It appears that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is selling well on the PC platform. According to Steam’s statistics, its highest concurrent player number has already surpassed the one for Origins, hinting at a better overall launch.
Going into slightly more details, the all-time peak number of concurrent players for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is currently 61,984 whereas the all-time peak number of concurrent players for Assassin’s Creed Origins was 41,541. In other words, we are looking at a 51% increase in concurrent players.
Of course these numbers are not 100% representative of the Steam sales, however they do show a better overall launch than the one for Origins. According to Steamspy, Origins has sold between 1-2 million copies on Steam, whereas Odyssey is currently around 200-500K sold copies (do note that Steamspy’s numbers are delayed by two-three days so the real sales for Odyssey are obviously higher).
But anyway, it appears that the Steam launch of Odyssey was better than the one for Origins and it remains to be seen whether Ubisoft will address some of the issues that PC gamers have with Odyssey, and whether the game will be able to surpass Origins’ sales.
As we’ve already stated, Ubisoft is currently working on patch 1.03 for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that will feature some PC-specific fixes/tweaks. The rainy weather during the Benchmark session will be fixed in version 1.03 and Ubisoft will also fix the VRAM meter bug that sometimes does not update in real-time, as well as the “Dialogue with Barnabas” bug.

AC have open world historical locations, such as Victorian London, French Revolution Paris, Ancient Egypt/Greece, Renaissance Venezia etc. You explore them freely in third person action mode. That’s how unique AC are. No other games like that.

Let me put it this way:
Arkham games, same series, same Hero, sorta same sotry and world. But they are different. you don’t have to like these game, specially the combat, many people hate this more casual rhythmic combat than a more skilled base combat we seen in other games but that’s not the point.
AA had a really good level design, in AC map got bigger and the design got more complicated and hold itself up for most parts, in AK map got even bigger but the design stayed behind, suddenly less variety for things to do even tho they added the freaking Batmobile.
All side quests became grindy, same looking stuff to do. Do this thing, follow this thing, now do the exact same thing 4 times more in order to progress to the next boss. and the bosses were awful, fight them like normal enemies with fist or batmobile. no variety in them or how to fight them like (Mr freeze etc in last game).
See ? AA and AC were different, same world, same character but very different games, until AK came out, and it was an inferior game to those two. DarkSouls, again, they look the same at first glance, but the great level design in those make players discover something new all of the time they are playing.
Same can not be said for Assassin’s Creed series or most Ubisoft games AKA ubisoft formula (and many of the new open world games). First AC game was looked promising at first (grab every building and climb it) then it released and everyone saw the awful design of the game. do this 3 missions in order to progress to the next section/sets of missions etc… in 2 they added more stuff and made it less grindy but still same structure, game improved by alot even tho the design wasn’t that good (well back then the formula wasn’t used that much and was new). then the series start to fall again, because the same formula repeated itself again and again and each time it got more grindy to the point that in Origin and worst in the new one, that they slowed the progression so much that you have to grind much more or pay for booster to play in the normal speed it used to be.
New AC game is like the last Arkham game but 10 times the grind. same bad design, same exact missions over and over to be able to progress to the next section/story part/leveling gear to be able to do so etc.
Same can not be said against Doom. Doom 2 and 3 were different games, for good or worst, but Doom 2016 improved, fast action game with ok design, Eternal might just be like that or worst, who knows, that’s the beauty of it. and that comes from someone who hates Doom, all of them but not because they are bad or anything, it’s a personal taste.
There is a reason i and many others s**t on Ubisoft games, even tho they don’t use the same hero and worlds but they are the exact game as their previous entry. little has changed since 2 if any, level design is still the same, missions are the same and it’s even more grindy than ever. they (Ubisoft games) are basically virtual tours.

Well on the rpg part things are not doing well. Fallout 4 was a gindfest shooter, bioware dropped the ball with andromeda, now they are making anthem, osbidian made south park, no one cared about elex, kingdom come was a outsider. Rpgs are not looking well. As for open world id argue that ubisoft is doing decent open world games, so much that everyone else copies them and every open world game that comes out is identical.
Doesn’t surprise me at all it’s very good, the new choices and text threads are really awesome as well as the story telling. To me so far it’s easily as good as the Witcher 3 from what I have played.

