Nightdive Studios has released a brand new gameplay video for System Shock Remake, showcasing its final art. The remake looks absolutely gorgeous in this latest gameplay video and we are pretty sure that all System Shock fans will love it.
Unfortunately, it appears that the game won’t have the retro-pixely option that its Unity demo featured. The game will be using Unreal Engine 4 and from the looks of it, the developers have nailed its atmosphere and visuals.
As we’ve already stated, System Shock will be a proper remake/remaster of the first System Shock game. Instead of remaking and altering its gameplay mechanics, Nightdive Studios will offer players what they’ve always wanted; a high quality game that adheres closely to the vision of the original System Shock.
In its next gameplay video, Nightdive Studios will showcase the game’s combat mechanics. Until then though, you can enjoy the following video!

Not really if you look at some footage they got from the second level its identical to the original, it even looks like a maze like the original did.
This looks so good! I can’t wait for this and System Shock 3 to come out.
i would
Hope they add a VR option. Game is begging for it since they kept such basic geometry.
It’s a remake of the original classic.
Gorgeous! Especially the smoke effects, impressively implemented!
damn i’m so disappointed with this game now XD
It looks good, but I’m concerned it’s *too* much like the original. This first level’s layout seems identical to the original, which was confusing and unintuitive. It would be a good idea to change the layout to something less labyrinthine.
This has got to be a new all-time low, complaining about the level design in a Looking Glass game.
If you want a more, uh… ‘streamlined’ experience, there are plenty of modern games for you to choose.
I’d say this assessment is accurate: https://youtu.be/s7DVOw1lIcM?t=299. Seems like a good chance to fix something the original programmers probably should have done the first time around.
Yeah, and this is kinda controversial. Devs were restricted by the hardware limitations back then. I suppose levels would be less blocky if it weren’t the case, but by how much? Hard to tell.
Completely disagree, theirs a reason why this is called a remake. Why would you change something that worked so well in the past? Just because you dont like the layout? Please!!!
Yeah, the old map layout hasn’t really stood the test of time. So counter-intuitive and weird. It’s what the fans want, though.
A little less bloom? It’s like acid straight to your eyes
I like this but visuals could be a bit less shiny. Also, blocky and labyrinthine levels look a tad odd with new graphics, because they HAD to look like that back then due to technical limitations. Maybe reimagining some shapes would be a better idea.
All this hooplah over changing from Unity and in the end the Unity version had more lighting clarity. Yea, the environment is supposed to be atmospheric and dark, but being able to actually see the artwork would be nice.

Looks mighty good!
But, recreating environments is the easy part these days in modern engines. Getting the gameplay right is the real challenge in remakes! Let’s hope they do not disappoint there…
Like they said its a remake, and if they changed it to much, the fans would roast them alive. Best to not poke the bear.
This look just fantastic, I’m superhyped for this one!
