First PC gameplay footage released for DOOM Eternal

As promised, id Software and Bethesda has revealed at QuakeCon 2018 the first gameplay footage for DOOM Eternal. Bethesda presented three gameplay videos, showing lots of gameplay action. What’s really cool here is that in the second video id Software also showcased the PC version, played with mouse and keyboard. As such, we strongly suggest checking out the videos, especially if you are fans of the series.

Developed by id Software, DOOM Eternal promises to bring the ultimate combination of speed and power with the next leap in push-forward, first-person combat.

As the DOOM Slayer, players will return to take theirr vengeance against the forces of Hell. Set to an all-new pulse pounding soundtrack composed by Mick Gordon, players will fight across dimensions as they slay new and classic demons with powerful new weapons and abilities.

Unfortunately Bethesda did not reveal any release date window, so we are most likely looking at a 2019 (or even a 2020 release).

The first it features the first two gameplay videos and the second is the third gameplay video. We’ll update the story with the official ones as soon as they become available!

Here is the official gameplay video!

      1. What you mean to tell me you dont prefer your to take your chances with them “innovating” and changing the game to be more like a Hollywood scripted in interactive “realistic” movie?

LOL. Its like capcom that said recently “sometimes we made games to get high scores from journalists instead of good sales.” I facepalm when i read that interview.

          1. When was the last time devs made a game they wanted instead of making a dumb down trash with microtrasactions?

        1. I haven’t played the original DOOM, but i don’t think any game will replace its original in everything, actually, in anything, and nostalgia comes also in play, so well…Besides i’ve recently replayed DOOM 3 and the 2016 one is honestly better in every regard. DOOM 2016 was a really good game, and that’s weird seeing how the trend has been going these last 10 years. Eternal just looks like an expansion of the latest DOOM so that’s quite nice.

          1. Haven’t and probably won’t these kind of FPS aren’t really my style, and playing something that ancient doesn’t make me like it more…Actually the opposite.

          2. Are we sure they’re gonna charge 60$/€ for it? Anyway you don’t need to pay it that much necessarily, cd keys shops will have it for something like 40, and if it costs less than 60…Even less.

          3. Well i think you’re exaggerating a bit.
1 Not new engine, it’s basically a revision of the old, with the same textures.]
2 Not completely different environments, that’s basically a pretty bigger hell from the last DOOM, with yes, slightly different environments.
3 Not at all completely, they’re basically a new version of the last doom’s
4 Seems pretty much the same animations to me.
            5 No, just no.
            6 You’re right here.

        2. “it was nowhere near the original DOOM from 1993. ”

I cant play the original doom from 1994 without mods its too mundane

“DOOM Eternal just seems repetitive and boring.”

Wasnt the one in 1994 repetitive?.

    1. It’s DOOM, what do you want exactly? There’s nothing wrong with the first one (2016) so why break it? You just build on what you had. There WERE some things different than 2016 (incoming invader?), so your point is moot anyway.

  1. The first game blew me away it was above and beyond other fps at the time, this one doesnt look like a revolution, but it doesnt have to be, all they have to do is improve on the last game. So they game is doom 2 now? Even the enemies faces look like they came out of doom 2. The shotgun grappling hook will be better if you can draw enemies to you, then again thats what you would think thats what would anyone thinks, but maybe pulling you in front of the enemies is better from a gameplay standpoint. I truly hate when they change the way weapons look and sound, the shotgun looks nothing like the old one. They changed it too much. Kinda like machine games did with thew weapons in wolf 2. So the game has lives now? Also the map is nonlinear like doom megawads and wall climbing…so you saying the game is metroid now? Id dig that, more content. Overall its more doom with new stuff and thats great but that fcking glitchmetal music. BOOO do heavey metal instead you are not skrilex and its a good thing that he is dead.

  2. i love the environments, and it looks like they are avoiding locking you in arenas over and over, so that’s a plus. i also love the sliding mechanics. the chunks of flesh flying off the demons is pretty satisfying.

but i’m not really sure why they drastically changed some of the demon designs. they’re pretty bland when compared to their 2016 counterparts, specifically the mancubus. kind of a bummer, as i really loved the style of the first game.

really wish they would have shown some more weapons too.

idk, i’m not super excited about this yet, but i’m sure things will improve in the next year or so. the first gameplay trailer of doom 2016 was pretty different from the final product.

EDIT: i just saw the second video upload. that was a much better demo, and i’m loving the weapons. i’m going to miss my overpowered seige gauss cannon though lol.

    1. “. they’re pretty bland when compared to their 2016 counterparts”

Funny i think the opposite, they were bland dark eyed demons in the first game, now they got actual faces.

