NACON has released a new in-engine trailer for Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown, showcasing some of its off-road cars and environments. And, honestly, the game looks kind of bland and average.
From what we know, this new Test Drive game will come out in 2024. And it looks really rough. From the average behind-the-car camera to the lack of any dust/smoke effects, this feels like a racing game that needs more time in the oven. So, I won’t be surprised if NACON delays until 2025.
And before someone says it, I know. This trailer does not represent the quality of the final product and blah blah blah. Still, this game feels late to the party. Forza Horizon is already a big thing, and The Crew Motorfest tried to do something similar. So, is there even a need for another open-world racing game?
Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown will feature a 1:1 scale recreation of Hong Kong Island. According to the developers, the game will retain the DNA of previous games while introducing a contemporary vision of the multiplayer racing genre.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown promises to feature the most eye-catching cars from a range of manufacturers, including the most prestigious: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Dodge, Apollo and many others.
Players will be able to freely explore the island or take part in various competitions. Moreover, there will be a heavy focus on customization and on social experience.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

WTF… Missing dust/dirt/tracks after a million years in dev and still just fluff trailers with no solid info on game modes or features and stuff? WTF.
If we strictly talk about the graphics the game looks more than ok for its scale, despite the strong DOF and the lack of particles which can be attributed to the game still being in development, i saw you praising uglier graphics than what we see in this trailer.
As for anything else, the TDU series always had dated physics and driving mechanics, all they had was a gigantic lifeless map and MMO wannabe mechanics, and this last entry already seems to go on that route again.
Visually looks quite good to me..does need dynamic mud, dirt, particle fx. Gameplay looks like trying to copy Forza Horizon 5.
I agree, it looks appealing to the eye, they improved a lot, especially for the trailers that were in november with the gameplay reveal and the anncouncement. I think they are going to improve a lot more before release, hopefully
Wut? This looks “really rough” to you? This looks borderline photorealistic.
The lack of dust being kicked up is an argument I agree with, but it looks pretty amazing otherwise.

“This looks borderline photorealistic”
It won’t look like that actual console hardware in-game. The concept of bullshots has been around since the PS3/X360 days at least.
No wonder publishers keep making CGI trailers: gullible fools like you fall for them hook, line and sinker.
I feel like its been a long time since we’ve seen some kind of major downgrade from marketing material to a final product since most studios who produce AA and AAA titles play it far too safe nowadays.
Racing games for me have looked pretty photorealistic since the PS3/360 era so I don’t think it’s much of a challenge for modern game devs to make things that are at least slightly better than that.
It doesn’t need to be at the level of the latest Forza or Grand Turismo as long as it looks appealing enough which the TDU does based on this trailer that is clearly in-game. If it gets downgraded then it is what it is. As long as they’re able to maintain a decent aesthetic and the game is fun to play then that’s the only thing that should matter.
I’d kill for more racing games like Blur and Split/Second even if they’re not able to take full advantage of modern technology. Those games still look great today and they continue to stand out from all these other modern racing sims because of their unique gameplay and presentation.
Those TDU:SC screens he posted are post-processed to hell. They absolutely reak of either bullshots or some shxt taken in a photo mode.
Oh right. I was unable to see it because it seems like the person blocked me for whatever reason. I stopped caring about promo screenshots because I’ve always noticed how fake a lot of them looked. They often show off things that you’re unable to mimic in the actual experience so I just wait for the actual in-game footage. Whether the image has been doctored or not I just don’t see how the game wouldn’t be able to achieve that. There’s nothing about it that screams “too good to be true”. You can find a number of pre-alpha gameplay vids on YouTube and it looks roughly the same, if not better.
everything made with unreal looks mushy and blurry.
This has to be some sort of corporate write off, how many sales are they expecting in a genre that is already over crowded?
Over crowded? Why do you think that we can get by by any boring s**t as long as it’s open-world?
This looks more interesting to me than forza horizon and the crew motorfest because it has a different personality not based on the festival theme. I think FH4 is the best driving game ever made but a new take on the formula with updated gfx is welcome at this point. The vegetation and environment looks high detailed and lighting looks more advanced than forza. The non-existent particle effects is a worry. I would not be surprised if they leave it out while giving some lame excuse and canned apology like so many devs are doing these days. Oh yeah we left an important and commonly expected feature out of the game to cut costs, sry lol. Oh and the price is $240 USD for the deluxe version. Because inflation. Thx bai.
i was gonna trash it but i saw that yellow lancia on a dirt road like its colin mcray and i gotta say, if anything its versatile, if you can customize cars like the underground games, i might be interested in it.
You mean “need for another tropical setting open-world racing game”?
Coz NFS has been open world for quite some time
And this is a sequel in the TDU series, which has been open world.
Not defending the game here, it looks a bit mediocre but I think the development started from scratch, a while back (2019~2020?) and were not aware of Horizon 5 and Motorfest’s settings. And also the team’s not comparable to Forza’s or Ubi’s, so obvs it won’t be in that level. The studio just wanted to do another game in TDU series after that awful TDU2. Bad luck Horizon 5 and Motorfest came before, developed by larger studios and looks better.
We don’t say ‘no’ to or question new boomer shooters after Doom Eternal, right?
i really don’t care i hate login to microsoft every time i want to play forza , hate even more when microsft suddenly blocks my mail adress because *i haven’t updated in years * if this game is good and doesn’t have cancerous garbage i will totally buy it.
yeah, i think it looks alright. (needs more dust) but they said the world is gonna be something like 5 or 10 times the size of Forza Horizon. can’t remember exactly what they said but it’s something crazy like that.
Thank you for the auspicious writeup It in fact was a amusement account it Look advanced to more added agreeable from you By the way how could we communicate
I have been surfing online more than 3 hours today yet I never found any interesting article like yours It is pretty worth enough for me In my opinion if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did the web will be much more useful than ever before
I just hope it has a hardcore sim mode like TDU1 had. Too many open world racers with arcade physics and handling.
What i do not realize is in fact how you are no longer actually much more wellfavored than you might be right now Youre very intelligent You recognize thus considerably in relation to this topic made me in my view believe it from numerous numerous angles Its like men and women are not fascinated until it is one thing to do with Lady gaga Your own stuffs excellent All the time handle it up
I very delighted to find this internet site on bing, just what I was searching for as well saved to fav
Who pays you to s**t on this game? Yes, we do need “another” game because there’re not many of them around and those released in the past 4 years are all crap.
FH5 is a boring reskin of FH3-4 and is the game that was really not needed.
FH MotorFest (I mean The Crew) can GTFO outright. It was already dumbed down game compared to TC1-2, on the island we’ve been 2 times. And now with Ubis**t closing TC1, the can go F off outright.
NFS Payback? Who remembers or cares about that?