Unoptimized games doing really well on PC lately, PubG,Ark,Monster Hunter and this.
I have seen 4K gameplay (on bang4buckPC gamer YT channel) with 65-80 fps on 2080ti with just two settings adjusted so game runs similar to Origins and looks better at the same time (odyssey world is not so empty compared to Egypt in Origins, there’d.more vegetation, trees). CPU usage looks good (it’s not like game use just one or two cores like Ubisoft games few years ago) so game looks optimized, but it’s very demanding for sure because it require fast and new i7 to run at locked 60fps (but it should be not surprising considering it’s scale, and 300 soldier battles).
Oh god, a 1,200$ card can run the latest AC game 60fps if you turn down some options at 4k, how is that even possible ? /s

Yeah, AC3 (2012) had ~200+ NPCs on the screen. Guess what ? AC:U with in some cases 5k NPCs on the screen in a more complex and detailed map, a game far superior looking to these two new AC games. Scale doesn’t mean s**t when most of it is empty or 20 NPCs glitching around.
As you can see in DSOG performance analysis fps is not dipping in CPU limited locations as much as in Origins, and game with slight details reduction looks still better than previous game. 4K and 65-85 fps is very good result even considering 2080ti. AC unity has complex map? Unity has detailed indoor areas but city dont look that impressive. Mostly buildings on the screen with very simple geometry and ULTRA low textures, and baked GI and lighting. Origins and Odyssey feature dynamic time settings, varied terrain, wide open grassy areas with trees (with dynamic shadows), volumetic clouds. Also it’s different to show large crowd of characters on the screen that basically stand there, and it’s something different to basically fight with 300 soldiers at once when PC have to calculate everything.

I played it for 3 hours and exactly like origins got me depressed after 3 hours. i finished origins with cheat engine’s 10 times multiplier hackspeed. worst experience of my gaming life. haven’t seen him post a lot but odyssey is just a reskin with shet ton of grinding so he’s right on this. personally, i can’t do it, i’m mentally and physically not capable of playing another ubisoft game. if i play one more game like new AC games or ghost recon wildlands i will go insane or suicidal.

Looking at how many peple say “rip ac” about this game i kinda disagree with that one.
I’m not some big AC fan for myself, but I have noticed on various forums basically the vast majority of people who really played that game really liked it. Some people even say it’s the best AC game to date, and some even compared it’s RPG elements and gameplay aspects with “the witcher 3”. Yes few people complained about performance, but even these people wrote they couldnt stop playing this game and opinions like that really tells me something. With very good reviews on top of that it’s clear to me, ubisoft made at least good game, while people here act like if it would be the worst AC game they have ever made. Right now the only people who complain about that game are basically people who never played it. Same can be said against Origins and Odyssey, Tons of simple empty lands and sometimes with horrible textures, Unity has really good texture quality in most places so as the new ones.

All of them are using baked GI (Guess only Crysis 3 using realtime GI) but since Syndicate there is mixture of baked and dynamic light so they could add night/day cycle to the game again.

These things you named don’t make any sense. like saying Unity has some building with 1:1 scale to the real world and the geometry detail on these building alone is more complex than a bunch of copy/paste bushes etc… or Unity uses MSAA a superior AA solution to this muddy looking TAA they use in new games. it also have volumetric fog dynamic weather, and dynamic foliage, oh sorry it’s not volumetric clouds. what a huge loss.

