Our reader ‘K putt’ has captured some glorious 8K screenshots from the tech demos that were included in Unreal Engine 4. As we’ve already said, Unreal Engine 4 looks beautiful but when rendered at really high resolutions, the end result is extraordinary. For bandwidth reasons we’ve resized the images to 1920K, though you can view the 8K images on K putt’s Flickr page. Enjoy!

Another batch of glorious, jaw dropping screenies buddy! Wowza, you told me about the UDK4 Demo the other day and I just had to check it out, they were so beautiful @ 1440p .. but damn… ain’t got nothing on that 4320p , my GPU’s are jealous 😀
Awesome.
I think my PC pooped himself a little just loading the images 😡
yay awesome 8k pics for my 1080p monitor!! definitely getting the complete experience.
…. ZOOM out.. it scales to your resolution, what are you running Netscape Navigator?
They’re meant for downsampling. So, if you have a 4k display, downsample them to 4k. 1080 = DS to 1080p… and so on 🙂
“the end result is extraordinary”
Overall, maybe. But in detail those screenshots are horrible and that’s because of those idiotic distortion, blurring and chromatic aberration effects.
Holy Crap!!! Michelangelo!? Its such an honor to meet you!!!! Im such a fan! do you have any links to your wor- oh yeah, you don’t have any of your work featured on leading Game Journalism sites. id imagine you like your games to be “cinematic”? and you dont care about graphics? oh you hear that? that’s the sound of ZERO fucks given 🙂
and just imagine when ps7 comes out we’ll have this type of resolution for our games.
Hodor!
I´ll be impressed the day I see this in a game running…
All of those demos ran with 50-100frames in 1080p on a HD 7950.
The game only renders what you see. So it’s possible for big games to run exactly as fluid with UE4. And the Cave level was kinda big and not just one room. They proabably used all the effects of the current UE4 build in that level.
I was getting about 30’s @ 1440p with HD 6870’s, and I can vouch that it’s not just a small room (the Living Room demo was tho) all and all I think the UDK4 games coming out will be running smoother then people think, I still need an upgrade tho LOL
Does your cards have 1gb or 2gb vram?
Not true, in the cave looking in the direction of the waterfall fps drops to around 20fps. I have the same card as you.
I didn’t drop for me iirc. Probably around 40-50frames in that level. To be fair, my card is overclocked quite a lot. But not 20-30 frames more overclocked.
No drops around 20 fps when looking directly at the waterfall in the cave level with everything on maximum? Pic or it didn’t happen. My 7950 runs 1000/1500 OC, what do you run?
F*CKN impressive I have to say 🙂
The more I see from this engine the more I feel we are in for a treat for upcoming games.
It seems way better then I was thinking and it seems it can even put the great Cry engine to shame!
These dam Unreal 4 Games cant release soon enough!! yes my pc may melt but what a glorious fire that will be ^___^
I already did this and posted them here downsampled from 6000×4000. By the way K putt forgot to disable “Camera imperfections” which blurres the image on the sides.

K putt you forgot to include the “Reflections Demo” shots, so I added my shots from this level, without camera imperfections.

Shots taking without “Camera Imperfections” which K putt forgot to disable, thus blurries the edges of his screenshots.

K putt you forgot to include the Reflections Demo, So I included 2 shots that I took.
Thanks, that’s more like it. 🙂
Glad you liked em 🙂
Here’s more:

Camera Imperfections really destroys the image IMO. Everything else is maxed out.
I made 2 shots of the reflection demo. And yeah.. i tried to disable the chromatic aberration but didn’t get it to work. I probably didn’t use the right commands. I disabled all the post-aa tho.
There aint no command needed for disabling Camera Imperfections. Just go to settings and turn it off, same place where u disable Ambient occlusion or HDR etc. By the way, here’s a shot I am proud of, unfortunately camera imperfections are still on here:

By the way 2: It’s not chromatic aberration, its just called camera imperfections.
It may be called “camera imperfections” in the tech demo settings but that’s exactly what chromatic aberrations are. 😉
Ok thanks for the headsup 🙂
That’s super great now instead of a still image try having a bunch of AI characters moving around in that environment with particle effects and explosions and real time lighting etc. and have it all run at a smooth 60fps in 4k. Not even these self absorbed PC elitists have a system capable of that, unless they spent the kind of money one would spend on a car to buy a PC.
When Unreal Engine 3 first came out it would run very slow on most beast computers but years later and look at it now even a cheap laptop can run those games.
Just like everything PC’s will get even faster in time.
Yeah and those are in 8K which is ridiculous as you would need to zoom 16 times to get a 1080p picture. And then compression, not sharp enough textures etc are a problem. But the main idea is just to show what you can do with the engine. Also I don’t think 4K is the future at least for me, those 21:9 aspect ratio screens give you the space horizontally for normal stuff and gaming. LG has one 32 incher which is like a stretched 27” 1440p screen. 16:9 4K is just too much pixels for a very long time.
“instead of a still image try having a bunch of AI characters moving

Like infamous?
“have it all run at a smooth 60fps in 4k.”
Those are images in 8k and not graphically impressive.
“Not even these self absorbed PC elitists have a system capable of that,”
They might, the weakness of next gen consoles is what allowed to use those crazy resolutions, but then again you are a sony fantard and know nothing about pcs.
but the question is when we will see all those amazing pic in real game
For the love of God, I need a new Unreal Tournament game!!!
