Last week, we informed you about Vulkan supporting multiple GPUs only in Windows 10. Well, it appears that won’t be the case as the Khronos Group has announced that Vulkan will also support multi-GPUs in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (as well as in Linux).
As the Khronos Group claimed:
“The good news is that the Vulkan multi-GPU specification is very definitely NOT tied to Windows 10. It is possible to implement the Vulkan multi-GPU extension on any desktop OS including Windows 7, 8.X and 10 and Linux.”
The Khronos Group has also commented on its GDC 2017 slides that, obviously, mislead us.
“Some of the Khronos GDC presentations mentioned that for Vulkan multi-GPU functionality, Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) must be in Linked Display Adapter (LDA) mode. That was not a very clear statement that has caused some confusion. And so it is worth clarifying that:
- The use of WDDM is referring to the use of Vulkan multi-GPU functionality on Windows. On other OS, WDDM is not necessary to implement the Vulkan multi-GPU extension.
- On Windows, the use of LDA mode can make implementing Vulkan multi-GPU functionality easier, and will probably be used by most implementations, but it is not strictly necessary.
- If an implementation on Windows does decide to use LDA mode, it is NOT tied to Windows 10. LDA mode has been available on many versions of Windows, including Windows 7 and 8.X.”
The bottom line is that Vulkan will support multiple GPUs in pretty much all operating systems!

He is just pissy with some overtly whiny & cynical “PCMR” stuff around here (understandable tbh) but now goes around acting like this (as if it is any better).
I’d get pissy at it as well, but then I just got back from that Nier A Digital Foundry video and saw a ton of “Sony Master race” type comments, so really the right to be pissy towards one group goes right out the window when the other is just as worse. it’s become clear as day that last gen, one group of fans were building their salt pile, then they win this gen outright and pour said salt onto everyone else.
From the same group no less that still continues to think that PC gaming is still “dying/inferior”, so I think he[‘s out of hid goddamn mind to get all uppity about PCMr when you have those other clowns who have kept up that gig for years and years. To me, PCMR was a joke conjured by Yahtzee yonks ago as a ejst towards PC gamers, the other mentioned above is definitely not born from a joke and was worn as a badge of pride and mockery first and foremost.
Not mad at you or anything, just annoyed at his typical behaviour towards PC gamers and anything that benefits us.

If those groups or individuals are genuinely thinking like that, being toxic or just trolling, just *roll eyes* and move on, otherwise we will be recreating the same exact same toxic behavior and categorizing these “waste of time” as legit fans of “x” and perpetuating the issue.

I know, but I’ve found that ignoring the problem hasn’t made it go away, the only way we can make it go away is by standing up and getting them to knock it off via sheer numbers or moderation.
And then the echo chambers (or safe spaces amirite? :p) happen. “Closed communities” defending their interests, dare someone suggest some different or alternative thought, he shall be shunned down or shut up by the most vocal part. And then the cycle goes on. There is no coexistence with differences, only conformity with (what x group consider) a standard.
I agree with the sheer number thing, but the approach is unreasonable, instead of trying to shut these people up (which will make them scream louder), what should be done is a engagement to praise what is right, instead of trying to prove others wrong. The “transformation” should happen naturally, otherwise what happens is the perceived notion of “telling people what to do”, no matter how “right” your pov is.
I’m yet to see a place on the internet where reason thrives. There is potential in some places, but it just doesn’t happen, it is always “you shouldn’t like this”, “this is bad and you’re bad for supporting it” etc etc.

It would be best for everyone , well at least gamers, if Vulkan was the go to api, but so far there’s practically no games supporting it and I don’t really expect much change to that based on comments from developers on using low level api.

Thanks Dark Side of Gaming for being impartial and reporting things fairly. Not that Win 10 is any worse than the other Windows OS’s. It’s just good to have options and actually force MS to TRY and be pro consumer. If more devs use Vulkan and reshade/sweetfx supports it and not DX 12 (which the maker has already stated is the most likely), maybe MS will have to back off things or make their own tools and realize just how great PC Gaming is and why it is so great in the first place. We don’t want consoles. Whenever MS realizes that and embraces it, instead of sending out used car salesman Phil Spencer to blow smoke up our a@%, it will be a good day.

WHy does it actually have to exist when Vulkan supports multiple OS’s, while DX does not, it only supports only one OS, so why is DX better than the other that goes out of it’s way to support everyone else?.

DirectX 11 and 9 which most games use supports Windows 7 + which is huge majority of market.
Why is better? It’s not why is it better, the question is why would it be dropped. It does the job.

You still haven’t answered the direct question of why to forgo Vulkan and use only DX instead, this world ain’t going to be using both forever.
I have because there is no need. Just spend enough time optimizing the game and it’s gonna run great as it is.
On top of that they already have base foundation build so they don’t have to do that much work.
Then they can just use Vulkan and everyone wins at the end of the day than only 10 users.
