Here is your first look at 3D Realms’ upcoming FPS that is powered by the Quake Engine

3D Realms has released a GIF, showing for the first time its upcoming first-person shooter that will be powered by the Quake Engine. Unfortunately we don’t have enough information about this game, other than it will be published by 1C Entertainment.

From the looks of it, this game will feature portals similar to those of PREY. The level also appears to be on par with what players would expect from a new FPS that is powered by the classic Quake Engine.

We can also say that the game will feature melee combat as in the GIF the player has equipped a blade.

1C Entertainment and 3D Realms aim to release this new old-school first-person shooter in 2019.

Kudos to our reader ‘SpaceKnotzy’ for sharing the GIF.

  1. This l;literally looks like the total original unpublisheed Prey. Just with the project name probably changed. Can they do that? Hyped.

  2. Looks cool but I don’t see the point in literally using the original Quake engine. They could just use assets of similar polycount and a similar lighting system (baked lighting, vertex lighting for dynamic lights etc), render it all forward for great performance and 8x anti-aliasing. Basically just make a game like you have to ship on early 2000s hardware. Why go back to lower color space (what is this, 16 bit?) and genuine low res textures? Do people really miss that? Might as well limit the renderer to 1024×768 or even lower. Do people want that? I don’t. I like 1080p and having proper colors and high res textures in my games and I think it wouldn’t hurt the aesthetic one bit to include those things.
Not saying they should change their project, just that I’d do it differently.

  3. I’m definitely getting Prey vibes… I’m intrigued. Looks pretty old school too which I dig. Still hoping for the day they or someone else can get the rights of OG Prey and continue expanding that world under a different name.
