The Crew Motorfest is another game from Ubisoft that will be skipping Steam at launch and will release exclusively on Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store.
A couple of days ago, Ubisoft made the game available for pre-order. And, as you can see from its official website, the game is only available for pre-order (on PC) via Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store. Moreover, the official press release specifically states that the game will be available on Windows PC through the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store.
Last month, we revealed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be also skipping Steam at launch.
The Crew Motorfest promises to build on the legacy of The Crew franchise to make it the best open-world action-driving experience in the series. Players will race through the city streets of Honolulu, go down the ashy volcano slopes, adventure deep in the lush rainforest, drift along the curvy mountain roads, or just chill down on the sunny beach.
Ubisoft will release The Crew Motorfest on September 14th.

There is no 30% cut, they just need to sell more copies of their games.
Valve gives special deals to large companies so that they get to keep more of the revenue from their AAA games. The 30% nonsense has nothing to do with why Ubisoft are putting games on the Epic Games Store, they said it themselves when they originally made the switch that it was to drive more sales on Ubisoft Connect (called “UPlay” at the time).
There’s also the fact that Epic Games guarantees a minimum payout to developers even if their games don’t meet sales projections, so companies like Ubisoft can release trash after trash and still get paid.
The problem with most people is that there is no analysis to anything they read and hear. Whatever they read first that is it. You can tell the difference between someone who has done the research then brings the analysis vs the ones that don’t. You are in the green, that person you are responding to is in the red. It’s kind boggling to me man. They are so easily controlled Via information.
It might also be people just reading headlines, and since most headlines are clickbait (probably for that exact reason) anyone who does that ends up with a really broken understanding of what’s going on around them. An excellent example is when all of the headlines read “Microsoft buys Bethesda”, when they actually bought Zenimax Media which happens to own Bethesda (a technicality, but still incorrect to say Microsoft purchased Bethesda).
Granted it’s not abnormal for people to take what they want out of an article, and ignore the rest.
Till this day, most gamers don’t know what Zenimax is. They don’t know that Zenimax is what makes the decision. Only big studios like Arkane makes their own decisions without Zenimax interference and alot of that behavior is under contract. So things like DRM in the game decisions are made by Arkane, same goes to 4A studios and deep silver. 4A is as scummy as they get without Deep Silvers help.
You summed it up quite well. That’s why I’m Glad Deck13 got purchased by Focus Entertainment, what that means, DRM-FREE on all their games.
I thought Arkane was a small company, especially by comparison to Bethesda (which is technical two companies, Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios). Arkane isn’t a publisher and while they’ve released 11 games, the most recent of those is Redfall (which some have speculated they were ordered to make, and subsequently ordered to release before it was ready).
When I think of companies that might have at least some autonomy that are owned by Zenimax, I typically think of id Software. Granted John Carmack has been gone for a while, but I got the impression that Zenimax wasn’t going to have creative control over them when they purchased them.

That developers are leaving Steam is because Steam wants a massive cut, this is Steam’s problem, not Ubisoft. Same reason Diablo IV is not on Steam.

They don’t put games on Steam at launch because that’s when they get the majority of sales and Steam’s ridiculous 30% cut hurts them. After 6 – 12 months when sales fall off and they start discounting the game they’ll put it on Steam
I really don’t know why anyone would buy a Ubisoft game on Steam or Epic because you are going to have to use the Ubisoft Connect launcher anyway and Steam and Epic simply add yet another layer of DRM and potential startup problems so you may as well just buy from Ubisoft directly

I didn’t check out the crew 2. But the first one was typical Ubisoft driving. In that they haven’t ever had anything that even remotely resembles proper physics/handling in any of their games. I’m not saying that as a car sim enthusiast. I love arcade racers like Forza Horizon. The crew was just trash. I remember in the first game you could turn the wheel all the way left and then right repeatedly and the car would keep driving straight just rotating on a center axis. It was just stupid. Ubisoft is a terrible developer.
Purchased it the other day when it was on sale. Still regret it. Removed it after 15 minutes.
