Resident Evil Requiem feature-4

Resident Evil Requiem PC Performance Analysis

Capcom will release the highly anticipated Resident Evil Requiem tomorrow. Powered by the RE Engine, it’s time now to benchmark it and examine its performance on the PC.

For our benchmarks, I used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz, AMD’s Radeon RX 6900XT, RX 7900XTX, RX 9070XT, as well as NVIDIA’s RTX 2080Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 4090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090. I also used Windows 10 64-bit, the GeForce 591.86, and the Radeon Adrenalin Edition 26.2.1 drivers.

PC gamers can adjust the quality of Textures, Meshes, Shadows, Reflections, Ambient Occlusion, and more. As we’ve already reported, the game supports Path Tracing. Alongside Path Tracing, it also supports Ray Tracing. Moreover, there is support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 3.1.5. However, there is no support for Intel XeSS 2.0.

In this article, we’ll be focusing on the rasterized performance. Those interested in Ray Tracing, Path Tracing, and DLSS 4 benchmarks can read our previous article.

Resident Evil Requiem does not have a built-in benchmark tool. For our benchmarks, I used the first street area you find. This appears to be one of the most taxing areas you’ll find early in the game. As such, it should give us a pretty good idea of how the rest of it runs.

Resident Evil Requiem does not require a high-end GPU to be enjoyed at 1080p. On Max Settings, even our dated NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti was able to push framerates over 60FPS at all times. So, rest assured that you won’t need a top-of-the-line PC in order to play it. Well, that is if you don’t use Ray Tracing or Path Tracing.

What’s interesting at 1080p is the performance of the AMD GPUs. At that resolution, the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT was able to beat both the AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX and the NVIDIA RTX 5080. Similarly, the AMD Radeon RX 6900XT was noticeably faster than the NVIDIA RTX 3080.

At 1440p with max settings, the only GPU that failed to deliver a smooth gameplay experience was the NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti. At this resolution, NVIDIA’s GPUs narrow the performance gap with AMD’s lineup. The AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT and RX 9070 XT are still faster than the NVIDIA RTX 3080 and RTX 5080, respectively, but not by the same margin seen at 1080p.

As for Native 4K/Max Settings, our top five GPUs have no trouble at all running it with over 60FPS at all times. At 4K, the NVIDIA RTX 5080 manages to beat both the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT and the RX 7900XTX.

Resident Evil Requiem benchmarks-3

Graphics-wise, Resident Evil Requiem looks great. However, it suffers from all the issues we’ve seen in pretty much all rasterized games. And that’s where Path Tracing comes in. Without PT, the game will not really ‘wow’ you. But with Path Tracing, Resident Evil Requiem becomes a graphical powerhouse and one of the best-looking games on PC.

Before wrapping up, I should mention a strange issue I encountered. There appears to be a performance bug/issue related to camera movement. When you move the camera quickly, performance drops noticeably, and you get lots of stutters. However, if you move it slowly, the issue doesn’t occur. I’m not sure what’s causing this. I was able to replicate this multiple times on both NVIDIA’s and AMD’s GPUs. So, here is a video that showcases this performance bug/issue in action.

Resident Evil Requiem - Performance Bug/Issue Related To Very Quick Camera Movement

All in all, Resident Evil Requiem is in a great state. The game will run smoothly on a wide range of PCs, provided you don’t enable its Ray Tracing or Path Tracing effects. It’s a bit disappointing that there is no support for Intel XeSS 2.0, but we at least have support for NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4.0. During my playthrough, I did not experience any annoying stutters, and the game will pre-compile its shaders when you launch it. My only complaint is with the aforementioned performance issue that is related to the camera movement. Again, I don’t know what’s causing it, but this is something that Capcom will have to address!
