Windows 10 May 2019 Update causes crashes/freezing issues on AMD Ryzen CPUs, bypass/workaround found

It appears that the May 2019 Update for Windows 10 is causing some crashing/freezing issues on PC systems that are equipped with AMD’s Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs. According to reports, these freezing issues are due to compatibility issues between the update and RAID drivers.

Going into more details, the May 2019 Update installation freezes on these PC systems with AMD’s aforementioned processors as there’s a compatibility issue between the RAID drivers and the update.

Thankfully, a bypass/workaround has been discovered so we suggesting using it if you own an AMD Ryzen or Threadripper CPU, and want to update to the latest version of Windows 10.

All you have to do is download and install the latest RAID driver from here, version 9.2.0.105, before applying/installing the May 2019 Update.

We are pretty sure that AMD and Microsoft will resolve this issue via a hotfix, however it’s good knowing that there is a really simply workaround for this freezing issue.

Kudos to our reader ‘Metal Messiah’ for bringing this to our attention.

    1. You say this like it’s something to be proud of. Your life is so exciting, that you manage to be “first”, on every article on here.

Secondly, the fact you are so intellectually damaged, that you find some merit in being “first”, is troubling.

Dead serious here now. Seek help. You need it.

  1. It’s crazy how some people on Ryzen 1st Gen 1000 / 2000 series are claiming they never had 1 issue at all with the update while others are.

You would think a company like MS would have a proper QC team since so many people around the world rely on their OS / Software.

Heck Windows 10 1903 current would not install on my PC due to freaking BattlEye Software that is used as a Anti Cheat in certain games…

    1. Looks like it’s down to raid drivers, which not many will use. Agree though, I don’t understand how Microsoft gets away with this disruption again and again.

    1. I’m using Manjaro as my primary Linux OS…dual-booted with Win7 Ultimate.
I am planning to start playing with other distros again in a few days to see what could be my potential next choice of Linux.

      1. iv been with solus os for about one and half year and the experience is top notch, not only its rolling release to maintain the latest improvements but also has the best steam integration, stability is over the top,and it has the silky smooth speed of arch.impressed with the journey so far and i cant think of any distro that has the best implementation as solus does.

    1. But you do realize that WIN 10 is actually just an updated Windows Vista7/8 OS….. there is really not much differences really under the hood. They want us to pay for the new OS every couple of years…. the same way FIFA 19 is an updated FIFA17/18 game and so on.

  2. The day they all (Steam etc.) are fully dropping Win7 support is the day I’m switching to Unix-based OS. Screw this Win10. It’s like 30th news about major flaws in the past year.

    1. You do know you can use any W10 update for 1.5-2 years straight with no worries, right? You don’t need to update right away if you don’t want to, lol.

  3. Dont worry my PC frozen on intel/nvidia hardware, as always windows updates at its finest.

    1. Same here, I am never in a hurry to update windows nowadays. I am surprised AMD has a fit all motherboard vendor chipset and RAID driver though.

  4. Win10 has had so many issues, I’m glad I went back to win7. In all honesty..I know they’ll end Win7 updates Q1 2020, so instead of upgrading (again) to Win10 I might have to install Linux instead.
