    1. Actually the games that i remember the most are the games with the best Audio. Ain’t that crazy? Here is a few that are still on top of my mind. I got a whole folder and collection of games that sound awesome, but right now i can only think of a few. 😛

Battle for Middle Earth 2 / Command and Conquer Generals/ C&C 3 (Love the soundtracks, the map sounds, the unit sounds and the effect sounds.)
      Silent Hill games
HomeWorld 2 (Look it up, its totally amazing sound wise imho)
Diablo 2 (I love the soundtrack and every single sound, from the potion looting to hittin)
Age of Mythology (really sweet music)
      Stalker (great atmosphere and sounds)
Battlefield 3/Bad Company 2 (super realistic sound effects)
Half Life 2 (awesome music and sound effects)
      Penumbra (same like Stalker)
Max Payne 2 (amazing soundtrack that i cant even forget.. 10-15 years later)
      Metro (same like Stalker)

There is nothing more special than a game that Looks good, plays good and SOUNDS good. Its truly something special. Reminds me of the Animated series for Batman.

P.s. Forgot to add Donkey Kong Country Returns (kickaass soundtrack too, and it fits with the levels and things that you do.)

World of Warcraft/Warcraft 3(A ton of cool sound effects and awesome music)

      1. Quite the list there 🙂 If you don’t have great audio, you can be missing out on that oh-so important level of immersion, especially with a great headset (Sennheiser 598’s) it can really help take you away. Roll on VR in the next few months, or so.

      2. I would add to that list Survarium (creators of STALKER), it has the best gun sounds and effects in the first person shooter market hands down.
The game is progressing slowly and it has a long way to go…yet the sound design is superb.

I was a fan of BF:BC2 sounds and BF3 (also Medal of Honor had great weapon sounds) but Survarium has so many layers and variables depending from where you shoot (if you are in a house made of wood it will sound like being in a “sound studio” and more details), the sounds from someone walking on the top floor, the echo sounds, the sounds in the distance, and also the ambience sounds which they nailed before in STALKER.
Is the only game that can scare you with the sounds.

Another great game with incredible sounds is Elite Dangerous, the best sounds in a space game for sure. It has every little detail that make you really feel that you are inside of the ship like no other game. You can even hear vibrations from the engine and stuff like that.

One racing game that makes things right in the sound department is RaceRoom Racing Experience which has the most realistic engine sounds in the market as well. The difference compared to other racing games is that there is no sound designer or artist…it is an actual sound engineer who makes them.

I really love sound design in games…if the sound is bad the immersion is not the same at all, at least for me.

        1. Yeah. I know a ton of games that look good, play good and feel right (game wise).. but their sound is lacking in a big way. Those games more often than now are forgotten by me. I’m happy to see another person that love the same thing like me. 😛

P.s. I haven’t tried Elite Dangerous or Survarium sadly. You did hype me to try them however! 😛
