching.
No, i’m just saying you are full of s**t and you don’t know what you are talking about.
>It’s obvious you didn’t actually try to educated yourself.
Acting like a sheep (you) is not education.
>you don’t know how to do actual researching.
Oh please, teach me senpai! oh no, nevermind, i know what i am talking about it is you that have a head in the butt problem.
“We’ve worked with 4A Games to ensure this will not affect your experience.”
Typical PR bullshit just to make a good impression for avarage joe and other lemings
Yeah they said absolutely nothing in that statement.
Glad they gave me a heads up about Denuvo. Removed it from my wishlist. It is my policy not to buy games that use it.
So after the game is cracked on Day 1 or 2 days before release like Hitman 2 & Just Cause 4, who exactly is the game being protected from at that point. Because all I see are games that STILL have Denuvo in them after they have been long cracked. I think you are smart enough to know that Pirates doesn’t care about Denuvo or DRM. They weren’t gonna buy it period, all they have is TIME. Therefore, stop talking nonsense.
@disqus_XahrVyDZU4:disqus: You’re just a clueless idiot, who can’t see the bigger picture (and you give likes to your own comments).
It is an Eastern European customer’s policy to protect my already not so thick wallet by not buying PC games with Denuvo.
Then you don’t see my money, deep silver. Even though I bought Mighty No. 9 twice. Ride to Hell: Retribution twice. Escape Dead Island. And so on. (Physical and digital.)
Pirates buy games, too. That’s your “people who pirate don’t buy anything” thought right out the window. That’s why I have over 700 on my account. Including Mega Man 11. One game that I bought when it got rid of Denuvo. And I’d buy The Quiet Man too, if it had no Denuvo.
Edit: “Just love the tears of those jobless pirates with no money lol.” Lmao. Denuvo-supporters generalizing as always.
Still not buying until the remove Denuvo.
Hope it’s cracked day one. Using Denuvo & ditching Steam – publisher deserves it.
Ive been hearing a lot about varrying issues plagueing the game like a crash right after the “Agreement” screen.
If i’m 100% honest that honestly sounds like a signature spot where a Denuvo hook would be placed and would crash if not done properly…
New iPhone 15 Pro Max leak says good things about camera block
