Konami has released a new major update for the PC version of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1. Title Update 2.0.0 brings new PC controls to MGS2 and MGS3, and adds new rendering settings. Oh, and you can finally enjoy MGS2 with Keyboard and Mouse.
To be honest, after its rocky launch, this collection finally feels great on PC. In the previous patch, Konami brought tweaks, changes and improvements to the first MGS game. And now, we have these major improvements for the other two games.
Going into more details, MGS2 and MGS3 will now have two modes, Original Mode and Adjusted Mode. The Original Mode will run the games at their original resolutions. On the other hand, the Adjusted Mode will let you run them at higher resolutions, up to 4K.
This basically means that you will be downsampling them from a higher resolution. As such, you will now be able to enjoy sharper graphics. To showcase these visual improvements, Konami shared two videos that you can find at the end of the article.
Moreover, Konami has added a new setting that allows you to choose to set in-game movies to their original or higher resolution versions.
And that’s not all. As said, the devs have added Mouse support to Metal Gear Solid 2. As for MGS 3, the devs have added a new Zoom In/Out Mouse Sensitivity setting.
All in all, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 will play better than ever now on PC. This is a huge improvement over its launch version. So, kudos to the devs for not abandoning it.
Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. You can also find its complete changelog here.
Have fun!

Those mad lads. I'm still hopeful we get Twin Snakes and MGS IV but I think this collection flopped so chances are slim.
There was a producer that recently said "you can probably connect the dots" when asked why this release was called "Volume 1" so that pretty much all but confirms it. There really isn't much they could put in a Volume 2 other than Peace Walker, Twin Snakes, and 4. I guess it could just be Peace Walker and then Portable Ops or Acid but I doubt it.
I'm really curious how that MGS4 PC port will be realized!
I have a hunch that Konami will simply load up all the assets & game logic of that PS3 game into Unreal Engine and then try to make it all work, somehow.
Similar to those "Definitive" editions of the PS2-era GTA trilogy.
Yeah that seems like the fastest way to bruteforce it.
Sounds janky/buggy/unreliable/unfaithful.
The ps5 should be powerful enough to emulate the ps3 even if not very proficiently.
Better late than never I suppose, I don't know why they even bothered releasing a PS5 version of this bundle when it ran at exactly the same framerate and resolution as the PS4 version.
Interestingly, September 25 marks exactly 4 years since MGS1 and 2 were re-released on GOG in 2020. Coincidence?
MGS2 was immediately removed from GOG after a month or so, on original mgs1 is available to buy in GOG. That version is better than the version we have in master collection.
"So, kudos to the devs for not abandoning it."
Are you kidding? They are doing now what they should have done in the first release, a year ago.
That release felt like they asked some intern to port the games to PC and released it without quality check or anything.
What an incredible gorgeous update, allowing for multiple resolution options! This is peak pc gaming.
This gives me hope for good MGS4 port in the vol.2 collection.
Awesome I'm glad to hear this stuff. Into the wishlist it goes
"We managed to do the bare minimum ports for 20 year old games"
Emulation is free and a better experience still.
These japense developers are TRASH when it comes to PC optimization. Just absolutely trash!
I hope they port MGS4 game correctly
In typical backwards fashion, why make the resolution arbitrary when you can just lock it "up to xxxx". And "Original" isn't even original, or else it would be sub 480p rendering. They probably didn't fix the orrible audio quality either. So you'll still have to use a mod to get audio quality on par with the 360/PS3 version that already had some issues with the reverb effects of the PS2 originals not emulated properly.
But this at least a step in the right direction I guess. What it should have been from day one. (With their dumb "Authentic" excuse being pathetic. Because it's far from it if you are aiming for authenticity with the PS2 releases and all the missing content and the above mentioned issues)
