Trails of Cold Steel 2 – Patch 1.2 adds 120fps & 240fps options, introduces experimental HD font option

XSEED Games and Nihon Falcom have released a brand new patch for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II. This patch adds 120 FPS and 240 FPS frame limiter options, packs various optimizations to loading speed and caching, and fixes memory allocation ordering issues, eliminating some types of crashes occuring on some sytems.

In addition, patch 1.2 adds two experimental options that can be enabled by command line options. These two options are: HD font and LargeCache.

As the developers noted:

This update introduces two experimental options that can be enabled by command line options. Note that these are experimental for a reason – we want to provide them to you if you are interested, but they are not fully tested throughout the entire game.

  • -hdfont : This option enables a high definition font. It is natively designed for 4x the resolution of the default font. This will be especially useful in combination with the QHD UI mod.
  • -largecache : Increases the size of the cache, which should make the loading time optimizations even more effective in longer sessions and reduce the number of instances of longer cache-clearing load times.

This patch will be auto-downloaded from Steam, and you can find its complete changelog below.

  1. Now that’s the kind of support I can applaud. The other JRPG studios should be taking notes, rather than just locking their games to 60 and calling it a day.

    1. Tbh, I can’t stand 60fps locks. I dislike them because we end up with buggy games and poor optimization, that the 60fps lock is rendered null when you’re sporting high end hw and cannot keep it at 60 for such a low par game.

Older titles that were optimized in the past and locked at 60fps I can run with ease, but titles from 2010 onward that are locked at 60?, no chance of staying at 60 99% of the time.

  2. It always amazes me how much effort and care Xseed puts in their PC releases. I purchased it day one and I’m now in the beginning of Chapter II. Already passed the 30 hours mark and I still have a long way ahead.

        1. i buy psvita version but its full of bugs -_- and superb long load time, i ask my friend 2 buy from GOG because i dont know how :v and got superb long load time , and i ask the admin he say i need the patch , but i dont know what 2 do T_T

          1. On Psvita there’s nothing to do to improve loading times, unfortunately. On PC you can play it even in a weak system, and the loading times will be much faster than Psvita. Maybe is something wrong with your PC?

          2. My Tocs 2 version is 1.0 admin GOG says i need patch 1.1 , 1.2 , 1.3 , 1.3.1 , but i dont know how 2 get those , all i found was codex version

          3. I play Tocs 1 and its says version or patch 1.4 , its all smotch no lag or bug , so maybe the problem is the data maybe corupt or bug somting :v , well i have gog and all i need maybe find the patch :v

          4. If you want less trouble with patches download the game through GOG Galaxy www. gog.com/galaxy . It always download the latest versions.

  3. Played both and the older ones, pretty good series nothing AMAZING but fun regardless, it makes me kinda sad seeing how much effort they put on those port and get so little recognition and sales.

    1. i only brought the first one at full price and all others at a discount, i agree with you even if they are all 50hrs+ games, the graphic quality is ps1/2 tier and the presentation can be quite pathetic. was it not for the lore and background story i would have give up the series long ago.

  4. Same here, but the massive price tag has immensely dissuaded me.

GOG will sell me both base games right now for $79.98 USD. GOG says that all the DLC it has for the them will cost $80.84.

…When the DLC costs more than the game

    1. You really don’t need the DLCs, purely cosmetic items, not even good looking imo and resources, items you can use to level up faster. I agree the price is pretty steep if you want to get both of them from start, but the games are REALLY long.

  5. This kind of post-launch support is simply sublime. XSEED and Durante are doing themselves proud seriously.
