Alan Wake 2 4K Screenshots-1

Here are 30 minutes of new gameplay footage from Alan Wake 2

GameInformer has released two videos, showcasing a total of 30 minutes of new gameplay footage from Alan Wake 2. The first video focuses on the FBI Agent Saga Anderson whereas the second video focuses on Alan Wake himself.

Now as you may have guessed, these gameplay videos contain minor spoilers from the game. As such, we suggest avoiding them if you want to experience this upcoming survival horror game yourselves.

In Alan Wake 2, players will continue the writer’s story and experience Remedy’s first foray into survival horror. According to the developers, players will assume the role of both Alan Wake and a new female FBI agent, Saga Anderson.

Alan Wake 2 will be also among the first games that will take advantage of DLSS 3.5. DLSS 3.5 will introduce Ray Reconstruction and promises to offer better visuals in games that use Ray Tracing/Path Tracing. And, as we’ve already reported, Alan Wake 2 will be fully path-traced on PC.

Remedy was originally planning to release this third-person action thriller on October 17th. However, the game will now target an October 27th release, meaning that it was delayed by ten days.

      1. The people saying everything is “WoKe!” under every game are ironically getting just as annoying as the woke people saying everything is “RaCiST!”.

      2. it’s marxism and the tribe behind that, there are deeper parts to it all though. problem: monopoly bankster capitalism, reaction: marxism, solution/synthesis/compromise: technoslavery marxist corpo paradise of infrahumans “transhumans”.

        1. to me this is way too complicated to understand. I see black lives matters and the trans wave and I really do not understand how can people get into this. It is like a sect. absolute madness.

          1. so is it like a joke that got out of hand? Or was it in the beginning more like a political act that eventually stuck with angry people?

          2. all part of a larger strategy by tranzyformer cultists from the ghettopit then conquer royalty, convert them into members, 1688 milestone, on down to today. Light of Lucy being “revealed” as pike said. Hidden members all over usually family ancestry and mason membership etc one of their reveal movies was “they live” and the old V series but it’s laced in everywhere, their matrix. V=22, bearded venus, k=11 elitetribesters, 33brickmasons. serpent eats it’s own tail, lead and direct the opposition, I mean look at MTG or Riley Gaines those are not biowomen, but it’s in all facets.

          3. Man, seriously what you wrote is quite chaotic 🙂 I feel like the guy who was asked how many genders are there? and responded: I don’t know, I just got here 😀
So in short I am not an expert in conspiracy theories and to be frank I think the truth should be much more simple.

          4. yes I wrote it a brief as I could but most people are clueless and always will be, just not enough work and intelligence there. So yeah it appears that way no doubt, it’d be like teaching algebra to a 6yo, they don’t do it for a reason, have to work the way up to it and then onto trig and on to calculus etc And no the Truth in that context is NOT simple, that’s a truism we’re fed. It IS simple but most won’t believe the Truth, been that way since the Garden.

          5. I think most of us just accept that there is no way we can actually find out and confirm the truth. Also as we cannot really affect things it might not be worth dealing with all the work it takes to de-noise the available information.

          6. No way to find truth? Nah there are ways for different people at their various levels of understanding, that’s just giving up/lazy/cowardly. It’s also a huge lead in to relativity of everything, subjectivism, marxist state-god of “the truth” is what everyone votes on or is brainwashed into believing. There IS objective truth beyond the apetites and necessities like eating/bathroom etc but we’re jaded w The Circus Show of modern times. Good luck man I can’t keep going w this any more.

      3. lol 🙂 I tried to comment on this but I dared to use the word for male reproductive organ (since it was a reference to the custom size option in bg3) so it was deleted.

so in brief: forced inclusivity is oozing out of everything nowadays so it is a perfectly normal reaction to be sensitive to this. Some people just want to be left out of this and since it is all over the media it can have an immersion-breaking effect in games.

  1. Ah yes, the classic “I am a horror game, therefore I have a deliberately narrow and artificially claustrophobic field of view.” This time with added Control-style image blurring. Pass.

    1. The most realistic view with the least perspective distortion, is what you get from a 50mm full frame lens. (if you bring in a subject really close, like a portrait, you need a 85mm lens).

That’s a narrow view similar to what you see in this game. It is close to the perspective a single eye sees.

Games could in theory try to render the scene twice at 50mm, at a slightly different angle, to represent 2 eyes, and stich it together, which would give you a wider view, but that would double the rendering cost.

Everyone with half-decent intelligence starting photography, figures out that wide angle lenses cause massive perspective distortion after a few days. This is no different in games. In fact it is easy to see in games that have a wide field of view, how distorted everything looks. But if you have never done photography you might not notice it.

Personally I am not a fan of super wide FoV in games due to the prespective distortion it creates.

      1. Yep. Wide FOV is just dumb because it distorts everything. If you really need a wide FOV it is best to play on a 21:9 screen

      2. Why would it take a few days to cause massive distortion? (sry, I nearly had a stroke reading your comment)

As far as I know low fov is used for consoles to better suit the distance between the eye and the display and also for performance benefits.

