Sonic Mania has been delayed to August 29th

SEGA has announced that Sonic Mania has been delayed to August 29th. The game was originally meant to be released next week, on August 15th. SEGA did not reveal the reasons for this small delay other than the PC version – in its current state – does not meet its standards.

SEGA has also revealed that those who pre-purchase the game’s Collector’s Edition will receive the first Sonic game for free. This free bonus will be available for free as soon as owners get their hands on it. The Collector’s Edition will be shipping on August 15th.

Sonic Mania celebrates the best of Classic Sonic, pushing the envelope forward with stunning 60 FPS gameplay and pixel-perfect physics, and will feature a split-screen multiplayer competitive mode.

  1. Oh wow, Sonic 1, it’s not like everyone have that game on their phones for free already. Also, how the hell do you delay a game with literal toaster requirements?

  2. Doesn’t bother me, I would happily wait months for it. Can’t wait, the 2D animation, art and style looks perfect.

  3. “stunning 60FPS gameplay”

Do you mean like the original games? Yeah, incredibily stunning, of course.

  4. Where is it stated that it was? That tweet is completely unrelated. Scroll down the conversation and read about it instead of spreading FUD please.

    1. Trust me, I’m not the only one who is talking about this, nor do I claim it is 100% certain… but given the context, it does make you wonder…

I mean, just after the announcement that Mania was delayed on PC for 2 weeks, for “optimization” (when a Pentium 4 can run it… I find it hard to believe), Christian Whitehead tweets about this out of the blue and the article itself doesn’t even mention DRM. I mean what the hell? And he doesn’t tweet that often…

Really I hope I am wrong so I can laugh at myself but so far, nobody is debunking this. Doesn’t help that I have to be careful on Youtube to avoid spoilers… I know, it’s a platformer, but I still want to be surprised…

    2. “Sonic Mania uses the Denuvo anti-tamper tech, does not currently support offline mode” 8/30/2017
      cough cough

  5. i wish we had THIS type of animations over that Sonic boom garbage
look at this! this is beautiful! it captures the essence of sonic!

shame this game will be probably overshadowed by the new upcoming fanfic abomination that’s coming at the end of the year…

  6. I know, I actually read the article. It’s quite interesting, if a bit unsettling.

Still, my point stands. Why did he mentioned the word “DRM” in the tweet referencing the article? Wouldn’t the more appropriate word be “firewall” or “antivirus” or something along those lines?

Maybe I’m looking waaaaay too deep into this, but it just feels weird and the timing makes it all that more suspicious…

    1. Really, I don’t believe for a second the part about needing optimization. It’s a 2D sprite based game with an engine that was developed for the PC firstly and that could probably run on smartphones…

Maybe I’m too skeptical for my own good, maybe there is another reason why Mania was delayed on PC, who knows? But that doesn’t change the fact that I find SEGA’s reasoning kind of BS.

      1. I figured I would respond to you now that the game is out… it indeed does contain Denuvo. So your uneasiness was not unwarranted, and I was mistaken. Just figured I would let you know.

    2. Chris Whitehead is not involved with Sonic Mania to begin with, so yes you probably are looking too deep into this.
