Bethesda has released the first update for the special edition of Skyrim. According to the release notes, this patch features general performance and optimization improvements, and updates some sound files to not use compression.
Moreover, this patch fixes a rare issue with NPCs not appearing in proper locations, as well as an issue with saves erroneously being marked as Moddded, even though no mods are active.
This patch is available via the beta branch for Skyrim Special Edition. In order to access this beta branch, PC gamers will have to follow this guide.
- Log into Steam.
- Right Click on Skyrim Special Edition in your Library.
- Select Settings.
- Select Betas.
- A drop down menu will appear. Select Beta.

- When done, Skyrim Special Edition [Beta] should appear in our Library.

“some” sound files?!?!?!
why the hell they don’t let us just get an uncompressed sound pack and be done with it!?!!??!
Agreed. Although you can always copy the sound files from one game to the other. I heard it works.
yes it does
i was really hoping the special edition would pull a bioshock remaster and remove the fps cap but nope….i HATE physics based fps caps
I hope those perf improvements included Riften, because every other town seems to work fine for me fps wise. That and the pathway near Riverwood, which for some reason dips in the lower 50’s and late 40’s sometimes. Had to uninstall Open cities mod since that was mostly an issue with Riften, but the city itself does need some sorting out.
Also wish they would toss in the HD textures they handed out with the Steam version. Even with the static mesh mod, the SSE vanilla textures look hella dated, though I am sporting SSE texture mod, which has changed some textures, but not all of them.
My ultimate dream would be for them to remove the fps cap though.
FIX G-SYNC
Good good very good I ll wait for couple of weeks till they make skyrim special edition without issues and start playing again 😀
Warning, this beta update will Crash your saved game at some Locations.
This is not a coincidence, right?
i dont buy remasters for a reason i already played them…lol.remasters are lazy cash grabs by devs.
buy old game..and install enderal much cheaper
For people wondering; a little short of 1GB in size
The update does not change a thing.