These two details that Bank4buck gamer tweaked arnt even noticeable and like I have said even with his tweaks game looks still amazing, and runs 65-80fps (just look at his YT gameplay from that game). Odyssey have additional higher settings (ultra high settings, not just very high settings) and that’s the problem. Bank4buck gamer also have Origins gameplay but with everything maxed out and he has dips at 55 fps on 2080ti, so even origins need a little tweaks if someone want rock solid 60fps at all costs. Some games with totally maxed out details are extremely demanding but as long as gamers can tweak settings and still get good graphics and much better performance then I can easily turn down some settings even on my 1080ti. In metro 2033 advanced DOF makes literally no difference yet you can see 50% performance decrease. I bet you would not even noticed bank4buck gamer manually adjusted two settings in his gameplay, it’s only evident because he mentioned what he done, but of course you need something to complain about. I say 65-80fps with quality like that is very good result, and especially if you consider other demanding games like wildlands and QB, Ark, deus ex run on that GPU. QB 35-40fps gameplay, deus ex 40 fps dips, wildlands 40fps dips. Odyssey performance doesnt look that bad compared to these games. Even with his settings game looks amazing and with HDR, lighting in this game looks extremely realistic.
If game has REAL problems I will talk about them, but unlike you I can also see positive things in games. You blame developers even for your vram issues, because you are using settings on your 4GB (if it’s 970, than it’s 3.5 card) GPU reserved for 6 and sometimes 8 GB vram GPU’s and then you cry game has memory problems. That memory leak in forza games that you talked about is non existent on my PC, vram stays the same, and system ram also, but it’s only because I’m not trying to play new games with maxed out settings on very old GPU. Maybe if will stop being so negative person and start concentrating on positive aspects you will become rich someday and then you will afford decent GPU. You dont need to “brute force” your memory leaks problems, but if game use nearly 6GB vram and you play that game on your 4 GB card than obviously you should expect problems. If these forza games would have memory leaks problems (as you suggest) vram usage would very quickly fill up whole 11 GB VRAM, but no, VRAM stays the same no matter how many hours I will play. You dont need to buy 1080ti if you cant afford it, because you can also replace your 970 with 1060 6GB for example (or RX 580 with 8GB vram will be even better choice IMO), and you will see not only forza games (I remember your complains about memory leaks in other games as well, for example rise of the tomb raider) will run without memory leaks problems. You see these memory leaks problems now just because your GPU run out of VRAM, so game is using your system RAM in hybrid way, and that’s causing your memory leak problems. 970 is even more problematic, because it can only use 3.5GB effectively, but games will see 4GB and fill that last (not working properly) 500MB, and that’s not helping you either.

Not that much, it’s the usual Ubisoft thingy, go fast then stop at around 600k (except Siege). Deus Ex mankind Divided reached 52k (10k less but still) really fast, then it went downhill from there and killed the franchise.
One thing i have noticed is games that have mainstream settings sell, eg far cry 5, or game set in america in general. Games that have unusual settings eg sleeping dogs dont sell.
So maybe this has to do with the fact that this game has a mainstream setting.

I have posted my gaming platforms pictures just to show you I’m not some casual gamer (I have delated my comment now because I dont need to brag about my wealth like you suggest), I’m PC enthusiast since 3dfx times and I always buy high end GPU (causal gamers will just buy some cheap PC or play on console alone), but I also play on other platforms as well. It’s not like I’m console enthusiast, but I still like to play on them from time to time because unlike you I dont want to miss some really amazing games and exclusive content. You didnt answered my first question. If you are poor, it’s not because you are smart, but just the opposite obviously (I hope you realized that fact by now). When it comes to my language skills, belive or not but I can understand everything what you say perfectly, but the problem is I have never learned english grammar and of course I can make some (probably funny) mistakes because of that. If I would want to learn english grammar, it would be not too long before I would start speaking english fluently. But still I bet you understood everything what I wrote to you, and you just looked for some stupid excuses to just say something. I spoke to one (female becase unlike you I’m not a gay) english teacher lately and I she told me my english skills are above average and she could understand everything without problems. That’s impressive for someone who basically never learned how to use english grammar.
But currently in my country I dont need other languages than my native language in order to live rich and happy life. I also have no reason to go abroad and for example live in England (or in other countries where english is main language). I also have no reason to spend my time perfecting my current english skills just to be perfectly understood by some jerks like you. Smart people dont waste time for something they dont need to use in their life.

If you good at something, you will earn GOOD money no matter where you live.
