Blood Remaster-4

Blood Remaster has been officially announced, will support both DirectX and Vulkan, first screenshots

Atari has announced that Nightdive Studios will revamp the classic Atari-owned adventure-horror PC title Blood. Originally developed by Monolith Productions and released in 1997, Blood remains a fan-favorite and will receive enhancements to improve the action-packed, horrifying game experience.

The team working on the game at Nightdive Studios includes lead engine developer Samuel “Kaiser” Villarreal, whose previous work includes The Original Strife, Turok, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil and, most recently, Forsaken Remastered. Additionally, developers Edward Richardson, James Haley, and producer Daniel Grayshon will be working on the project.

Regarding the upgrading effort, Daniel said:

“Blood stood up extremely well over time and we are taking care to preserve all the qualities that made the game so special. It really only needs minor updates to provide a better user experience for contemporary audiences. By using some of the functions of Nightdive’s KEX engine, we’ll be able to provide compatibility with today’s video standards, with DirectX and Vulkan support.

Similarly, we’ll provide compatibility with the current audio standards. We’ll add support for modern networks, Steamworks, and GOG Galaxy to bring this original game to more players. As part of this, we will preserve the accuracy of the game behavior. While these upgrades are relatively minor, we are confident that they will provide fans with a better, current generation gameplay experience.”

Todd Shallbetter, COO of Atari, added:

“We are thrilled to work with the fine team at Nightdive Studios to bring the cult classic Blood back to gamers. Blood is a grisly good time, and there’s no better team out there than Nightdive to ensure that the game will find new fans.”

Originally released in 1997, Blood is a First-Person Shooter that helped redefine the genre and first introduced many elements now accepted as commonplace. In Blood, players jump into the boots of undead gunslinger Caleb as he seeks revenge against the dark god Chernobog. Caleb’s arsenal features a mix of standard and occult weaponry, which he uses to devastating and gore-filled, effect. In the game, players visit a terrifying world populated by hordes of bloodthirsty fiends including cultists, gargoyles, zombies, hellhounds, and an unholy host of other terrors.

Enjoy!

      1. as someone who is not really into java and i got sick and tired of my pc telling “UPDATE JAVA” the game worked fine with java.

      1. I know, but they are scattered around, and some sites have closed down, it would be nice to have a steam mod support.

    1. +1 Awesome game, but the engine is really not modern hardware/OS’s friendly, i want it too cause i missed it when it came

    1. The sequel was fairly ok for the times. It wasn’t the best game, and it wasn’t the worst game. It was just ok.

I’d kill for a third game in the series though.

    1. You’ re right, but GOG gives you back the difference from currency conversion (in my case $ -> €) in wallet credit (on most games I believe).

    1. Atari own the IP for many years now.
It sux bcoz at one point there was a proper modern remake in the works, which got canned bcoz Atari didn’t want it! 🙁

  1. Um…. didn’t “Nightdive Studios”, damn near deep-six the System Shock remake they were working on? I think they have a couple other “remakes” in the works too.

Are they really up to the task of taking on another one at this point?

  2. It’s not that difficult…
I have it perfectly working on both Windows 7 and Linux…perfectly rendered, with 3D sound, and proper mouse aiming!

  3. This is AWESOME! Wish they would do some graphical and higher quality sounds enhancements to it…for music should stay as the original MIDI version.
One of my favorite FPS of all time! They don’t make games like this anymore! I have BLOOD v1.21 installed on my PC, and it works great …and also has 3D sound and mouse aiming set up correctly!

  4. Cause your are indian, I have a question: how much as Steam stopped Indians from pirating games? I’m brazillian and due to steam most PC gamers stopped pirating and now buy original games.

    1. hahaha, same here, but I have 275 games. I also only buy games during sales except a time of my life when I had a lot of time and money to waste. Thanks for the answer.

  5. I thought the source code was lost, how did they produce this? The BloodGDX guy has been reverse-engineering for years to finally get a working sourceport and now this suddenly pops into existence.
