Sonic Mania releases on August 15th

SEGA has revealed – via a new pre-order trailer for Sonic Mania – that its latest Sonic game will be released on August 15th. This pre-order trailer features sketch + color animation by Tyson Hesse, and new custom music from Hyper Potions.

Sonic Mania is developed by SEGA, Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games, and will feature new zones and remixed classic levels from past Sonic games, and will offer three playable characters (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles).

We don’t usually post pre-order stuff but since this is a new trailer revealing the game’s release date, we decided to make an exception. It also features new gameplay footage from the game.

Enjoy!

  1. Anyone else think the frame rate looks janky in the trailer? I thought this game was to run at 60 fps?

    1. It’s stupid YouTube’s 30FPS profile, it does that to any material that is 60FPS and you use the 30FPS profile. It even does it when I record my own game that runs at 60FPS, so this is normal that it jacks it up.

Just do a search for Sonic Mania in steam and it says “an all-new 2D Sonic adventure running at a crisp 60FPS with stunning HD retro-style graphics”. Also do a Search in YouTube for Sonic Mania videos, Polygon has some 60FPS source gameplay vids that look epic @ 60FPS.

Don’t worry its going to own.

      1. Thanks for clearing that up. I was going to avoid it if it ran at 30 fps, that would just be terrible with a game like this. Plus, it’s 2D. 60 shouldn’t be a challenge at all…
I’ll check out that video. Thanks!

  2. Awesome! I can’t freaking wait for this and am glad I have it pre ordered already for the PC.

I think it looks amazing, Sonic is back 2D4|if3. Its like the resurrected the 32X version but pimped it out and brought back Sega CD Sonic plus gameplay.
