Splinter Cell Chaos Theory feature

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory – First-Person Mod Released

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is considered by many the best Splinter Cell game ever released. And YouTube’s ‘Mark B’ has just released a first-person mod for it. According to Mark, this mod changes the “over-the-shoulder” aiming view to make the game partially playable in first person by editing the necessary values found in the SplinterCell3Settings.ini.

As Mark noted:

“To get working, my understanding is you must create a new profile after making the changes to the ini. In other words, I don’t think this will work on existing saves and if you want to to make changes somewhere down the road, you’ll need to start a new game. This isn’t entirely clear to me, there may be a way to make it work somehow. But essentially my advice is make sure you have things set up and working how you want them from the very beginning before embarking on a playthrough.”

In order to install this mod, you” have to simply replace your SplinterCell3Settings.ini with this one.

Mark has also provided a guide via which you can fix the different mouse sensitivity for the X & Y axis (that the game has by default).

  •  Go to the same ini file
  • Search for [Echelon.EPlayerCam]
  • Find this value: m_pitchSpeed=25000.0
  • Change it to 40000.0 to match m_yawSpeed or whatever you prefer

Have fun!

  1. Oh god. Just today I was cleaning and checking some old boxes and I found my original copy of SC: Chaos Theory. Installing now.

      1. F’ really? I just got Chaos theory from humble bundle Edit i just tried booting the game on windows 10 the game runs fine for me with no issues

        1. StarForce DRM was only on the 1st Edition Physical Release, the Digital Steam Release doesn’t have it, so this issue only affects a minority of those still playing CT, but yeah…….

  2. This particular “category” of mods fascinates me.
It’s so interesting experience the game from different angles/views. 🙂

    Great work!

    1. Thanks! I’m with you regarding this category. I don’t know what it is, but I really tend to enjoy 3rd person games played in 1st person. MGS Ground Zeros really worked well this way. I’ve also been playing The Witcher 3 in 1st person while exploring. Tried combat & it was terrible, so I just pop to 3rd person. Same with Batman Arkham Knight. Another stealth title, Velvet Assassin, has a 1st person mod on moddb & it made this game much more enjoyable. For that one, I used a mod to enable quicksaves because the checkpoint system was awful.

    1. Navigating the environment in 1st person is surprisingly smooth. For people who prefer to avoid detection & not engage the guards, it works really well. Popping out to 3rd person for some of the interactions is a bit clunky, but really it just puts you in the default position. Switching takes some getting used to, but I’m more than half way through the game at this point & I can’t imagine playing it any other way now.
