Forza Motorsport 7 – Demo is now available, launch trailer released

As promised, Microsoft and Turn10 have released the demo for Forza Motorsport 7. In order to celebrate this demo release – as well as its upcoming launch – Microsoft has also released the game’s launch trailer that can be viewed below.

Players will be able to drive the Porsche 911 GT2 RS to the brand-new Dubai circuit, the Mercedes-Benz Tankpool racing truck to the high-speed Mugello circuit in Italy and the Nissan NISMO GT-R LM to the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit.

The Forza Motorsport 7 demo will feature assists that will allow players to dial in the difficulty the way they see fit. In addition, PC players will have some performance/graphics options to adjust the experience to their preferences.

In order to download the demo, you’ll have to open Microsoft’s Windows 10 Store and type “Forza Motorsport 7 demo”. Do note that this demo is almost 22GB in size.

Have fun!

    1. The user reviews on the game’s store page are largely terrible. Many reports of performance problems and CTD. Currently rated at a lowly 2.3/5.

      1. The reviews on the store are useless for every game they are all over the place for every game. Just ignore it and try the demo for your self.

        1. The reviews I read were all seemingly fair based on their own individual experiences with the game. I wouldn’t be so quick to judge other people’s stated experiences as being “useless” seemingly because they don’t match my own experience or because I don’t share their opinion.

I’ve since sampled the full demo and it ran great for me on my PC. That said, in the game’s menus I noticed the options to run at 30fps and 60fps with or without v-sync enabled. I didn’t notice any option to run at above 60fps or at an uncapped frame-rate.

Also, I didn’t notice any mention of whether the game can be played in VR. Surely a big budget racing sim in 2017 such as this must run in VR?

          1. Thanks for the clarification of the game’s poorly stated menu system. I’ve already uninstalled the demo but it played just fine on my PC with no discernible frame-rate issues.

I noticed elsewhere that folk have been buying the game at a greatly reduced price using VPN but I didn’t personally bother because, well, it’s a Windows 10 Store UWP title and they’ve not bothered to enable it to run in VR so that’s a deal-breaker regardless of the price.

          2. I didn’t read the reviews for Forza 7, just downloaded it for I am a fan of racers and it was free.

Fair enough(I didn’t bother read the reviews this time since it was a demo & free). I just am tired in general of the reviews and player feedback on most digital sites(especially Steam) and most game web sites. Seems like most people just enjoy to hate and troll stuff these days so I just gave up and make up my own opinion when I play a game(else I refund it or watch a YouTube vid before I buy). So that is why I said that, not pointing the finger at the Win Store even though I feel it is pretty bad feedback + rating from other games I bought on the site before.

Yeah the menu is a bit odd, it’s there but sort of hidden and cryptic. I have a 1080 Ti and I can’t even play every game at 120 FPS on ultra + 1080p so its pretty niche market anyways. As a game dev I agree it still should be an option in the majority of games and a standard.

As for VR support that is even more niche than 120 & + hz / FPS support. Sucks if you have VR and a game doesn’t support it 🙁 , I get what that is like with my 3 screens. Still it seems unfair to crash reviews and scores over those two elite features to me since it is not relevant to the majority of gamers and the rest of the game is solid.

I use three screens in my PC config and want every game to support it but I don’t freak out and tank the reviews of games if it doesn’t have that support(and most don’t). This is the sort of thing I dislike in today’s reviews and opinions, it takes one small thing that is missing and its a 1/10. Not giving an excuse to MS+F7 for no VR but there are way worse companies that exclude everything on the PC.

Anyways I know it sucks if a feature you want is not their like your VR and you invested in that config, so I get that. Maybe they will add it later, but I doubt it.

