WilsonC is currently working on a new first-person shooter that will be using Unreal Engine 4, called Trepang2. Trepang2 promises to feature an AI that will be better than most of modern-day shooters. Not only that, but it feels – gameplay wise – as a great F.E.A.R. remake. Or at least it’s heavily influenced by Monolith’s shooter.
While still in a very early state, Trepang2 already features a really powerful shotgun, slow-motion mechanics and a great enemy AI. I mean seriously, take a look at the following video and tell me you’re not getting any F.E.A.R. vibes.
Trepang2 promises to feature an immersive single player experience with brutal, fast paced close quarters gunfights. The game will also feature chaotic shootouts involving multiple factions, and players will be able to go invisible to flank and sneak up on enemies.
As wilsonC noted:
“Currently the AI already outshines most modern games out there, AAA or indie (with the exception of a few nasty bugs), despite being so early WIP. I’m in the process of rewriting the goal system now (defending, patrolling etc), and it should be in a working state by next month. By then, be ready for some truly next generation AI, that can counterattack, prepare ambushes, and many other tactics and strategies, without using any scripts or triggers.”
Sounds awesome? Oh yes, it definitely does. And even though there isn’t any ETA yet, wilsonC has already released an early tech demo for you to try. Do note that this demo came out in February, meaning that it’s a bit dated. As such, you should not judge the final game – or its mechanics – based on it.
Those interested can download the demo from here. Here is hoping that wilsonC will keep working on it as Trepang2 appears to have a lot of potential.
Last but not least, wilsonC will release a new demo for Trepang2 in early-mid 2018.
Have fun!

Looks cool
The invisibility mode was blatantly overpowered, hope it gets removed.
BALANCED, NOT REMOVED!
F.E.A.R. is one of the very few games I’d pay full price for a remaster of. That and maybe Blood.
Yes, they are busy making DLCs for Shadow of More loot boxes.
I just started a replay of FEAR last night. Even though the game is 12 years old I would still recommend it for anyone who’s never played it before. Best played at night with the speakers turned up.
I can’t watch the video because I’m at work but I will have a look tonight.
Play the expansion 2, the second expansion is not so good but has its moments. Fear 2 and 3 are meh.
FEAR2 is still perfectly playable, despite falling short of the expectations set by the first one. FEAR3 has co-op, and like most co-op games, it’s fun with a friend.
People hate on Resident Evil 6 a lot, but watching that ridiculous game unfold its story with a friend is the most fun I’ve had in video games in a long time.
People are crazy they always compare this to this… They can’t enjoy something new without looking at the old.
fear 2 has horrible weapons, inferior ai, barelly any scares and enemies light up like christmas trees in slow mo, with less john woo destruction effects and the story goes nowhere, especially since you dont play as pointman.
i would argue that fear 3 without coop is perfectly fine from a story and gameplay perspective, its just not fear. The game ends fine as far as the story goes. Meanwhile most of fear 2 felt pointless.
Resident evil 6 to me was fun, it was so bad at being resident evil yet so varied its its levels and situations that it was infact a fun action adventure game, also pretty long.

metro is not that great it has a nice setting, but its nothing more than undergound dark corridors with awful enemy spawns and meh combat. Now if they make the new game open world…..
I will second S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at #1.
shadow of mordor, shadow of war.
The AI does not know how to throw grenades yet (they keep killing themselves / each other). But they already have the call-outs and their movement seemed reasonable enough. Important: I hope the invisibility mode is shortened, it’s too much like Crysis, will lead to the same problems.
Yeah ,it’s not the same studio now sadly! 🙁
After F.E.A.R. and Condemned – both amazing games – and their sequels, Warner Bros. put them to work on… a Batman-themed multiplayer shooter. Now they’re on the Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor series, which I really enjoy, but is nothing like their old games. R.I.P. old Monolith.
Always a little uncomfortable when projects like this get highlighted. It’s great to see what individuals are capable of creating, but at such an early stage there’s always a good chance that nothing will actually come from this. Just look at all the failed crowd-funded games. Still, good luck to him.
