Fallout 4 showcased with NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 Frame Generation

Modder ‘PureDark’ has released a video, showcasing Fallout 4 running with NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 Frame Generation. DLSS 3 Frame Generation can double performance in Fallout 4, allowing PC gamers to enjoy constant 60fps on various PC configurations.

In case you did not know, Fallout 4 is a heavy CPU game, especially if you mod it. Thus, DLSS 3 can significantly improve performance in it. Moreover, and since the game is locked at 60fps, PC gamers won’t notice any major latency issues or visual glitches.

PureDark did not share the specs of the PC system he used. Without DLSS 3, the game was dropping to the mid-50s in various scenes. By enabling DLSS 3, the modder was able to double performance (see the actual FPS number), and get a constant 60fps experience.

Unfortunately, there is currently no ETA on when this mod will become available. And, for those wondering, the DLSS 3 mods for The Last of Us Part I, Jedi SurvivorElden Ring and Skyrim are still behind a Patreon wall.

Enjoy!

  1. I’m right now playing fallout 4 with many graphics mods and rtgi from marty mcfly and it really does look pretty great! also running it on native 4k on a 5600x and rtx 3080 ti, never dipping below 60 fps. I’m a 4k60 guy so for me it runs great 🙂

    1. the work the modders have done with textures in fallout is just amazing, they look on par with any modern triple A game. The only thing that remains awful is building geometry

  2. Alternatively, here’s how you can improve the CPU bottleneck with any DX9-DX11 games:

Just use DXVK, but make sure to set the power-mode of Windows to “high performance”, otherwise Windows’ scheduler will not clock your CPU high enough to push higher framerates with DXVK, because the Vulkan API reduces the load on your CPU, as expected.

  3. Fallout 4 isn’t locked at 60 fps though. According to PCgamingwiki, the game has physics issues “above 120fps”. i.e. 120 fps is OK.
