Bokeh Game Studio had a playable demo for its upcoming third-person game, Slitterhead, at PAX West 2024. And, thankfully, Gematsu has shared three videos from it. These videos will give you your first proper look at the game. Moreover, they pack around 24 minutes of new gameplay footage from it. So, that will please most of those who are looking forward to it.
Slitterhead is set in the crowded and chaotic streets of “Kowlong.” In the game, players will take on the role of “Hyoki,” a mysterious being with no memory or physical body. Hyoki’s mission is simple: to hunt down and destroy the terrifying “Slitterheads”. But what are Slitterheads? Well, Slitterheads are basically monsters that hide among the city’s people by disguising themselves as humans.
Players will have to seek out allies among humans known as “Rarities” while roaming the game’s vibrant neon-lit cityscape. They’ll have to infiltrate and track dangerous organizations, and engage in battles harnessing the power of blood. Moreover, players will delve into the mystery behind Hyoki’s existence and the appearance of the Slitterheads.
Without a physical body, Hyoki has the power to take control of human bodies whenever he wants. He can use this ability to turn people into his pawns, sneak past barriers, and pretend to be certain people to get into dangerous places. By quickly switching between bodies, he can also move through the city very fast.
Though human bodies are weak, Hyoki can use their life force to turn blood into weapons to fight the fierce Slitterheads. Hyoki can also possess “Rarities”. These are special humans who can sync well with him. This will allow him to perform stronger attacks and use different abilities.
Slitterhead will be coming out on PC on November 8th, and you can find its PC system requirements here.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

Well said! Even if they SOMEHOW end up polishing this dog turd more, it still won't hide that the creatures are pure disgusting, not even in an "artistic" way, just pure abominations with incoherent things thrown on top of each other and called it a day that make you want to outright vomit.
The enemy from the image looks like a dog lipstick.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH wtf is this crap? This is worse than the mediocre x360 games we used to get. Why waste so much tame walking around? The combat is so stiff, wtf? it looks laughable.
I e xpected something completely different from this game. I had it on my radar for some time until the gameplay dropped recently, I was flabbergasted by how it was. Now seeing this gameplay, I can't even express how awful it looks and nothing like what I expected it to be. I like the body horror aspect from the cinematic trailer but geez, this is just bad.
yup it looks verrry boring
It's your fault for having any expectations to begin with. By now I would have thought that the gaming community would have learned not to anticipate anything purely from a cinematic trailers alone but I guess they'll never learn.
isn't it always 50/50? whether its a movie, game, series? You always hope it is what they say it's gonna be. Then when the moment arrives you either embrace it and support it or you're disappointed. This has nothing to do with gamers. Ill give you an example; Star Wars Acolyte or what about rings of power? Rings of Power was the first thing in years LOTR would come back and see how they f*cked it up. So no don't blame 'gamers' that's just stupidity, it is in every industry but I guess some people never learn to see that and prefer to points fingers.
That was always the case in the past but nowadays, more often than not, we’re met with great disappointment and very rarely with incredible new IPs like Wukong and Stellar Blade. My point is that you shouldn’t be expecting anything from cinematic trailers alone. You might dig the premise and the overall tone of the game but it literally tells you nothing about the gameplay.
Gamers have always been duped into falling for the same trick over and over and over again, and it made total sense at the beginning when gaming was still in its infancy, but by now people should know better. Especially if you’re an adult who has been gaming their whole life. I have this game on my watchlist but I tempered my expectations beforehand because I knew nothing about it. So visualising in my mind how the game would play would be foolish of me to do. It could have gone for a turn-based battle system for all I know.
With movies and TV shows it’s a different case altogether. When you watch their trailers you’re seeing segments of things you will inevitably see in the full product. Unless they decide to remove certain scenes or alter them like what they did with No Way Home by not including the surprise appearances in the marketing materials, then what you see is pretty much what you will get. For Star Wars Acolyte and Rings of Power, people were already expecting the worst considering the controversies leading up to their release.