      1. i think the soldiers are a definite improvement, but the baron of hell was colorful and defined in 2016, and now it’s a charred mess with some flame effects. the mancubus underwent the same transformation, which results in a boring looking fleshy blob.

i think the lack of the saturated colors from the first game is what i’m disappointed by. from a practical standpoint, it allowed the player to easily define enemies while rushing around, and from a visual standpoint it just appealed to me more.

          1. the thumbnail of the second video shows a baron.

but yea, zombies are infinitely better.

  3. Anyone else think this looks slower and less punchy? I’m not sure what, but something just seems to be missing this time around.
I dunno. I loved the original, not sure if I’m feeling this one.

      1. The video you linked is being played on PC with kb/m, the other one is on a console with gamepad. Huge difference.

        1. I’m interested in that game as well. Would have been cool to have an option for modern or classic graphics on that game, but still looks awesome.

          1. it’ll put you in a cyberpunk mood, right now i’m thirsty for blade runner/cyberpunk games as well as a quality wild west game.

        2. doesnt that have like 2 levels at this point? If you liked ion maiden play AMC TC, some of the same devs made it,

          1. it’s in early access but far superior to modern shooters out there. thanks for suggesting these games, i’ve been playing project brutality and i really liked it a lot. i’ll give this one a try as well.

          2. btw, if you haven’t played alienvspredator 2 play it now, and start with marine campaign.

          1. Not sure about cooldown, probably since it’s an ability. The dash in DOOM VFR was nice, even better when they added locomotion (teleporting sucks).

  4. What is cool is to have to install another launcher from a store who doesnt have local currencies, reviews, refunds, workshop support and a Hub where I can go to ask for help if the game crashes.
But we already have dozens of launchers right? What if every big AAA developer does their own launcher? That would be like 30 launchers which need to keep updating every week, thats cool!!
Origin wasnt that bad because you can find non E.A. games there but now this is becoming ridiculous.
Dont worry, this is my last post on a Bethesda game, added to my black list of not checking news of this companies along with Squenix, E.A. and ASW.

    1. there’s a russian dude on youtube, his channel’s name is random madness watch his review, he reviews gore in different video games.

      1. no but he gives you a good perspective of what defines a good gore mechanic, the new gore system is inferior in every way other than the new feature which is chunks of meat getting torn apart from bigger enemies, don’t forget that bethesda and triple A companies are business companies and one of the most important things for game series is that sequels shouldn’t be completely superior to previous title because it would take away their sales (who would get the older games if new ones were completely superior), ubisoft, bethesda, rockstar and ever big triple a publisher do this.
doom 2016 had better gore detail and variation, if you look carefully you’ll notice that chunks of meat (which look like red frozen cream) disappear as soon as they hit the floor. other than animated kills, there’s only one gore variation and that’s exploding and then disappearing immediately.

  5. the aesthetic reminded me of ion maiden, now i want to beat it again. that game never failed to give me erection.

      1. yes and weapons are kind of disappointing (lacking is a better word since current weapons are fun to use) but i hope final version is better

    1. I was in line at the supermarket and some old lady walks up to me and says “DOOM ETERNAL LOOKS LIKE SH## YOU CO##SUCKA!” so I roundhouse kicked that old bag into a pile of soda cans.

      1. Hahahaha LOL 🙂 that is beautiful man, I think you deserve post of the year m/.

The visuals of your post are awesome 🙂

  6. If they made it so you gain speed over time (not instant acceleration but if you keep moving in the same direction for a while) I would be happy with the movement system. All the special moves definitely make it interesting enough, it just needs to be a little faster.

  7. The gameplay looks like a proper FPS game. But If the campaign length is only 10-15 hours, i’ll still be really disappointed.

  8. Explain yourself better because i can’t really see what you mean. Weapons feel garbage how? No mods? Who cares, not every game need mods, what melee issues are you talking about? You’ve played the game extensively? Why? You said it’s a disappointment and a mediocre to average game, why play it extensively (granted it’s true) when you don’t like it?

  9. Very much looking forward to this game.

For anyone that doesn’t already have it Doom 2016 is on sale on Steam for $10 and Doom 3 for $1.24 or Doom 3 BFG for $8. Doom 3 is and oldie but it’s still a hell of a lot of fun.

  10. You said you couldn’t see a different from ROTR to Shadow of TR too. I think you’re just not seeing the differences well enough. Plus these are just Youtube compressed videos. Whatever the case, a new engine is a new engine. They had to rebuild a lot from scratch.

