Myrkur Games has released the first update for Echoes of the End, which addresses most of its awful stuttering issues. This is really great news for everyone who wanted to try this new single-player game. It also proves that we were right to complain about them.
As the devs noted, those hitches and stutters were caused by shaders not being captured correctly for precompilation. The good news is that they have identified and fixed them.
I’ve tried the update and I can confirm that it fixes most of the heavy stutters. There are still some traversal stutters. These stutters are similar to what we’ve seen in all the other UE5 games. As I’ve said, Echoes of the End uses UE5.5.3. So, it’s a shame that it still suffers from stutters.
Sadly, this update does not fix the NVIDIA Reflex issue. As of this moment, you cannot enable it, no matter what. There is also no setting for DLSS Frame Gen. However, the game supports AMD FSR 3.1. Something feels wrong about the AMD FSR 3.1 Frame Gen implementation. I’ve tried it, and the camera panning did not feel smooth, even at 100FPS.
So, there are still numerous issues that the devs have to fix. This update will not magically transform Echoes of the End into something extraordinary. Still, it will greatly enhance your gaming experience. I mean, the game will no longer freeze every couple of minutes, so you can at least play it.
Anyway, now that the game can run without any major hitches, I’ll be sure to test it on multiple AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. Our PC Performance Analysis will most likely go live later this weekend. In a couple of days, we’ll also get a new RTX 5090. So, I might slightly delay the article so that I can include it, too.
Echoes of the End is a new third-person action-adventure game. It aims to mix a personal, emotional story with exciting magic and sword fights, fun ways to explore, and puzzles that make you think. Inspired by Iceland, this adventure attempts to give players a deep and immersive experience in a beautiful and unique fantasy world.
In this game, you play as Ryn, a powerful magic user with dangerous but strong abilities. Ryn must fight to save her brother from a cruel empire. She teams up with Abram Finlay, a scholar and explorer with a troubled past. Together, they uncover a secret that could start an ancient war again and throw the world of Aema into chaos. This is a heartfelt story about trust, redemption, and sacrifice in a world close to war.

Why waste time on this game's performance analysis? Looks like another dud like South of Midnight according to Steam charts.
Because it's an Unreal Engine 5 game, and John has made a blood oath with epic games to cover every single one in exchange for an unlimited supply of graphics cards or something, I dunno.
