Squadron 42 PC minimum requirements revealed and list 16GB of RAM, new teaser trailer released

Cloud Imperium has revealed the official PC minimum requirements for Squadron 42; the single-player portion of Star Citizen. According to the specs, PC gamers will need at least 16GB of RAM. Yeap, this is the minimum RAM requirement.

We don’t know whether the game will lock out those with less RAM like previous Call of Duty titles did in the past. And while Squadron 42 won’t be out anytime soon, these RAM requirements feel a bit exaggerated (especially for a single-player game).

But anyway, apart from these high RAM requirements, PC gamers will also need a quad-core CPU, a DX11 graphics card and a 64-bit version of Windows 7, 8 or 10.

Here are the full PC minimum requirements for Squadron 42:

OS: Windows 7 (64bit) with Service Pack 1, Windows 8 (64bit), Windows 10 – Anniversary Update (64bit)
GPU: DirectX 11 Graphics Card with 2GB RAM (4GB strongly recommended)
CPU: Quad Core CPU
RAM: 16GB+
Drive: SSD strongly recommended

        1. Why, loads of PC games have SSD’s, they’re cheap now anyway and worth every penny in regards to loading times.

          1. Depends how big the game will be. I wouldn’t install nuDoom on a SSD despite its loading times being quite bad. Games are getting ridiculously bloated and with SC being two games, one of them open world, both of them flight sims with planetary exploration (presumably) I doubt the final game if it ever happens will stay under 100 GB.

  1. 32GB of ram installed in my i7+ GTX 1080 Ti system here. So I’m good to go.

    The question is when exactly will the full finished game come out?

        1. No, I think you may need help, I mean anyone who does this in something they don’t care about in every Star Citizen article has a problem.

          1. That’s fine, your opinion but in just about every article is bordering on mental illness. If not then it must be something real, Did Chris Roberts come and p*ss on your pets and familly or something, did he call you a horrible name? I wouldn’t blame him though the way you act.

        1. Maybe you havn’t seen his comment history and you must have some kind nof mental illness for attacking Star Citizen in every article or Chris Roberts killed his pets. You also have no clue and pre judged off one post.

    1. It is not CPU bound for now. Backers with latest I7 do not have significantly better FPS than me with and old I5 x 4 cores without multithreading.
      Having a GTX1080 will give you 10 extra fps (25/30)

      Currently CIG do have to improve the numbers of data shared. This process allowed to jump from 5 fps to 25/30 fps. This willl improve up to beta.

    1. There was no reason to buy that much RAM so far, unless you bet that prices would somehow get even worse and stay that way until 16 GB were needed (which hasn’t happened).

      1. If you plan on keeping your PC for awhile. A larger initial investment can give you more years with minimal updates required over the life of the PC.

        1. Before RAM prices went up buying RAM early would make no sense, economically. Only someone who knew about those factories burning down in advance would reasonably buy RAM he didn’t need in advance. They burned down, right? I didn’t look into it much.

      2. “No reason”? You’re assuming the people commenting here don’t use their PCs for tasks other than gaming that may benefit from more system memory.

        1. He said “real gamers”, implying that “real gaming” would require 16 GB RAM. He didn’t say anything about video editing or the like.

  2. I have 16GB RAM now and will have 32GB for my next build regardless so I don’t care. So long as they don’t have some block in place to keep users from running the game if it sees they have less than 16GB who really cares what they slap on the requirements page ? If it turns out to be false and your 8GB runs it well great ! Anyone who is building or upgrading based on requirements for a game that isn’t out yet is a fool anyway.

  3. RAM prices have gone up unfortunately,so if you’re looking to upgrade now it’s a bad time, £60+ for 8GB of DDR3 2400Mhz. Thankfully I brought my extra 8GB a while ago when the prices were not so high.

  4. 16gb should be standard these days for any pc build, I don’t see a problem.
    I know it’s not the norm, But I have been running 32gb for the past 3 builds so I am always future proof on the ram side.
    We need games to start pushing like the old days, Instead of just catering to console spec systems.
    Damn, I am so old I remember when Wing Commander came out and you needed the latest Intel 486 cpu just to run it decent, Then Strike Commander with the very first Pentium cpu, Games alone used to sell pc’s back then. Now we have crap games that run on potatoes.

    If it ever does get released this back-burner joke will be a massive buggy mess that wont see worthwhile patches for years more.

  6. Damn I hope that at least Squadron 42 turns out well. I have no interest in the multiplayer side of Star Citizen. Probably multiplayer is just swamped with whales in their hundreds or thousands of dollars ships blasting new players in their entry level ships to hell and back.

    Yes I know you can buy insurance and better ships with in-game currency but I imagine you would have to be able to manage to stay alive for a while and do missions to get that currency.

  7. I won’t lie, games *do* run better with 16 GB instead of just 8 GB. However, I think having in reality something like ~12 GB is more than enough for anything.
