Yesterday, Splash Damage announced that it has canceled its upcoming Transformers game, Transformers Reactivate. And today, an early WIP gameplay video for it was leaked online. So, you can see what the game looked like in its early development stage.
Transformers: Reactivate was a 1-4 player online action game. This new Transformers game would be using Unreal Engine 5 and would come out on both PC and current-gen consoles.
The game would let you play as some of your favorite robots. These robots would be unique, weighty, and powerful, seamlessly converting between vehicle and bot form. Players would battle The Legion, which is said to be the greatest threat the Autobots have ever faced.
As said, this gameplay video is from a really early pre-alpha build. In other words, it’s really unpolished. It also has a lot of placeholders. Still, it can give you an idea of what Splash Damage was aiming to create.
To be honest, I’m not a fan of a multiplayer Transformers game. And, to be honest, this gameplay video seems kind of boring. It shows exactly what you’d expect from an online game that has generic missions. So I have to ask now. Haven’t we gotten enough of these online games?
In my opinion, it would make more sense to develop a new single-player story-driven action game. Now that would be something that would excite me. Well, that is if the devs included action-packed and fun missions and not generic ones.

We have Transformers: War for Cybertron and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron as blueprints for what makes a really good Transformers game. Why in the hell would you do a online multiplayer game? I guess the goal was not to make a good game….

If the focus was less on the third person shooter aspect and more on the vehicular combat, this could very well be Twisted Metal Online. But I would have fully expected them to do the modern developer way of thinking and figure out what is the most fun aspect of what they've made and bury it like a cat turd and release yet another boring, unimaginative piece of trash.
