This new Tribals game is called Tribes 3: Rivals. It will be a team-based first-person shooter game featuring jetpacks, skiing, and class-based warfare.

In Tribes 3: Rivals, you and your team will dash around on skis and jetpacks, aiming to capture the enemy’s flag and protect your own. You’ll get to pick cool classes with special abilities, perks, and weapons, all while exploring awesome landscapes, from snowy mountains to spooky deserts.

Prophecy Games will release Tribes 3: Rivals on both Steam and Epic Games. The team will also launch limited playtests over the next several months. The first one will start this month. And although there is no confirmation yet, we assume that the game is using Unreal Engine, like its predecessors.

  1. Surely ‘tribes 3’ deserves a properly funded, experienced developer with a more ambitious and innovative vision? Otherwise why not just do a tribes 2 remake or something? Game still looks and works fine but it’d be a surer way to resurrect the franchise, if only briefly.

  2. The gimmick of Tribes is the ability to make massive jumps and fly temporarily on massive maps, right? And I feel like there aren’t many challengers in this specific category.
Do you guys know other games which could be comparable?

Borderlands 3 has some interesting low gravity areas, but this is mostly single-player.
Unreal Tournament has a few open maps but I don’t think there’s any mods which replicates the feeling of Tribes.

Tribes is pretty unique when you think about it.

In fact, the only game which comes to my mind when I see that guy doing those huge jumps is Giants Citizen Kabuto. (again, single player though)
You could also do massive jumps and even fly for a few seconds, it was so fun.
Damn, now I’m feeling nostalgic again. You just don’t see games like these anymore nowadays…
I feel like the late 90s-very early 2000s were really the peak of PC gaming, in both fun and innovation.
