Squadron 42 Mark Hamill

Squadron 42 Citizen Con trailer shows Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Liam Cunningham and more

Cloud Imperium has released a brand new trailer for Squadron 42; the single-player mode of Star Citizen. This new trailer showcases some of the top actors that will be featured in it like Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson and more.

This trailer also gives us a glimpse at the main enemies that players will fight in Squadron 42. Squadron 42, like Star Citizen, will be powered by the Lumberyard Engine and while it looks amazing, it’s not as impressive as it was when the game was first showcased. It looks awesome, don’t get me wrong but take for example a look at Gillian Anderson at 2:11. She looks so flat, fake and… plastic?

Now I know I’m nit-picking here and that Cloud Imperium has a lot of time in order to further improve things; again Squadron 42 looks, for the most part, incredible. I mean, look at 2:28. Now that scene looks impressive. So yeah, it appears that right now there are some inconsistencies when it comes to its lighting system.

Furthermore, it appears that some character models, like Mark Hamill’s 3D model, have been noticeably upgraded.

Cloud Imperium stated that it will release a roadmap in December so we’re really looking forward to it. Until then, enjoy the following trailer!

    1. It looks good but it runs… well just see 4K gameplays on 2080ti for yourself. 8fps dips, 30fps on average.

        1. 2080ti frequently runs games faster in 4K than 980ti in 1080p, so it’s basically extremely demanding game. And BTW. are you convicted goat raper(wether it be big or it be small)? You should stop hurting animals, that’s sick thing to do 😛

      1. That is Star Citizen, which is bound by server performance.

They just released 3.3 for testing which has Object Container Streaming, which lowers strain on the server, people are reporting anywhere from 50 to 100% improvement in framerate.

If you ran SC offline using a workaround, 2080Ti would be getting close to 60 fps.

      2. Backend bottleneck. If you’re looking at the Multiplayer videos, you’ll see whatever graphic card you have you’ll be close to 30fps because of current network state. Single player is different and will not suffer from this fate, i hope.

  1. It really looks very good! True that at 2:11 that woman needs some a little more work but all the others are so well made. Scenes look breathtaking. When it’s time to b*tch i’m here but when it’s time to say Good Job i’m also here.

    Good job, nice trailer RSI.

      1. If you want more words you have to wait at least 10 years.
Until then you can buy my concept art ship for 10000 $ for supporting my work….. ..

  2. Ah man, I guess I missed it live when I had to call it a night. Cant wait to watch this soon, been waiting years for a proper trailer. SQ42 is easily the most exciting part of the overall project for me and I think the industry is desperately in need of a a new revolutionary single player game. Being a PC exclusive will help it go a long way. Hopefully will be the next Half-Life or something.

    1. Call me skeptical, the game will be more like Crysis than Half-life, thanks to advanced system specs that 75% of gaming audience doesn’t have. And we all know how the Crysis franchise ended up right (hint: multiplat)

      1. We don’t know how well the game will perform once it’s near completion. As far as I’m aware, the the main reason why Crysis was so demanding had a lot to do with how unoptimised it was. The same problems the Witcher games had. Crysis was and continues to be a visually stunning game, especially compared to other games around its time. But having to wait a decade to run the game on max settings on modern mid range PCs simply tells me that the game wasn’t properly coded. Especially when you see how rough the game can look even on medium settings.

If CIG know what they’re doing they probably won’t have that same issue. SC currently seems to be running on most modest rigs, given the scale and fidelity they’ve accomplished so far. And with optimisation now becoming a thing I have hope that it won’t turn out to be the next Crysis in that sense.

We gotta remember that the way CIG is handling their business isn’t like Crytek. And they do seem to have long term plans on how they’ll earn more revenue once they stop selling in-game content. If their method ends up becoming successful and ethical then I don’t see much reason why they would need to go multiplatform. But I don’t oppose the idea either if they wanna ensure financial security. However that would go against why most people funded the project, so there’s that. Not an easy decision to make.

  3. Looks like the most amazing thing in gaming. Yeah it doesnt have next gen graphics but the game is gigantic.

        1. You’re going to deny this but you’re still in the closet. Enjoy living in denial and don’t bother replying because you’re blocked.

  4. Really looking forward to Squadron 42. If it’s as good as I hope then it will be the first game in 6 years that I will pay full price for.
