Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Patch 1.0.1 Released & It Is 7GB

Ubisoft has just released the first patch for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Title Update 1.0.1, which is 7GB in size on PC. This is just a hotfix, meaning that it does not bring any major tweaks, fixes or improvements. So, let’s take a closer look at it.

As the devs noted, Patch 1.0.1 fixes some global issues. Moreover, it fixes a Photo mode issue that could cause a crash when taking a photo. And… well… that’s it.

Ubisoft has not brought any performance tweaks or optimizations. So, don’t expect the game to run better than before. I’m just saying so that you can temper your expectations. This isn’t THE patch some of you may have been waiting for.

It’s also worth noting that, according to reports, SpecialK does no longer work with AC: Shadows. The game will hard crash now if you use SpecialK with the latest version of the game. As such, you won’t be able to unlock the game’s cut-scenes which are locked at 30FPS. My guess is that its creator will release a new version of it shortly.

There is currently no ETA for when the first major patch will come out. At least I hope that Ubi will do something about the game’s scalability issues. Right now, you can’t significantly improve performance by lowering your resolution. The in-game graphics presets are also questionable. While you can improve performance by dropping to Very High, you won’t get any performance gains when you get to High.

Anyway, like always, Steam and Ubisoft Connect will download this update the next time you launch their clients. Below you can find its complete changelog.

  1. "This isn’t THE patch some of you may have been waiting for."
wish the devs shared your hopefulness. nobody is waiting for anything regarding this gibberish.

    1. 20% off. The next Steam sale is right around the corner, and Ubisoft is still a little too full of themselves.

Oh, and expect most game news media to suddenly start shilling for the game as much as possible right before the sale, while claiming that only racists don't want to buy it… Ubisoft marketing 101…

    1. im sure a lot of 9070 owners like myself are still waiting for them to add FSR4 or at least adjust the 3.1 implementation to make it upgradeable via the driver.

        1. Its pretty early in the year and shadows reception isnt terrible. they should at least make it to the holidays lol. I just hope its added before my month of ubi+ is up or before I finish the game.

          1. It peaked just over 64,000 simultaneous players on Steam. That's incredibly low for a new AAA release these days, and is often used as an indicator of poor sales. Even if that "2 million players" number they bragged about was true, and the majority of those "players" represented sales at full price, they probably wouldn't have come close to recouping their budget for the game.

You've already said you paid for Ubisoft+ which is far from the full retail price of the game. How many other people played it for less via Ubisoft's subscription service rather than buy it? If you combine what they made on all platforms, I doubt they broke $100 million, and from what I hear the estimated budget is considerably higher than that.

Granted while the game seems to have been yet another commercial failure from Ubisoft, the reviews on Steam are still "Very Positive", so the majority of the people who purchased it and reviewed it do seem to be enjoying it (at least on Steam). That being said, all of Ubisoft's stupid controversies surrounding the game seem to have killed its sales performance (at least on PC).

          2. Im about 30 hours in and I have to admit Im enjoying it more than I thought I would. This is my first AC game since I dropped the first one about half way through when that came out years ago. I think similar to SW Outlaws, part of my enjoyment is that I've paid a significant discount to play the game. I could also see how if all the games were structured similar to this, how the series fatigue could have developed the way it has among the average gamers who did play frequent the series. I think im about half way through the main quest line and its been about 2 weeks since release. I don't have any performance issues and can really crank up the settings as well optimized as the game is. I just hope they get FSR4 working on this before im done with it so I can see how that works.

          3. One of the problems with Ubisoft is the rinse-and-repeat open-world model they use. It does get pretty repetitive and boring over time. I was able to play some of their games, but by Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Far Cry 6 I had just gotten too bored with it. Granted Breakpoint had issues that made it less fun than Wildlands to begin with, so that didn't help. Ubisoft games are very much "make your own fun" kind of games, and as long as you are able to do that you'll find enjoyment in them, but once you're no longer able to you start to find them boring.

          4. yeah I could see that. The only games I've played from Ubisoft for like 10-15 solid years were Just Dance Series, Rainbow Six Siege and Fractured But Whole. It wasnt till last year with Outlaws and now Shadows have I actually checked some of these Ubisoft Open Worlds out. I think the games are pretty good as someone who isnt overexposed to the formula but again I can very easily see and understand where that fatigue develops and sways opinions against Ubisoft.

          5. I don't have a lot of Ubisoft gameplay experience, and I didn't play them when I was young so I don't have that nostalgia for their old games that a lot of my friends have. I've played Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, some of Far Cry 6, The Division, most of The Division 2, The Division Heartland beta (I think I signed an NDA?), Ghost Recon Wildlands, some of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, at least the first half of Watchdogs (talk about a boring game), some of whatever the latest Watchdogs was (even more boring), some of Assassin's Creed III (I HATED that game), Star Trek Bridge Crew, and some of Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Of those I think I enjoyed Star Trek Bridge Crew and Immortals Fenyx Rising the most. Star Trek Bridge Crew got boring after a while, but was still fun to play with friends every now and then, and it wasn't one of Ubisoft's typical open world games. Immortals Fenyx Rising I was playing on a free weekend, and didn't get to finish, but the gameplay was reasonably fun.

I actually finished all of The Division despite not having much fun. The second game is much better in terms of gameplay, but the story and characters aren't that good (the characters are even less memorable than the first).

Far Cry 5 was OK. The combat was good, but I found the cult annoying. I also often found myself annoyed that the main character would stand there listening to one of the main badguys yammering on about their nonsense, but wouldn't shoot them and put an end to things. Far Cry New Dawn wasn't as good as Far Cry 5, but I was able to finish it. Far Cry 6 I enjoyed at first, but at some point I just stopped playing it and sort of forgot it existed.

Ghost Recon Wildlands was very repetitive, lots of "go to this camp full of dudes, sneak in or shoot everyone, and do something or collect something/someone" and sometimes you'd go to the same camp more than once and it was always full of the same generic enemies again. The bonus here is it supported co-op with up to 4 players, so it was a good game to play with friends. Breakpoint was just bad. If you want to know more, Angry Joe's review was fairly spot on, with the exception that the game has changed since then to add a bunch of repeatable missions and events (seems like they want it to be an MMORPG).

  2. still surprised its an fsr 3.1 game that's unupgradable to fsr4. Thankfully the TAA isnt terrible in this and it's been more fun than i expected. hopefully, this is resolved before i beat the game.

  4. “Frankist” DEI plot to inject racial minorities into products to create a rift between Whites who are offended by the forced injection at the expense of ingenuity/fun and minorities who are encouraged to call everything racisss while nobody notices the Frankists continuing to control us both.
