Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth feature-2

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth February 14th Patch Released & Detailed

Square Enix released today a new title update for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This is a small update, so don’t expect much from it. So, let’s see what it brings to the table.

The February 14th Update, also known as Patch 1.002, improves overall game stability. It also includes several bug fixes. And… well… that’s it.

Square Enix has not made any tweaks to the game’s shader compilation process (which still does not catch some shaders). So, once you update the game, you’ll get a number of shader compilation stutters.

As I’ve said, the good news is that FF7 Rebirth does not seem to suffer from traversal stutters. I’ve finished the game and I don’t remember encountering any, even inside cities. So, it’s a shame that there are these shader stutters.

Anyway, speaking of FF7 Rebirth, I suggest FF7RebirthFix. This mod lets you adjust the gameplay FOV, unlocks the framerate, and adds support for ultrawide or narrower displays. Its latest version also improves shadow cascades. Thus, you won’t see shadows constantly changing right in front of view.

Then we have this amazing first-person mod. This is another must-have mod for FF7 Rebirth. This mod lets you explore the world of the game in first-person mode. During fights, it switches back to a third-person viewpoint. As such, it feels like an official first-person exploration mode. It’s really cool, so be sure to download it from here.

Finally, you can download this 4K Texture Pack for it. This mod will overhaul over 3900 environmental textures. By default, the game has A LOT of low-res textures. Thankfully, this mod fixes numerous of them. So, make sure to install it.

Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its enormous patch notes. So, take a deep breath as you’ll be scrolling like crazy (/s).

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Great game. But way too many issues with stutter, blocky low res shadows, tons of lod pop on objects and shadows, and some really low res textures. I spent so much time tuning it to look good and run in a mildly acceptable manner. Need a 5090 to fully eliminate the shadow resolution and disable lod. But that card doesn’t exist yet.

    1. bought the game for $2, then I uninstalled it after playing it for 1 hour (excluding the many hours of tinkering the Graphics settings). Man, on top of the bad optimization on PC, it's just not for me. I'll wait for Bleach and Clair Obscur.

  2. Rebirth is unbelievably demanding for such an average looking game by today's standards. 155gb install size and yet you still have to download texture mods? then you lose 20fps because of it? Shame on Square Enix.
