Polycount’s member ‘djoexe‘ is currently recreating Konami’s Silent Hill P.T. project in Unreal Engine 4. While this project is not finished yet (ambient occlusion is obviously missing and the environment itself is not finalized, while lighting still needs more tweaking), djoexe has shared a number of images showing the progress he’s done so far. This UE4 project has a lot of potential to come really close to Konami’s demo, so make sure to view the images after the jump. We’ll be sure to share the images from the final version of this project once it’s been completed but until then, enjoy these WIP images!

Fox Engline looks a lot more better, more atmospheric and better lighting. This looks like a more polished Sim’s game.
All Kojima did was put a post-processing noise filter over PT to create atmosphere. You can do the same in UE4
At the very least, UE4 has proper anti-aliasing and 60FPS on PC.

That doesn’t even look good at all. It looks mechanically reproduced when P.T. had the Organic and natural atmosphere. This is the problem with these crappy hashups that CryEngine figs and Unreal Engine fanatics do, they keep reproducing redundant games, levels and trying to ‘Show off what it can do’ but all it does is make it look like it came from an amateur. The first screenshot looks god damn horrible.

No biggie. Lotta PC games I’m looking forward to, 7970 is medium’ish range GPU but I know that since it’s not so costly and it can do the job well, if I crossfire it, it’d cost much much less than a single Titan card and outperform most of them. My PC isn’t the best, but I made it futureproof for a university-student type of plan where everything should be fine even for 4-6 years, I’d hope it’d be capable of handling Half-Life 3 especially whenever Gaben decides to release it. 10 year steam account happily owned by me too 😀

Good thing games aren’t all about graphics and I don’t share Mustard Race ideologies. Atmosphere, visual and artistic style are also desirable. Usually people using UE and CryEngine aren’t capable of creating such things, only stale copy-pasta environments.

Not every house and home has ‘Colourful’ environments. Hence why I said it had Realism, it was Organic and natural. I’m not going to expect to be blinded by brown and HDR lighting from a darkened hallway of a home that doesn’t have happy wallpapers or bright, vibrant wall-paint. That’d break the immersion of horror. Which clearly is to be avoided.

Well, I may stain them by labelling amateurs 😛 But that doesn’t mean I’m denying the fact that if given opportunities, that they can grow as a designer. Some hired, then the pros may see ‘potential talent’. Some this may be true and be given great opportunities, for others? Nope.
Gotta start somewhere, but it seems to just be an annoying trend that I’m seeing too often, and I often am a person who hates ‘trends’ that force their way into the scene. Crytek game/level/scenery remakes on just THESE two engines, if you follow N4G you’d see the same bloody topic but for a different game being referenced spam around the website 2-3 times every week, it becomes nauseating when browsing through gaming news to see it become a fad of ‘recreating levels in this same engine’ and it’s usually always ‘Meh’ and nothing fantastic and flaunt-worthy :/