Hell is just one environment in Doom, the other locations look drastically different and interesting. Did you see the Cathedral section at all?

Guns aren’t just texture work, the gun models are reworked completely. There is not one gun here that uses the same model. Sure it’s the same shotgun and assault rifle, but the models are totally different. That’s like saying ak47 looks just like the carbine.

I can tell there are completely different animations. To begin with, enemies have 3 stages of destruction that are all animated, the way Doomguy interacts with things are updated, the way glory kills are done are updated, not to mention completely new glory kill animations. Did you see the Pain Elemental eating the rocket or the zombie’s head being crushed in or the Pain elemental’s eye being popped out?

There is not one enemy in Doom Eternal that looks the same as Doom 2016. The imp has spikes now, probably the one enemy type that looks pretty similar to nuDoom, but the mancubus and all other enemies look like they’re from classic Doom instead of nuDoom.

    1. Because there aren’t, you’re imagining things. It’s not a new engine it’s the same engine but a newer version of it, so no they haven’t rebuilt anything from scratch.

I just looked at the cathedral section, that part seems new, but the style looks pretty much the same. It’s just a new level. They haven’t redone anything from scratch, they made new levels and remodelled some of the weapons, besides “updated” and “completely new” or “completely different” are VERY different things. I’d agree if you used the term “updated”, but you didn’t in the original post, that’s why i replied.
Man, again, those are nothing “completely different”, those are some additions, the pain elemental eating the rocket is one simple animation and mechanic, it’s not like they have to remake the entire game for it.

They don’t look 100% the same but 90%, most of the enemies have just been remodelled a bit, nothing major as i was saying, it’s not a game made from scratch, and if you really think so, i don’t know what to tell you.

      1. Man you didn’t get my point, i’m not at all complaining, i’m fine with the game as it is, i’m just saying it’s not that new game you were talking about, it’s basically an expansion with upgraded contents, nothing made feom scratch, just this. I’m probably going to buy it no matter the platform.

        1. Well 10-15 years ago expansions were all like that, actually new content for half or even less, the price of the original game, besides, as i already said, i didn’t expect anything more than this, actually they did more than what i expected, but this is surely no completely new game, that’s all i’m saying, and if they price it at 60€ i think they’re exaggerating a bit, because that’s not a 60€ content, but then again, nowadays what is…

          1. I’m talking about when DLCs didn’t even exist, and you had to buy a new CD for the expansion, Starcraft, Warcraft, TES 3 Morrowind, all had that, and you paid them maybe 20€.

          2. It’s not like i disagree, although i don’t think a friend wouldn’t recognize you playing DOOM when watching you playing Eternal.
Yeah expansions and DLCs are basically the same thing but i meant to refer to when games had expansions and not DLCs, meaning, a while ago.
Besides the game was announced at E3 this year, but for all we know it might come out next year after E3 or maybe just before, someone even says it could be 2020, so well it won’t be that short time after all…

  11. Of all the issues you stated, only glory kills is a valid criticism. And guess what, this looks like it rectified that. They weren’t dropping any extra amount of health / armor / ammo after glory kills here.

The locked arenas are just a nitpick. The arenas are still so large you never felt trapped in. Plus it’s just a mechanic put in so you don’t exploit by popping out of a doorway and shooting and going back and repeating. That would look a little dated for 2018.

The number of enemies on screen was a limitation of the engine, but the balancing was done around it.. Also since Doom Eternal uses a new engine, they said it should have twice the amount of monsters now..

“Same disappointment as the first reboot”, “I’ve played the game extensively”… Ahem…. So did you like it or just played through the game extensively hating it?

  12. “garbage pickups that are worthess due to pinata enemies,”

Dude the first game had worthless pickups.

“but it’s just mediocre to average really.

compared to any other fps out there its godly.

  13. This isn’t with mouse and kb. If it were there wouldn’t be a mousewheel and the movement wouldn’t obviously be controller.

  14. I’m even more disappointed in this game than I was in the previous one. The previous one ended up okay but from this footage, making the Doom slayer feel powerful just equates to making the game easy af. Time literally stops at every opportunity in these videos. You can dodge and float in mid air and just pause time. Every time he stands still with his back facing enemies, for a fact, he isn’t even getting attacked.

Once again every time they pretend they are trying to make this OG, they go in the opposite direction. On Nightmare and/or in Ultimate Doom if you stood still, you were dead. You had to move all the time and be smart about it.

  15. Ok that’s totally BS, the sawed off shotgun is probably the weapon i used less, i’m not sure we’re talking about the same game. So yeah you don’t know sh**