        1. Well done you for yet again spamming another disingenuous piece of information in picture form.

Also, I’m not sure that your corporate overlord will be pleased with you for highlighting that their impending ‘new’ console’s potential will be nearly maxed out on day one. gg

        2. btw with my 980ti and my i7 from 2012 i did a benchmark of 4k ultra with 4x msaa(xbox one x wont even use msaa for 4k anyway)

guess what an average of 65 fps with a max of 74fps

          guess i was right XDDD

          1. Average 65 is very low… Xbox X never dips below 60, no single dropped frame. If your average is only 65 then you need a faster hardware to have constant 60fps without any dips below 60.

How many times your hardware dips below 60? What is your minimum fps? Is is above 60 or below?

          2. Xbox X is always above 60, no single dropped frame. Constant, locked 60 fps, without any dips below 60.

What is your minimum fps? Is is above 60 or below?

Its very simple question. If your hardware is always above 60 without any dips below then your hardware is as fast as Xbox X or even faster. If your minimum fps is below 60 then your hardware is slower. Simple

          3. with 4x msaa minimum 56fps
with 2x msaa never below 60fps
and xbox one x wont use msaa at all for 4k

and this port is badly optimized on pc using only 2 cpu cores…no game ready driver yet…so the final result if turn 7 decide to patch it like they eventually patched horizon 3 on pc should make even 1060 being able to run this at 4k 60fps

and you were raving about a 1080 for 4k 60fps ultra…well maybe if you enable 8x msaa which should be overkill anyway

          4. “with 4x msaa minimum 56fps”

Only 56 fps is very bad. I don’t like screen tearing. If your hardware can’t run game on constant 60 fps then you should try lower setting or buy faster hardware.

Forza on Xbox is famous because it never drop below 60, no single dropped frame even on old Xbox One from 2013. Its very important to have constant 60 fps is driving game

          5. thats why i play with 2x msaa and locked it at 60…fanboy
and whats wrong with drops to mid 50’s as long as it doesnt feel stuttery its fine in many games 56fps is not very bad and at 144hz with gsync there is no screen tearing whatsoever…pfff

          6. many console games target 60fps but got drops under…like doom and rise of the tomb raider on ps4 pro and xbox one x on performance mode and also the first project cars…that makes them unplayable? not
even mario kart 8 on wii u got 1fps drops to 59fps…besides i always prefer above 60fps because of my 144hz monitor but some games like witcher 3 with hairwork drop to mid 40’s its ok because its a third person rpg and on console its struggle to maintain 30fps…30+fps on third person games with controller is playable…for racing and fps anything below 50 is bad

          7. Forza Motorsport never drops below 60… no single frame. This is why people like those games.

But i agree that some slower games such as RPG are playable in 30fps. Xbox X support AMD Freesync 2 for those games.

          8. “with 4x msaa minimum 56fps”
And in such case, is your GPU 100% used ?

“and this port is badly optimized on pc using only 2 cpu cores…”
Yep, right. Nevertheless, that’s not surprising when you consider what they have done with Apex.

“should make even 1060 being able to run this at 4k 60fps”
            Pretty sure it will

          9. XboxX runs forza7 with 60 locked (and 90fps average as digital foundry have found out) in 4K. But I dont know what msaa settings xboxX will use, we still need to wait for digital foundry tech articles to be sure.

        1. Well, it certainly sucks for those whom the game isn’t running well and is suffering CTD issues. It worked fine on my PC so hopefully Microsoft Studios will remedy the issues for those affected. Then again, remember it took them EIGHT MONTHS of patching to properly fix Forza Horizon 3 so I wouldn’t be too hopeful!

          1. Part of issue with fh3 Is it was initially designed for console only and 30fps and MS later decided was coming to pc

          2. Absolutely. Not that Microsoft Studios have wholly remedied that situation even now with FM7 given that its official recommended system requirements feature an i7 6700K for 4K/60fps when the abysmal AMD Jaguar can do that on one console. They’ve improved somewhat but this is still a console-centric product.

