TimeSplitters 4 2008 Dev Build Has Been Leaked Online

It appears that a PS3 dev build for the canceled TimeSplitters 4 has been leaked online. From the looks of it, this appears to be a tech demo and not a full game. Still, this may be something that will interest our TimeSpliiters fans. Not only that, but you can find below a gameplay video from it.

TimeSplitters 4 was the tentative title for the next installment in the TimeSplitters series. TimeSplitters 4 was meant to be exclusive to PlayStation 3. The game was first announced in 2007 and would be using the same engine as HAZE did.

Now I don’t expect modders to be able to port this PS3 Dev Build on PC. So, don’t expect to see something like the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Brazil project. I’m saying this so that you can temper your expectations.

To run it, you’ll either need a PS3 console or a PlayStation 3 emulator. Still, I’m not sure whether RPCS3 is able to run it.

In theory, once RPCS 3 manages to emulate it, modders may be able to further polish it and implement online functionality. Realistically speaking, I don’t expect this to happen. But hey, it’s something that sounds possible.

As always, we won’t allow links to the torrent files of this leaked dev build. You should also be extra careful while searching for it. Not only that, but you’ll need a PS3 dev kit (or a hacked PS3) to run it. So no, it won’t run on the retail version of PS3.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. With Embracer shuttering the rebuilt Free Radical, the TimeSplitters reboot should have been leaked, or posted.

Why do all these companies let their studios work for YEARS on projects, to just shut them down and not even remotely try to recoup even a single cent off of people’s hard work/their own investment?

If they took the project and put some quick menus and stuff in place and then put it out as a “Unfinished Project: TimeSplitters Reboot” and clarify it was a work in progress build that would never get finished, and sold it for $1, or heck, even free and just put it out as a portfolio project or tech demo, It would bring in something. It was also give a chance for the devs to have people see the work they did for years.

Instead it’s just a big fat goose egg. Nothing to show for all those people’s years or work. Nor do we as the public get to see anything. It’s a major reason why I despise announcements and trailers now. Why get excited about anything if it’s years away, there is no guarantee that I’ll actually get to play it.

    1. I rarely see trailers, teasers, etc. Only when the game is released and if it catches my interest. Waste of time to be invested on upcoming stuff when there is so many cool games out there and so little time to play.

      1. I’m the same way, but not because I think it’s a waste of time or there is too much other stuff to play. I just don’t see the point in watching a crappy CGI trailer that has nothing to do with the game and won’t show me what the game actually looks like when it is around 4 years away from release. There is zero point to it, since the game still doesn’t exist (and might never actually come out).

How many E3 trailers have we seen for games that never actually come out? The internet is all abuzz with that stuff and people spend so much time talking about it and then in never actually materializes (Remember Bioshock PSP?!)

    2. I also hate how they announce things too early and would rather hear about it 6-12 months before the actual release, kinda like what movies do. But the employees at FR did indeed post their work online as a soon as the news dropped about their project being cancelled. You can find them all on: timesplitters(dot)fandom(dot)com/wiki/Untitled_TimeSplitters_Game

Unseen64 is a great site and YouTube channel to find archived materials of cancelled games. They also show off how certain titles looked in their alpha and beta forms. You can find images of other cancelled TimeSplitters projects on there like the Wii one but it’s not much.

  2. So much was lost during 7th Gen to make way for COD, Hali and it’s clones.
It’s depressing, I know thing are awful in the AAA space nowadays, but the market is in a much better place nowadays than it was back then as companies aren’t dying left and right and can actually fill a niche.
