METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.1 Patch 1.4.0 adds CRT scanlines & allows you to disable Smoothing

Konami has just released Title Update 1.4.0 for METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.1. This patch adds a Pixel Perfect Screen setting and a CRT scanlines filter, and it will now allow you to disable the awful Smoothing effect.

The ability to disable Smoothing in these classic Metal Gear Solid games is a godsend. Here’s a comparison between Smoothing On and Smoothing Off. As you can see, the game looks miles better without Smoothing. It can now look as sharp as its original PS1 version. I mean, look at Snake’s face. Without Smoothing, you can now see his mouth.

While it’s good to have Pixel Perfect, I was hoping for Integer Scaling support. Integer Scaling would be the ideal option for improving the game’s visuals. This option scales the image up to the greatest integer scale below its original resolution. And for God’s sake, stay away from the “16:9” or the “Fullscreen” options.

As said, Title Update 1.4.0 also adds a CRT scanlines filter. However, I’m not sold to it yet. As we can see, the game will become a bit darker when using it. I’ve also seen better CRT scanlines filter in other emulators.

Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its full patch notes.

Make sure to download these HD Texture Packs for Metal Gear Solid 2 & Metal Gear Solid 3. There is also a mod that allows you to crouch walk in Metal Gear Solid 3.

Have fun!

    1. You can still find them in Nexus, named “Upscaled Textures (AI Slop Edition)” From what i heard, these are buggy as hell and they’re just upscaled using an AI process without any manual editing after, this generally leads to a lot of issues

  1. It’s just better to emulate these as that’s all konami is doing anyways but much worse. Started the mgs3 version of this but I’ve just played it too much in emu and other versions for years there was nothing improved about these cash grab editions. Fairly insulting by konami pachinko intl. to gamers and they will probably mess up Silent Hill 2 remake next year, long ship stain streak of this pachinko maker.

  2. For MGS 2 and 3 they added audio options, you can ajust game and menu volume.
No seperate options for voice, music, sfx… what a joke.

    1. Awesome, my dude!
I don’t usually go for emulators, but I’ll download this one solely to play this game. Cheers!

      1. The GOG version can also be modded to have true 16:9 and restore PSX sound quality, apart from the nostalgia effect that would push you to the emulated PSX version(wobbling textures, 24 fps…) get the GOG version of MGS Integral as it’s potentially the definitive version of this game

  3. I loved as much as you will receive carried out right here. The sketch is attractive, your authored material stylish. nonetheless, you command get got an impatience over that you wish be delivering the following. unwell unquestionably come more formerly again since exactly the same nearly a lot often inside case you shield this hike.
