Ubisoft plans to develop a new Splinter Cell game

A lot of Sam Fisher fans were disappointed at this year’s E3 as Ubisoft did not reveal anything at all about a possible new Splinter Cell game. However, and according to its CEO, it appears that the French company is indeed looking into developing a new part in its Splinter Cell series.

As Yves Guillemot said when asked about a new Splinter Cell game:

“What we can say is we’re receiving a lot of sketches and proposals around the brand and we’re going to pick one up. I think you will be able to see something, but you will have to wait for that.”

So yeah, Guillemot basically confirmed a new Splinter Cell game, though it is still too early to show or even talk about it. Still, we are pretty sure that this will please all Sam Fisher fans as the franchise has not been forgotten!

  1. It would be better if they had plans to make good, complete games; but hey, we shouldn’t expect a lot from them.

    1. Please do. Just do. Just because you don’t like the Splinter Cell series doesn’t mean they shouldn’t make a new Splinter Cell series.

      1. I think it’s mainly just the fear that instead of doing a proper SC game, they’re going to make Splinter Cell: Assassin’s Creed instead, in which case, I can agree with the sentiment of “I’d rather they didn’t do anything at all, really.”

        1. As long as it doesn’t go back to Ubisoft Shangai everything should be fine !
Ubisoft Toronto made a good splinter cell with Blacklist & assassin’s creed was already turned into cash crab at that point ! (2013 ‘member ? )
PS: Far Cry didn’t turn into an assassin’s creed…

          1. No, yeah, Far Cry just turned into a joke, instead.

Besides, Far Cry isn’t even remotely a stealth IP, whereas AC has always had “stealth” elements, which U-BE-SOFT seems to be amping up in Origins, with the introduction of several Batman: Arkham ripoff gameplay designs.

Besides, nothing stopped them from aping AC’s “tower climb to clear out map area” into Far Cry, in the end……

        2. Now there’s a man that clearly understands Ubisofts true motives behind any of their IPs. Well said!

        3. I have really enjoyed the last two as did many others. I just hope that they don’t go the open world route as I feel most games suffer because of it.

      2. I do like it bozo, I’ve been a fan since you were just a little kid. But i’m seeing it thru as I’ve matured over the years whereas you haven’t and can’t see the reasons why Ubish*t shouldn’t make another one. You clearly don’t know their moto at all. Here’s a hint “we’ll make a franchise out of anything and sell it over and over”.

That’s what they said, grosso modo, about Watch Dogs when it was merely well rendered trailer, then you know what happened.

  2. Unless they go back to the series’ roots and make it a very tactical game where you can’t shoot your way out of danger, I’m not interested in the slightest. In other words, I’m not interested in the slightest.

    1. Maybe the “can’t shoot your way out” part, but it’s still not even a faction as tactical of a game as the first 3 or 4 games. Those games highly resembled the classic Thief games, where moving fast was highly discouraged because you made a lot of noise. Movement was also slow and clunky, so you had to skulk in the shadows and really plan your path to take out or sneak around guards. Even just shooting an enemy meant that you had to be standing still, even aiming caused a decent amount of reticle spread. The new games are very much built around being a fast, speedy action hero with higher difficulties only upping enemy damage and being able to see you from further away.

      1. I haven’t played Chaos Theory in quite a while, but I remember the stealth mechanics being really in-depth. I was young, but I remember being mind blown by having things like separate noise and ambient noise markers that would let you mask your kills, being able to precisely adjust your speed with the mouse wheel, etc. The only thing I didn’t like about that game was realizing in subsequent playthroughs that it’s pretty linear and the path you follow is largely prebaked, but that first playthrough was still excellent.

    2. Well to be honest i like having both options….no wait, you can do that in ghost recon wildlands and phantom pain…yeah i agree with you, but make the maps less linear damn it, i want big military bases not linear corridors that you hide at the shadows at the corner.

  3. Hopefully they draw inspiration from Chaos Theory & Blacklist, rather than Conviction, if they actually go through with this.