          3. That “custom Jaguar” have built in “hardware directx command processor” which process directx commands is 100x times faster than your i7 6700K which run directx as “software program”. Hardware is always faster than software.

Xbox hardware command processor need only 11 instructions to create single “draw call” on GPU. Software graphics drivers on PC need thousands CPU instructions to create single “draw call”

            Next time use Google 🙂

          4. Yes because it needs it being so slow, Ryzen and i5/i7 have great IPC and multihtreading performance which is enhanced using DX12 command buffer.

          5. ‘Baked in’ DX12 as Microsoft keeps on saying. For that cinematic 30fps in Destiny 2 and all other games of any real ambition that aren’t simple racing games, undemanding corridor shooters and basic indie titles.

Next time stop blindly fanboying for your corporate overlord. 🙂

      2. On my side, performance is not the main issue. Using a wheel, sensation can be weird. Still a simcade game it seems.

    2. Same it looks incredible(performance is really solid too) and most importantly handles perfectly and the AI is very good as well.

Good night Project Cars 2 sweet prince, Forza 7 is the new King. I will be getting Forza 7 as well, I can’t freaking wait for the full game!

      1. Great battle begins:

        1. Forza Motorsport 7
        – native 2160p on Xbox X (8.2 million rendered pixels: 3840 × 2160)

        2 Project Cars 2
        – dynamic 1360p – 1440p on PS4 Pro (3,2 – 3.6 million rendered pixels)
        – ??? on Xbox X

        3 Gran Turismo Sport – PS4 Pro
        – checkerboard “1800p” (2.8 million rendered pixels: 3200 x 1800 / 2)

        1. Great battle begins:

          1. Project Cars 2
          – VR on PC
          – VR on Sony consoles some time after launch
          – no VR on any Microsoft console

          2. Gran Turismo Sport
          – PSVR supported

          3. Forza Motorsport 7
          – VR absent on all platforms courtesy of Microsoft

  1. Ran like a dream with 3440×1440, Max Settings. So I set the Resolution Scaling to 200% and it still runs like a dream and now looks simply incredible and I still have more power to spare.

      1. •Players won’t experience truly asynchronous display unless they are running the game in full-screen mode and setting the resolution option to “Native Window Resolution”.

    1. I personally think Project Cars 2 looks better, especially with the water trail effects when raining. Project Cars 2 also has a more realistic artsyle that’s not as vibrant as Forzas. And how are you viewing FPS? I recall that Shadowplay and such doesn’t work with UWP games and there is no in-game FPS counter.

  2. Its the same game that released two years ago. Which was the same game that released two years before that. This is a pass, PC gamers love sloppy seconds man…

    1. Yeah same, I love the Horizon series way more then reg Forza series.

Still you have to admit it sure is sexy and plays really well, damnnnnnn! Still it makes me go.. “What is Horizon 4 going to look like !?”. Can you imagine! I really hope the XB1 X helps push/make a crazy version of Horizon 4 that we will also get on the PC.

  3. Really bad performance… those GTX 1060 drops below 60fps even on 1080p. Original Xbox One from 2013 is better because it will never drop a single frame below 60

    1. The xb1 x will also not use those same ultra settings, so can’t make that claim without matching settings. if 1060 cant manage the “4k” with enhanced then would be fair comparison, or alternatively, it would have to be native 4k with lower settings the xb1x employs.

  4. On your screen i see “17.1ms” for frame. Its below 60fps…

17.1ms* 60 is 1026 so you will drop 2 frames below 60 – you need render frames in 16.6ms to hit 60fps.

You need a faster CPU if you want have stable 60fps like on Xbox X.

    1. The frame pacing is off, you can also see that the GPU is only 60% under load so whether it’s accurate or not is suspect.

      1. The frame time is clearly not regular, you can make a vid with shadow play (and afterburner of course) and you will see huge fluctuation. In my case, the lowest frame time value is around 13ms, the highest 19.9ms.
