Square Enix and Epic Games are currently giving away for free the latest three Tomb Raider games on Epic Games Store. From today and until January 6th, PC gamers can visit their EGS pages and acquire their free copies.
As with all EGS offers, this is a “free-to-own” and not a “free-to-play” offer. This basically means that once you acquire your free copy, you’ll be able to keep the game yours forever.
Tomb Raider is a reboot of the franchise that came out in 2013. It was followed by Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2016, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018.
Epic Games is giving away the Game of the Year Edition of the first Tomb Raider game. Moreover, it’s offering for free the 20 Year Celebration of Rise of the Tomb Raider, and the Definitive Edition of Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Offering 3 old single player games that were available on torrent sites for years ? Not so epic to be honest, not to mention the fact that this trilogy has the weakest episodes of the series, i mean yeah they’re better than Angel of Darkness but that’s like being physically better than a disabled person

Steam is having a really good sale on Tomb Raider games and DLC (but only for the base games bought on Steam) but even so it would take a little less than $20 to buy all 3 for anyone who doesn’t have the games.
Loved the first one, while ROTTR i bought in 2018, have yet to finish it. Not sure if i should get Shadow though, 13 bucks with all the DLC’s doesn’t sound too bad.
Shadow is the best of the trilogy by far, less of these sloppy gunfights and more exploration + well crafted and varied locations, the first one has awful character writing especially for Lara and the second doesn’t add any improvements over the first one except for tedious semi-open world activities, but i have to admit that the puzzles are really well designed in the entire trilogy, probably the only constant aspect this trilogy has
I own about 20 games on EGS and I never use their launcher. I just drag the executable from the individual game folders to desktop and click on those to launch. You can even launch games when your internet is down in this way.
I was addressing your dislike of the launcher. Not DRM in general. You can bypass using the launcher with any game on EGS.
You don’t have to be online unless the game has some DRM that requires it.
I don’t like using the EGS launcher because I don’t trust them enough to store my login info so it’s a pain in the butt to login to their launcher.

this is nice and all but the first one is the only one really worth playing. at the time it was gritty and satisfying. MP was forgettable. The sequel was very meh overall, and the third was so bad I barely made it through the demo as the story was so ludicrous I couldn’t imagine playing the full game and having anything close to resembling a good time.
Lets find something to complain about with free games…
The launcher for Epic Games does work, but I still don’t see a reason to buy games on there.

I wouldn’t recommend buying games from EGS if it’s at all possible. I bought two $5 dollar games there because I couldn’t buy them anywhere else at the time. Part of The Walking Dead Series.
I now have a $10 investment in 20 games total.

Umm but the launching method, holy sht. I made my EGS account a few years ago , added a free game but never used it. I slightly remember the whole store and launcher being a turn off, and now Im reminded why. Maybe Im just so used to Steam that other platforms come off as weird.
They already fixed the problem with the steam version. They also improved ray tracing and added an amazing DLSS implementation. I’m glad I paid like 20 bucks for it. Game has great HDR and looks and plays great with modern hardware.