Also, “everyone with half-decent” intelligence can understand that FOV can be fine tuned for your liking. I guess they do not teach this at the academy of photography.

And imo fray is right, this blurring looks ugly as hell.

        1. Why would it take a few days to cause massive distortion? (sry, I nearly had a stroke reading your comment)

          wut?

I said people starting in photography start to realise wide-angle lenses like 18mm-24mm, distort the perspective, especially of close-by objects. After a few days of taking pictures it will dawn on them what they’re looking at is not natural. It’s one of those things that once you realise them, you can not unsee them, you’ll immediately notice perspective distortion not only in pictures, but also in games.

This isn’t caused by a technical defect of the lens like barrel or pincushion distortion, this is perspective distortion that happens with any wide lens, and it happens in games too.

The reason we perceive that distortion is because human eyeballs are basically two 50mm lenses when it comes to focal length. The field of view of a single eyeball is neither wide nor narrow, it’s comparable to a standard 50mm lens on a full frame camera.

So when games use these wide viewing angles of 140 degrees or more, that distortion becomes apparent, because it no longer matches how humans perceive the world.

I’m sure you have noticed that if you use a wide FOV in games everything at the corners stars to pass you by at an unnaturally fast pace.

People talk about “realism”, “raytracing” and “textures” 24/7 in games, but no one seems to notice that the basic 3D world in many games is distorted due to the wide field of view.

          1. Professor, I perfectly understood what you meant to write the first time, it is just that you brought intelligence into the debate and combined it with bad english.
On top of this we understand you have a phd in photography but it is absolutely unnecessary to explain something that you can clearly see when you have a fov scale in a game. it has been around since quake and we all know it.
The guy only said it is a cheap way to create tension and he is not wrong.

          2. My English is fine, you just misunderstood what I said.

You don’t need a “PhD in photography” to understand perspective distortion either. It’s something some just become aware of once it’s pointed it out, but it’s certainly not immediately obvious for people not into photography.

I’ll give you a simple example of perspective distortion in the picture below. Go to Wikipedia and look up any large building, and see if you notice something weird.

All of these buildings seem to tip over backwards in photographs. That’s perspective distortion. No one noticed it or complains about it, photographers know and will use a tilt-shift lens to correct it. Once it’s pointed out to you, you can no longer unsee it and every image of a tall building will seem to tip over backwards.

Now, you can act like a smartass and argue you already knew all this, and maybe you did, but most people don’t. Most people think these are perfectly normal realistic pictures of buildings.

          4. Man, talking to you is like talking to a wall 😀 you have serious issues with comprehension to say the least.

          5. My comprehension is fine, so is my English. I could have phrased my initial sentence better where I argued it takes a few days before people get to grips with what perspective distortion looks like. You ended up misinterpreting it.

For what it’s worth, English is actually not my native tongue, but I am well-versed in it, fully capable of realising that when someone argues my English is not good, they’re full of baloney, it’s at the same level of any decently educated native speaker.

If you have issues with my English, the problem is your reading comprehension, not my English.

          6. you failed to realize that

1, I misinterpreted it on purpose (if it wasn’t bloody obvious I did it to fight back for your uncalled insult of fray)

for the sake of clarity this is what you wrote: “Everyone with half-decent intelligence starting photography, figures out that wide angle lenses cause massive perspective distortion after a few days.”

2, it has been like 4 comments now and you didnt even realize point 1, so I guess there IS something wrong with your comprehension

3, you say I have a problem with my comprehension in the same exact comment where you literally admit you could have phrased it better 😀 good job for defense mode.

4, AGAIN read fray’s comment, or shall I spell it out? Okay, I will spell it out. His OPINION is that low fov is not the way to create tension. He DID NOT and I repeat, he did not state anything about whether a certain fov would result in distortion in the resulting image or not.

NOBODY was talking about distortion except you.

congratulations on your comprehension, professor 😀

      3. Btw, I think it’s hilarious when people talk about the realism of raytracing and other techniques, without seemingly noticing the wide field of view in the game is distorting everything they are seeing.

Digital Foundry often does this, they have no idea they are looking at a perspective in a game that isn’t realistically being rendered, they are unable to see it and never mention it, but they praise the game for its realism because of a reflective puddle of water.

      4. I appreciate the technical comments here, but human field of view is 120 degrees, which looks almost double what is seen in this game. As noted above that’s like walking around with one eye closed. I am normally happy with a FOV of 90 to 100 degrees on a monitor.

  2. yeah, yet another main female poc character out of absolutely nowhere. definitely not woke

to make it worse, she’s not even hot

    sjws have killed video games

  3. idk the first one and dlcs had the twilight zone etc tie in, this kinda feels just tacked on franchise style and re4 remake-esque generic but we’ll see. And yeah the targeted replacement is so cringey obvious, like say the mayors of cities and such IRL, circus clowns to entertain really, send them in. And really AW is a version of Silent Hill 2, the wife is a big part of it like SH2 etc. AW2 even has a version of the hotel from SH2 from the videos etc

  4. Fück Remedy for bending the knee to the woke mob with this crap, no real fan of the first game wants to play as an ugly negress as the lead.
