The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind looks great in OpenMW with over 300 mods

YouTube’s ‘Mr. Moonshine’ has shared a video, showcasing The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind running in OpenMW with over 300 mods. And, this modded version of Morrowind looks great, and way better than its vanilla version.

Now in case you didn’t know, OpenMW is a free, open-source, and modern engine which re-implements and extends the 2002 Gamebryo engine for The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind. OpenMW comes with its own editor, called OpenMW-CS, which allows the user to edit or create their own mods or original games. Both OpenMW and OpenMW-CS are written from scratch.

What’s also cool is that Mr. Moonshine has shared the list of mods he used. Therefore, you can download the mods and make the game look exactly like that in the video.

Lastly, the OpenMW team is currently working on a brand version of it. One of the most exciting features of the upcoming version 0.47 is the addition of distant LOD (distant land/statics). And, as you may have guessed, this video also showcases this new feature.

You can download OpenMW from its official website. As the team has noted, OpenMW is currently more stable and less buggy than the original Morrowind game engine.

Enjoy!

  1. Cyberpunk with RT Psycho and DLSS Quality looks great, this however does not.

MW was the best Elder Scrolls from a RPG perspective. I’ll probably get around to trying this one day.

      1. This game is not from early 2000’s, this is a new engine built to run Morrowind assets, and having other modern qualities. Reason why it is called OpenMW.

        Pay attention.

        1. Next time they should release a brand new game with their new engine instead of relying on assets from a 19 year old game, capish?

      2. The title ‘The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind looks great in OpenMW with over 300 mods‘ claims the game looks great. I am saying it doesn’t as things have moved on. Is that really so hard to understand or do you always need the hand holding?

        1. There was no standard set for what “looks great” have to be, mentally challanged genius. If a game from early 2000’s can be modified to look like a game from 2010, then that would be a massive achievment.

          1. Would be laughed for launching a remaster? Normal people don’t expect a 2002 game to look like a 2020 game, but they expect improvements. Fanboys would be ok with vanilla, and people with delusions such as you would expect a next gen game.

      1. Are you talking about open-source engine OpenMW? I think I read somewhere it had been improved lately, but that it clearly needed optimizations in every aspect.

When I used to play Morrowind, I didn’t even use this yet, actually.
So I’m not sure how that goes…

  2. i modded the game a few months ago with a modding list i found on reddit.

Didnt look this good, i dont recognize the assets must be new mods.

    1. open mw is very stable. Propblem is not all mods support openmw, especially old ones, but they get patches.

  3. I tried to install mods on my android in OpenMW and there were no results. I’m talking about sheath/unsheath mod. So now I’m skeptical.
