It appears that some new screenshots and a 6-minute gameplay video for Half-Life 2 RTX have been leaked online. Sadly, we don’t have any additional information about these shots. So, we don’t know from which build they originate.
Regarding the gameplay video, we do know that it was captured on December 21st, 2023. So, this is an old build. As such, it does not represent the quality of the game in its current stage. So, make sure to keep that in mind while watching it.
Developed by Orbifold Studios and in collaboration with NVIDIA, Half-Life 2 RTX will bring Full Ray Tracing/Path Tracing to this classic FPS.
Half-Life 2 RTX will support DLSS 3 Frame Generation and DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction. By using Frame Generation, RTX40 series owners will be able to improve the game’s performance. Since we’re talking about a fully path-traced game, you’re going to need it. And no, there is no word on whether it will support FSR 3.0. However, owners of older RTX GPUs will be able to use the “DLSS 3 to FSR 3.0” Mod. From what we’ve seen, this mod works fine in games that support Path Tracing. That, or you can use Lossless Scaling.
This free remaster will also come with new assets. These assets will aim to come close to the original ones but also make the game look on par with most modern-day triple-A titles.
Orbifold Studios has rebuilt materials with Physically Based Rendering (PBR) properties. Not only that but the team added extra geometric detail via Valve’s Hammer editor. In Half-Life 2 RTX, average world textures have 8X the pixels, and assets like the suit feature 20X the geometric detail of the original game.
Finally, there is still no ETA for when this remaster will come out. As soon as we get any word on its release date, we’ll be sure to share it with you.
Enjoy!

Radeon fans still claiming you can't see RT?
They will only see it when their graphics card runs RT at a playable frame rate. If somehow they run better at the similar price point they will always bring it up. Everytime nvidia innovates they will just say its a gimmick and when AMD does it; its the best thing ever. These sheeps will never change like apple fanboys.
*Does a big text licking corpo boots
*Calls others sheep
I have an RTX 3070 Ti. Ray tracing is just a stupid gimmick. All it does is kill FPS. It isn't just AMD fanboys who feel this way. Anyone who likes high FPS gaming feels this way.
Sure they can see RT, but only in screenshots
for this mean comment, at least 20 seething AMD cultist put you on ignore. welcome to the club. just one tiny remark, and they ignore you for life. that's how fragile AMD fangirls are.
I had 'discussions' with the idiot whose claim to fame was naming Freesync and went on to be employed by AMD. He argued he couldn't see the difference in CP2077 and that his 6900XT was just as good as my 3080. Last I heard of him he had purchased a 4090. Says it all really.
..
Yeah these f*krS cant get any more re**rded really!
Radeon fans are like Radeon cards.
The game actually looks better without ray tracing since the game wasnt designed for it ground up. Just like quake 2 looks better than quake 2 RTX.
Nope.
the original artstyle is screwed up it doesnt look good trust me ai upscaled textures is better than ray tracing.
The new models and textures look nice, but screw raytracing. I don't want to play Half Life 2 at 20 FPS.
Correct, HL2 with higher texture quality, geometry, updated physics and latest lighting tech, from svogi,HBAO+, subsurface scattering, etc
And I need all of that why? The new models and textures, sure. The rest of it isn't necessary.
Its ‘rasterised’ version of real time lighting effect with way less performance penalty than the RT version.
SVOGI for example, its simulated ambience light reflection from nearest object, for example if a car paint red, sunlight reflected from it will also have subtle red around the surface where its being reflected. The most easy to notice is in Bend Studio Days Gone , or in some Cry engine games
Ravenholm is looking great.
How many RTX 9090 do I need to play at 15fps?
If you have to ask then you can't afford.
Can’t and even if could, wouldn’t.
Yes.
You can run it with a 5060 at 240FPS no prob bro
* at 1080p with DLSS ultra performance that renders the game at 480p and 4X fake frames

Nice, but is it necessary?
As usual, RT brings a different flavor, but it also completely ruins the game's original atmosphere.
And I'm not sure I like that new atmosphere.
Also, HL2 is now 21 years old and it looks better than 99% of 2020s games.
Are those reflections RT? They look cool
no, thats how the base game looks
Half-Life 2: Update from 2015, not the original release.
Planar reflection (a second camera), 2000 tech. Cuts your framerate in half but RT cuts it down to 20% so for big, flat surfaces like water it's still worth it.
Actually, the screenshot you posted is not from 2004 original release, it's from Half-Life 2: Update that was released in 2015.
its a very exciting year for games visuals and for me .im so excited to watch digital foundrys videos after each great looking game comes out and also dsogaming graphics analysis .
yes, this is the way my friend.
How needs to play games, we are here just for the tech demos
better graphics makes games better for me
Looks GLORIOUS.
Thank u Jensen, thank u NVIDIA.
What would we do without you, we'd be still stuck on raster shaitland like certain Red company!
exactly .they brought us ray tracing and path and dsr and frame generation ….and now neural rendering .wow.cant wait to see 2025 games on pc .each triple a game will have some amazing nvidia touch .
RT is the biggest innovation in gaming graphics, and I'm saying this since day one. The amount of tears and foam AMDrones produced since then is magical
Frikking Amazing 🙌
Cant wait to upgrade to a nice 50X Gpu!
This is exactly how I remember this game 🥹
That does look mightly good! Gorgeous!
And video is gone… any other links?
