Dead Space 2 feature

Dead Space is ten years old so here is a scene from the second part being recreated in Unreal Engine 4

The original Dead Space was released on October 13th, 2008, and was a really great sci-fi horror third-person shooter. As we all know, though, EA tried to capitalize on its success and while its second part was great, its third part was filled with lots of unnecessary things/features that literally destroyed this franchise.

Dead Space was always a niche game and EA tried to appease to a wider audience which – obviously – backfired. Now I really don’t expect EA to ever release a new part in this franchise and even if it does, I don’t know whether it will stay true to its origins. But since EA wants to revive the Command and Conquer series, perhaps there is hope too for a new Dead Space game?

But anyway, YouTube’s ‘AmirHussein S.k’ has shared a video showing a space scene from Dead Space 2 being recreated in Unreal Engine 4. It looks cool and I believe it’s the perfect time to share it with you. Unfortunately, though, this map is not available to the public for download.

Enjoy!

Dead Space 3 Space Scene - Recreated in Unreal Engine 4.1

  1. DS3 sort of turned into resis evil 5, fun but not really what people would want in that kind of a series, bit hard to be a horror when you have non-splash damage grenade launchers and stasis powered chainguns, played more like a 3rd person Doom game.

  2. Thoroughly enjoyed Dead Space 1 and 2 and still replay them every few years. DS3, not so much. There were 2 things that I think were unnecessary irritations in the DS3. The hacking where you had to use the mouse and the keyboard at the same time to move between the data points. The mouse was easy but where you had to move diagonally with the keyboard it should have been left out.

The other thing was the loot drops were sometimes silly. I remember one level in particular where I had plenty of everything except out of ammo. Every single loot drop was everything I didn’t need and not a single ammo drop. That happened to be a level where I was getting ganged up on by necros from every direction. I ended up having to melee my way through the level. Even with my back against the wall while fighting off necros on one side a necro would just appear on my other side and knock me down and the animation to stand back up was painfully slow only to get knocked down again before I could do much fighting. It’s not fun when you have cool weapons but you can’t use them.

I would still like another Dead Space but more like 1 and 2.

    1. Dead Space 2 is one my favorite games ever made. I replay it once every 3 years. And I finish it twice each time. Aside from the story being kinda hard to follow its perfect imo. The graphics hold up suprisingly well for a nearly decade old game.

  3. That’s not from the second part. That’s Dead Space 3. Anyone who played DS3 would know after literally the first 2 seconds that’s the CMS fleet above Tau Volantis.

And also it doesn’t even look better except for the distance – a scene which already looked amazing in Unreal 3. But that’s to be expected without having direct access to the original assets and then completely remaking all of them, plus the experience.

  4. With everyone slowly accepting singleplayer microtransactions like “boiling frogs” I doubt DS3 would sell so poorly if it were released today. Shiny = high sales now, regardless of what’s under the hood. All the unacceptable practices of last gen are now acceptable.

  5. I picked a random spot in the video and he’s drinking booze at a bar. What happened to this being a space exploration game? Regardless it does look pretty amazing. Just wish they would actually release it instead of wasting time on stuff like drink physics.

    1. Because it clearly takes a lot of effort and time to add some basic fluid physics inside a cup.
SC isn’t just a space exploration game, if that’s all you want, you can play Elite, but even then it’s more of a spacetruck simulator.
These are small details for the sake of role play and immersion.

Even the current 3.3 alpha has 4 moons and a huge amount of space you can explore, with ship wrecks and derelicts floating around.