      1. Sam : “Lasers, lasers are so…” Grímsdóttir : “90s?” Sam : “I was gonna say 70s, can you stop making me feel old!” Grímsdóttir “Got bad news for you Sam, you are old!”

        1. Michael… Ironside… Along with James Earl Jones, best voices ever. Okay, you can add Morgan Freeman to the club as well.

      1. Sure, Blacklist doesn’t compare to Chaos Theory, but it was at least a solid attempt at a Splinter Cell game, all things considered.

Though, yes, it did make several major mistakes, obviously (that one level where you were forced to use a gun, for example…… /facepalm).

    1. Loved Blacklist. I even wrote on their facebook account to tell them it was good.

      Probably didn’t matter.

      1. it was great but i wish the game had more nonlinear enviroments, too many damn scripted moments that cover how the game loads the next level. Make it like metal gear ground zeroes

    2. Yeah, but even if they rehash it, how much of it would the modernise, being the issue? If they do too much, then it’s ruined, whereas if they just shore up the weak points, then, great….. maybe?

    3. Blacklist was utter trash tier just like conviction and the next gen version of Double Agent.

CT and ps2/xbox/NGC version of Double Agent were the last proper stealth games in general really.

      1. Blacklist was definitely a second-rate stealth game, but putting it on the same tier as Conviction is tandem to unfairly elevating Conviction to the same level as Blacklist, in my opinion, which is ridiculous.

    4. What? Conviction had waay better campaign than Blacklist. Better story, better characters, Michael Ironside. Blacklist felt like a 24 ripoff (bad one at that too). Blacklist had better gameplay and animations tho.

If Conviction had the gameplay mechanics and animations of Blacklist it could have been the best game in the series.

      1. Sure, but Splinter Cell fans care far more about the gameplay than the story aspect, being the problem with Conviction. It had a good campaign, absolutely, but it ultimately failed as a Splinter Cell game.

Blacklist at least balanced itself between Chaos Theory & Conviction, regardless of how bad its underlying story actually was.

  4. Meh. Ubisheit will probably just make it an openworld with “Watch towers” to unlock the map fog and reveal side missions.

  5. Will it be open world?

Hey wait a minute a open world stealth game that you got to infiltrate large military bases sounds fun. None of this capture the outpost your way lazywork.

    1. If we’re that lucky, great, though I somehow doubt it, unless Square Turds undergoes a massive management reform…..

      Hm.

          1. Hey, dagoatf*cker, could you do us all a big favour & f*ck off with your trolling & your bad tastes?

            Good, great, thanks.

            Goodbye.

  6. Last one i enjoyed was the OG xbox version of double agent. After that they scraped all the details in the mechanics that made the games so special. Hell they should just reboot the game after double agent and continue the story as if you made a different choices like not kill lambert.

  7. I haven’t bought a Ubi game since the CEO said that 99% of PC gamers are pirates. I’ve probably bought 20-30 games since then and not one Ubi game. This will continue into the future.

I wouldn’t want to break the guy’s illusion by actually buying one of his company’s games.

  8. Yes. Sound playing a large part pretty much forces you to be immersed in the game. Man Chaos Theory was so good.

  9. F**k off Ubisoft, you have defiled my childhood franchises long enough
prince of persia, assassin’s creed, call of juarez, heroes of might and magic
you all destroyed it with $hitty, rushed, microtransaction infested sequels

stop releasing games and just die off alright, lest you will be remember as the biggest joke company who ever existed

      1. quality and Ubisoft does not go togather
since 2012 their Quality have been degraded to $hitty sequels and effortless “remasters”

    1. Agreed on all points, except Call of Juarez. Gunslinger may have been generic, but it was also pretty good 😛

      1. it got nothing on bound in blood, that game was a bloody masterpiece
gunslinger is a glorified arcade shooter

        1. Sure, Bound in Blood was definitely the better game, but at least Gunslinger works on Windows 7 if nothing else 😛

  10. Eh, Siege is good in its own way, but yeah, I don’t expect them to return to “classic” Rainbow Six anymore, unfortunately.