Cinematics or even ' shown gameplay' are being heavily downgraded, if you can remember Watch Dogs back in the day, the gameplay looked amazing, when the game arrived it was nowhere near as close as what they'd shown. I like cinematics but I know it ain't what we're gonna play, it is only there to create hype. You're right, That's what I had with slitherhead, I digged what I saw until the recent gameplay.
I'll tell you, I've tempered my excitement for any game, as you mentioned Wukong and Stellar Blade are both expentionally well done, they delivered on the expectation, I enjoyed both games. When it comes to most ' upcoming games' or in fact any game, I know it's gonna be, most likely, a let down. Especially looking at anything in recent years, companies like Bethesda, Ubi, EA, Blizzard, they were once the pinnacle of the gaming industry, delivering great experiences, nowadays they deliver hot messes, Diablo IV was undercooked, SW: Outlaws is a bugfest, Fallout 76 at launch was an absolute disaster same goes for Starfield, the list goes on unfortunately. If I'd ever buy a game, I wait for metacritic reviews or I buy it through other websites so I dont have to pay 60-70 dollars, I find those prices absurd to begin with. Thing for me is, when you pump money into something, you must expect a proper game, not a halve baked bug fest game, from any company, even indie devs should deliver on it. And of course with the recent microtransaction sh*t, where to even start? It all went down the rabbit hole when they started with DLC packs. Gaming, or at least a game like Wukong is rare these days, Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, those games are examples of what gaming should be and should stay.
Sure, movie/TV trailer show segments, as you said there are moments where they leave certain things out or they cut things. However my issue with trailers is that they show the best segments, usually the best action scenes, I get it, to create hype, so people go to the cinema or get a subscription when it launches digitally. Although I know they're met with controversies said shows, there are times where people overreact, and then when you watch it yourself, it ain't all that bad sometimes (not saying that about the shows we mentioned, just generally speaking). To be fair to RoP, I liked most of the visuals, but the story, the way they adapted it, I find it egregious to Tolkien's lore.
"Watch Dogs back in the day, the gameplay looked amazing, when the game arrived it was nowhere near as close as what they'd shown."
That game along with FC3 and others by Ubisoft already had major downgrades prior to their release but they still ended up being the kind of games they promoted from the start. Even if they're not ideally what some or most of us would have wanted it to be.
Also, Ubisoft had a knack for creating fake E3 demos. You can see a video on YT which demonstrates what I'm saying for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. The vertical slice demo literally breaks or glitches out if you don't follow its linear and shallow path. So I don't think the Watch Dogs E3 2012 demo was ever a real game. They shamelessly promoted their games using bullshot pictures, which is still a common practice today unfortunately.
I don't disagree with everything else you're saying. It's just we need to understand that video games are not the same as other mediums because their core essence of what makes it unique is their interactivity. Not their flashy cinematics. As someone who has a strong preference for games that are story rich, something that provides purpose and motivation to keep playing through, I also understand the importance of having a fun and unique gameplay.
The general rule of thumb every gamer needs to adopt in order to avoid further disappointment in the future is to await proper gameplay. It's fine to have expectations for things like the upcoming Gears of War, Fable and Mafia games since we all know what to expect from those franchises. But when it comes to new IPs from newly established studios, we should set our expectations to a bare minimum.
I like some japanese jank so it's not a complete write off for me. Fun fact, i tought Ghostwire Tokyo was this game for a while.
Looks janky and frustrating.
This looks terrible!
Another souls game??? wtf?
lol
its not that im mad about it being a souls game , its more about my ilness that causes me to get anger attacks in like…snap of a second , f*** brain!
The bosses Alley Monster and Giant Leaf Insect looks too similar to one another, and their sound is identical. Other than that, i like the atmosphere, tough a horror game would be more suited to it, game looks like an action game.
Game premise reminds me of Clive Baker Jericho, in which you play as the spirit of a dead squad leader and have to lead your surviving team mates to victory, one possession at a time. Interesting premise, but the game had some problems.
