New mind-blowing screenshots for Microsoft Flight Simulator showcase next-gen graphics

Microsoft Flight Simulator is easily one of the most impressive – visually – games out there. While the game is still in an alpha stage, it looks absolutely incredible. Seriously, the game’s alpha build showcases next-gen graphics, and it’s a beauty to behold.

Earlier today, Microsoft announced that it will send additional alpha invitations this week. Moreover, some alpha testers hare shared a new set of screenshots from the game. And as you can see below, they look stunning.

In Microsoft Flight Simulator, players will be able to fly highly detailed and stunning aircraft in an incredibly realistic world. Players will also be able to create their flight plan and fly anywhere on the planet. Furthermore, the game will have day/night environments, as well as challenging weather conditions.

While it has not been confirmed yet, the game may receive some RTX treatment. IGN claimed this in October 2019, however, Microsoft and NVIDIA have not confirmed this yet.

But anyway, enjoy the following screenshots and stay tuned for more!

  1. Am I the only one who feels like this doesn’t look that “next-gen”? Yes, plane models are of exceptional quality and lighting seems nice, but terrain essentially looks like google earth stuff… and that’s been out there for a long while. I guess the one kinda neat feature is seamless loading of terrain as you fly above it but then again, terrain doesn’t look that amazing IMO.

    1. The planes themselves look exactly like what would you expect from a flysim in the current year, but those backrounds, the scope and detail (the lighting helps a lot) i think is what does the trick. Or you can just say is a glorify interactive Google Earth.

    2. It’s true. From my other comment “it’s more about the technology than the graphics. I haven’t flown around the most major of cities but I have around my house, and low to the ground, and it’s not impressive graphically at all. Those pics aren’t in the highest detail or zoomed in. It’s such an impressive experience, marvelous graphic techniques that create a really pleasant aesthetic, but not mind-blowing purely based on graphical detail.”

    3. It’s still the best terrain in the FS genre by far, it’s a really really good looking game in all the aspects, and it’s even better in motion

  2. Must be rather easy to blow your mind, bud. Screens look nice, but, they look about on par, or slightly better, than I would expect in this era.

  3. Honestly, it’s more about the technology than the graphics. I haven’t flown around the most major of cities but I have around my house, and low to the ground, and it’s not impressive graphically at all. Those pics aren’t in the highest detail or zoomed in. It’s such an impressive experience, marvelous graphic techniques that create a really pleasant aesthetic, but not mind-blowing purely based on graphical detail.

    1. Yeah, as soon as you get even remotely close to anything it starts looking like a game from 2001.

The problem is they are trying to recreate earth so if they ever tried to realistically model everything on the ground not only would no modern hardware ever be able to run it (even with help of streaming some of the data) but it would take them decades doing everything by hand.

  4. Nitpick: The term next-gen is unclear and over-used (since around 2000). In this instance I dont think it truly applies. Graphics look great but not a sudden leap beyond what we’re getting in some other Triple A games.

I’m interested in the game though, I have fond memories of the older versions.

Trivia: In the 80’s one of their first versions for IMB PC (and some Clones) didnt need an OS, it had it’s own built into the game.
