Rumor alert everyone. Reddit’s member ‘AnonDN1978‘ – who claims to be a former Rockstar dev – has leaked new information about the rumored sequel to Red Dead Redemption. Before continuing, we strongly suggest taking everything you are about to read with a grain of salt as it has not been confirmed whether this user is indeed a former R* dev.
As AnonDN1978 claimed, the sequel to Red Dead Redemption will be called Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West, will be a prequel to RDR, will be coming to current-gen platforms, and the PC version will arrive one month after the console release.
AnonDN1978 said that the game will take place in the same area as the original game, twelve years before the first original game, and that there will be three playable characters, two of which are from the original game and one will be completely new.
“The two “main” characters are Irish and Seth. Irish will be brought up in Ireland and will move to the Americas when he is fifteen and moves to the game setting when he turns twenty one. Seth is from Kansas City and works as a teller in a bank. He then hears of a treasure and uses his life savings to bring his family to Texas in the town of Tumbleweed. Throughout the story we experience him unraveling to his state of mind in the original game, losing his wife, children, home, and possessions to his treasure.
The third person is a character you create similar to multiplayer in GTA V. You choose his clothes and horse. Although you can unlock outfits for Seth and Irish, the third person (Who you name) can acquire all different kinds of Western tops, bottoms, boots, gloves, and hats.
Horses will also bring completely new customization to the game. You can choose there type/breed like the last game, but now you can also choose what saddle they have (with their own boosts and stats), storage, and paint.
You can also buy your own safe house and customize it.
Also, all of this carries over into multiplayer.
There will be many new and more thought out stranger missions as well as roughly thirty campaign missions for both Seth and Irish. The third character can be involved in the campaign, but can not be used in missions. He will appear as a “gun for hire” and works with Seth and Irish, tying the stories together.
“You” (the third character) will be in free roam, but Irish and Seth can be called in as companions (but not be played as), as well as other people. You will meet many of the characters from the original game including young Bonny Macfarlane, Sherriff, and even John Marston, but he will still be in his gang.
A big new part of the RDR prequel is the new gang system. You can join several different gangs, or if you think you are up for it you can join the law enforcement of certain towns, but this will restrict you on things you can do like robbing. Although you can rob it might cost you your hard earned career and possibly your life. You can also bring in a posse (up to 4-8 friends) to single player, technically co op now. You can take on certain side missions and a few campaign missions with your posse.”

AnonDN1978 also said that Bully 2 is also rumored at Rockstar’s office to happen, however he doesn’t have any solid info on that.
Rockstar has not confirmed whether RDR 2 is currently under development. However, AnonDN1978 claimed that the game has been in development for the last three and a half years.
As we’ve already said – and we’ll repeat once again – take what you read with a grain of salt. Rockstar has never announced a game at E3, so this could be bogus!

While AnonDN1978 used “Red Dead Redemption 2 **LEAK**” for the title of his thread in r/leakthreads, he changed it and used “Red Dead 3 **LEAK**” for his thread in r/gaming. This change came after a debate with some of Reddit’s members in r/leakthreads. Therefore, we’re calling this entire ‘leak’ fake.

Re release RDR instead atleast we know that game is good. Just use the latest rage engine, max payne 3 beat gta v releasing with the lastest version of he engine and then it was re released on ps4/xbone with the latest engine.

Switching engine with a game that big is really hard. They would surely just update it and add stuff. I also would imagine the new red dead is called something like that and not red dead redemption 2 because that’s not how the naming has worked with the two first games.

also it makes more money than consoles but that doesn’t mean PC games selling more than console games. no licensing issues and tax for digital games on pc is one of the reasons. also it depends on games too, we have games like COD which always sell on consoles more than PC, on the other hand RPGs on PC. we have games like bayonetta which didn’t sold at all on consoles, etc…

GTAIV sold a measly 0.85m on PC (http://www.vgchartz.com/game/25503/grand-theft-auto-iv/) and sold 10.88m on X360 (http://www.vgchartz.com/game/7103/grand-theft-auto-iv/) and 10.36m on PS3 (http://www.vgchartz.com/game/7102/grand-theft-auto-iv/). And it’s debatable if WoW is the best selling game on PC either anyway, according to VGChartz it’s the Sims. Also WoW has only sold around 10.09m copies so yes in this case GTAV sold more copies on console than WoW sold on PC. But this is irrelevant anyway since best selling=/= most profitable. If you want to argue most profitable platform then mobile is king.

Yep totally agree. If you care about gaming (PC or console) and care about devs being around then buy your games new and don’t sell them (and definitely don’t pirate them). I live by this mantra and buy most games I want day one. Sometimes if I buy something and really don’t like it (usually only happens if I get something as a present) then I sell them. The second hand market is no different to devs than piracy.

There’s nothing unique about consoles that would make them fitting homes for any game. The only reason exclusives exist is that Sony/Microsoft pay devs to keep games restricted to their platforms so people have to buy their stupid branded boxes. These games are essentially held hostage.
Exclusives exist purely because consoles can’t sell themselves purely on their own merits and there’s no innate reason to own them, except superficial ones like getting access to content that’s been locked away.

Max payne 3 was made and ported by vancouver. San diego who made RDR and the rage engine have no pc experiance so no pc version. The reason it was not released on pc is the same as destiny which CANNOT be pirated, they didnt have the required experiance, porting games to pc isnt a easy task, look at ubisoft or japanesse games.

Gta v was made by rockstar north who S2cks on pc. Gta v pc version is not the same as the x360/ps3 version. Last time they ported it in a couple of monts with rockstar torronto, they screwed up.
The game didnt take years it is a year and a few months dating from the last gen release. Could the release be delayed to boost console sales? Maybe, but look at 2014, every game was released broken. Multiple games were delayed such as witcher 3, batman arkham asylum and them as well as ubisoft and ea games ALL launch in the same day. Yes pc has higher piracy than other systems becuase nearly every other system has no piracy whatsoever and for the record piracy shouldnt even be possible in closed systems but it happens anyway.
Pc piracy is far lower now than it was before thanks to steam offering a better service, the pirated copies are a few hundrends of thousand at bests, those numbers are irrelevant in a world that AAA games need to sell 2 million just to break even. Piracy is a bigger threat for indie devs than AAA at this point.
If not mistake halo online has pirate copies that plays online. I’m pretty sure eventually they will have games that are pirated and can play online
99% of games dont have pirated copies that play online. Halo online was acquired by hackers in a early release meant for testing.
The whole premise presented here is shoddy and poor. Either they’ve lost their way or this is a stinking fake… recycling the map from the previous title, as well as two of the alleged lead characters and including almost entirely the same supporting cast of characters from the last game as well? That’s not Rockstar’s style. There’s also no reference to Red Dead Revolver here, in terms of numbering the games if they were to do so. Aside from everything else this user describes it as a prequel, before titling it Red Dead Redemption 2 – the kind of sloppy approach that again, is not the Rockstar style.
I’m hugely looking forward to another game in this series, but this would not be it. Seth and Irish were supporting characters in a greater story, and not multi-faceted enough to be interesting leads. The prequel element would remove all sense of interest in the story, and frankly I don’t see them developing for the PS3/360 gen at all, let alone getting the title out as quickly on PC as that.
I’d be happy with a wholly original story again, set at a different time in Western history, with an original map. The Red Dead series has the ability to soft reboot itself each game, taking inspiration from the last and building on it. I would love to see the same again – the same being something different!
