SEGA has just released the first gameplay video for Sonic Forces. Sonic Forces feels like a spiritual successor to Sonic Colors, but with the 3D/2D mechanics of Sonic Generations. The game is powered by the Hedgehog Engine 2, and is currently planned for release this Holiday season. Enjoy!

I’m not a fan of 3D Sonic Games,
Imho, Sonic should return to “2D” Roots same as Rayman did.
Well, then go get Sonic Mania instead. No one’s stopping you from picking that one.
Sonic Mania looks like a romhack… I’ll prefer a brand new 2D Sonic
TBH if Sonic Mania does well I can totally see a brand new Sonic game. Basically, the Sonic 4 we should have gotten.
I really really liked Sonic Generations. The multiple modes of being able to do 3d sonic that flowed or do the 2D ones with better graphics.
Now Lost World was an abomination
It looks pretty. But what the crap is this setting? Also, I’ve never played a sonic game so maybe I just have no idea..
Eh, Sonic has done city scapes in the past. Sonic settings tend to have a more technological bent to them than Mario games. Just google Sonic Adventure 2 Truck Chase scene for one of the series more iconic city settings.
It’s a bit weird, but hey the new Mario looks like it takes place in Central Park.
New Donk City actually.
I meant how it looks like Sonic: World War III
Contrary to popular belief, Sonic games ever since the Genesis days had some edge and grittiness to them, despite the cutesy appearance, just more subtle. The Adventure games where more energetic and in your face with some cheesiness to them. Then Shadow and 06 ramped up the edginess to the point it was not even funny. Unleashed had a nice blend of dark and lighthearted. Colors, Generations and Lost World became more juvenille than anything else. Now Sonic Forces looks like it wants to regain its lost edge.
TL; DR: The tone in the Sonic franchise is very inconsistent and quite frankly a mess.
Well,I can call myself a seasoned Sonic veteran at this point, even though I got into this franchise since Sonic Generations then worked my way back since I enjoyed it so much. So seeing Sonic Forces going to the Generations/Colors boost gameplay would be awesome right…. right?
Well, I have a problem with the footage shown here. The level design is linear, very linear, even more linear than Modern Green Hill Zone in Generations… And for those who say Sonic games were always linear, I’d answer for the most part… no. The Genesis games are anything but linear, same for the Advance Trilogy. Adventure 1 and 2 had some linear level (more so 2), but there also more layed out levels too. Heroes was… experimental, but the level design was really good believe it or not. I ignore Shadow and 06 for obvious reasons…
Unleashed was linear in the beginning but had some branching paths here and there, especially near the end. Colors was mostly in 2D but the level design was centered around exploring and platforming, as well as the wisps. And Generations is my favorite of the boost trilogy since it has the high intensity action of Unleashed with very clever level design with lots of branching paths, some very well hidden, which feel like different levels entirely, not to mention platforming is plentiful and fast paced.
I hope this is just the beginning level since I want to see the level design that sold Sonic Generations for me.
I’m feeling somewhat the same. I dig the atmosphere and the return to some grittiness, but at the same time I’m not seeing the speed, if anything I’m seeing far more jumps towards enemies as well as sudden stops, then Sonic having to go through the speed buffers to go back to his fast pace, but what happened to Unleashed where you could just go faster depending on your ring count?, I absolutely loved that because it allowed me to rip through the map at the speed he was always known for.
Wow! at 1st I thought it was action hack and slash but no… kinda disappointed but well its not bad
didnt know sonic was a communist 😛
Maybe Dr. Eggman is actually Stalin is disguise and Sonic is trying to fight communism? Maybe 😀
Ey, maybe we should be throwing live hedgehogs at Antifa protesters here in the US.
Sonic Colours was great fun on both Wii and DS so if this game plays similarly then I’m delighted that it’s officially coming to PC.
am i missing something?? it looks basic as f**k
i’ve seen generations level mods who look better than this, what is Sega thinking???
cool, another sucky 3d sonic game……. just make adventure 3 already. 1 and 2 where the only good 3d sonic games.
Looks pretty good, but I’ve never played a Sonic game before.
Looks fun
you have to hand it to them…they are tenacious….if the first 100 times you fail? and then fail some more..keep trying you’ll get it…who knows this one might actually be good…looks like a pretty online runner, a fancy version of a phone game, but what the hell do I know?
Ok this I can play.
Just played some of the newer ones on Steam and they were hard AF to control, this looks way easier. And beautiful based on that video.
