It appears that the physical disc copies of METAL GEAR SOLID Master Collection Vol.1 are out in the wild. As such, we’ve decided to share two gameplay videos from Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, and compare them with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of these games, running on PC.
For those unaware, Konami plans to launch METAL GEAR SOLID Master Collection Vol.1 on October 24th. Just so you know, this collection will be locked at 1080p, even on PC. And here’s the bummer: the first Metal Gear Solid game won’t go above 30fps. Not only that but from what we can see, the games are not even running at native 1080p resolution. Instead, Konami has upscaled the games to that resolution, meaning that their internal resolution is significantly lower. Yes, we’re talking about 720p. Ouch.
As you can see below, both Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 look blurry and low-res on PS5. And no, the PC version will not look better than this. There will be visual parity between the PC and the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions.
Ironically, the old PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid 2, actually look better on PC thanks to Xenia and RPCS3. Not only that but players can make these games look even sharper by using HD Texture Packs to improve their textures. Imagine that.
The only good news, at least for PC gamers, is that we’ll finally get a native PC version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Konami claimed that both MGS2 and MGS3 will support KB&M on PC. Now imagine if there aren’t any proper KB&M prompts while playing. This is an issue that plagued a lot of older PC ports, and it will be hilarious to see it in this re-release.
Anyway, go ahead and take a look at these videos. The top videos are for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 and the bottom ones are from the emulated versions.

Only thing I care about Metal gear Solid 4 in Metal Gear Solid Master Collection volume 2

You shouldn’t hype rumours, the chance of a Metal Gear Solid 4 release on Vol 2 is extremely low (and was not confirmed by any official sources).
Especially considering how low effort the Vol 1 is, I cannot see Konami putting any effort to release Vol 2 as well, and Metal Gear Solid 4 needs a major code overhaul.

True, getting that PS3-optimized engine of MGS4 to PC definitely will require some effort.
However, even Konami can’t be that dumb to name this Vol.1 and then following it up with a Vol.2 without including MGS4.
Right? 😉
Also keep in mind that the very first trailer of MGS4 shown at TGS 2005 was running at 60 FPS on PC hardware which was used by Sony as targeted specs of the then still unavailable PS3 devkit.
Of course, the final PS3 hardware turned out to be way below expectations, which is why MGS4 on a real PS3 can’t even maintain a proper 30 FPS target.
Still, maybe that first prototype of MGS4 on PC is still lying around somewhere at Konami HQ, and could be the basis for a port of MGS4 onto PC.
We’ll see, eventually…
No one wants Metal Gear Solid 4 on modern platforms more than me, the Playstation 3 is the worst console I ever had, but unfortunately is holding good games hostage.
While a good chunk of players hate on Metal Gear Solid 4, I always found it miles better than Metal Gear Solid V.
So I would rather not hype something that has a very low chance of happening, especially after what we’ve seen with this Vol. 1 release.
Konami did not put an ounce of effort into this, and I have no reason to believe Vol. 2 will be different and Metal Gear Solid 4 needs effort to be released on modern platforms.
I can’t imagine a Vol. 2 including only Peace Walker, but Konami are dumb enough so wait and see…
You forgetting Metal Gear Solid V and the other spin-offs, like Ac!d.
I can totally see Konami releasing Vol 2 without Metal Gear Solid 4, they won’t get away with a low effort port of that one.
I played that trash on Youtube and couldn’t finish it.
huh
Watching Full playthroughs on YouTube where someone plays the entire game with no commentary.
so the worst game in the series that feels more like a bad fan fiction movie than an actual Metal Gear game?
True, I actually managed to finish MGS4 with a custom build of RPCS3 on Linux.
And yeah, the story is absolutely a low point for Hideo Kojima.
Still, some moments are nevertheless worth experiencing, so I hope that more people will be able to do so with a port of MGS4 on PC.
rumor was he was purposely messing up the series so he could move onto other stuff
3 sucked too, no i am not taking this back.
at least it was a game instead of a 9 hour movie
there’s almost no chance of MGS 4 ever being ported to PC under Konami current leadership, either Konami get bought up along with MGS IP and finger crossed the new owner is passionate enough to fund a proper remake/remaster of MGS. or current Konami higher up completely changed
MGS4 barely even runs on RPCS3 due how much it’s handcrafted for the PS3 architecture, the PS3 was a curse to game preservation imo
While it’s true that MGS4 on RPCS3 is very demanding, I was nevertheless still able to finish it on my Linux PC with an Intel i7 Rocket Lake, which has full support for AVX-512.
However, to do so I had to compile a custom version of RPCS3.
Plus I enabled the PREEMPT_RT patchset, which turned my Linux kernel into a hard real-time OS, as that definitely helped in keeping a stable framerate with MGS4.
Barely? You should try now, RPCS3 has come a long way the last 2-3 years. I played it early this year at 1440p 60fps with a 5800X3D with spikes at 40fps if something explodes right in front of you. You also need crash fix that you can find on the RPCS3 wiki of the game. I was able to finish it being very smooth most of the time and just 1 crash. IMO is very playable, not barely.
Only a matter of time unlocked 4k resolution & texture mods will appear for this release to make it the definitive experience
