    1. yea their target is console market and they are gonna buy it in millions. i don’t see why Sony should implement backward compatibility with their next console (if there is any) as long as people pay for remasters lol.

      1. Indeed. I guess we’re supposed to be grateful they even deigned to give the PC the remastered version this time (Tomb Raider Definitive)? Not that it’ll sell for much anyway, LOL.

        1. for those that haven’t bought it already depending on the price it can be a good deal even on PC but as long as they can buy the vanilla version cheaper on PC then that’s what is suggested (as you said, they can simply mod it and get way better results)

          1. Yeah, I’m guessing that’s what they figured too; “a relaunch will bring in some sales, even if only in minor numbers in the end compared to the original, but enough to justify the costs & then some all the same, no doubt, so why not?”

          2. They can mod this new version too. Within a few months hopefully the DX9 mods should have DX11 versions out.

          3. which is why i said based on the price it is worth it. though it is a free upgrade for previous owners though on PC apparently, so that’s awesome.

          4. Well you did suggest getting the vanilla version initially, and then modding it. Technically that wouldn’t be the wiser thing to do since you can mod this new version as well. That’s pretty much the only reason I brought that up. Though there’s one confusion… I’m not sure of the current status of ENB on DX11; if it’s not supported on DX11 yet, then maybe you’d have a point there.

But honestly who cares anyway, it’s FREEEE~~~!

          5. It’ll most likely have a simple DX11 wrapper, I think. It’s a remaster after all, not a remake.

          6. Oh? Huh. Nice. They really must not have expected to make much on the PC version after all…..

I mean, come on it’s ZeniMax we’re talking about.

          7. yea or they probably didn’t want to deal with the backlash.

still it is cool to see them treating PC users fairly. they make millions easily on Steam at launch after all. Rockstar make even more on PC, yet they probably don’t care about PC as much even now.

          8. They had to give it to PC owners for free, we don’t need to buy it, even the expanded memory of 64-bit isn’t required, as ENBoost had already fixed the 3.1GB issues for us.

To get any Skyrim mods on console, they needed the PC modders to upgrade the mods, only a few will need no upgrade.

This is basically Skyrim using Fallout 4’s engine.
Mods will not just simply work, beyond a few basic texture replacers.
BSA files have become B2A, so all Workshop mods need converting from BSA to B2A.

Even so consoles get no SkSE, so no MCM, and all the best mods use SkSE, for MCM at least
ENB’s and Reshades are also not available, no file access on consoles, no Ini edits, No dev console. Very limited mods only.

Bethesda Softworks are not doing this for PC users benefit, only for themselves.

  1. OMG, what a joke,Skyrim remastered LMAO, Bethesda only showing consoles again. They can keep their remaster junk on the same garbage engine.

    1. It’s not on the “same” engine. This is on the updated FO4 engine. If anything it’ll allow modders to make the PC version look even better due to not being restricted to DX9.

        1. It’s got DX11 though so that’s pretty swell. Granted it’s not UE4 or CE5, but it’s still a hell lot better than the current DX9 iteration.

          1. That’s about all it’s got compared to Skyrim’s as far as I can tell, but yeah.

          2. But the potential is immense if you take mods into account. In fact, some ENB presets wouldn’t even be needed due to the effects being present within the engine itself this time around.

          3. So what? Fallout 4 has DX11 and it runs like junk, even on consoles it runs bad and it’s still going to have all the limitations of the engine like Fallout 4.

          4. So… you don’t have to rely on ENB that much. Because the updated DX11 renderer enables the use of various post–effects and SSAO without resorting to ENB. It saves time and improves performance.

      1. “Also it’s free to current owners of the base game + DLC”
Really ? nice, i own the complete edition or whatever edition + all DLCs, not going to download the free update since i don’t care about the game anymore but good to have it for free.

        1. Shamefully, I do too……

Snagged it (Legendary Edition) at 75% off while waiting for SkyWind 😀

I hope this doesn’t set them back at all >.<

          1. Yeah the game was below mediocre in my opinion but nice of them for releasing it for free 😀

          2. Bethesda did really good this time. The fact that I love the game makes this even better. I honestly never expected it to be free. Maybe a 75% discount at max. But wow.

          3. Indeed, especially amazing considering it’s ZeniMax we’re talking about. I also expected a discounted upgrade for previous owners, rather than a completely free upgrade.

        2. Yep, and it supports modding too. I hope to see the current DX9 mods being ported over to DX11 soon. It’ll also help people who have trouble running ENBs as well.

          1. I guess we will see most of the mods being converted to this version if they don’t F’ it up with new DRM etc…

        1. As per that logic, UE, UE2, UE3, UE4 are all the same engine; only updated versions.Either way it’s a free upgrade so there’s no reason to complain.

  2. Breaking News (hot from the aftershow): Todd Howard said that this Special Edition will be free for owners of all content of the original release. You’re welcome.

  3. It should be mentioned: the Special Edition is completely FREE to all owners of the Legendary Edition (base game + DLC) on PC.

    1. In short, if you bought the game on Day One at full price, you get stuffed over people getting the Legendary Edition for peanuts later… Sometimes… 🙂

      1. But then since you bought it on day one, you’ve already got your money’s worth by the time the prices come down. You’re not losing out in that sense. You didn’t have to wait like the others because you paid more.

    1. they go and give consoles the best feature of the pc version, and what happens?? they all turn into pirates.

  4. The previous consoles versions ran like @ss, so it makes sense they cashing in on this for the new ones, but wouldn’t it be funny if this one ran badly too?

Also, years of modding on PC, what’s going to happen compatibility wise?

Also, I can’t even like the game, why am I caring? :v

    1. It’s a remaster, rather than a remake, so unless they f*cked with the Engine in some way, they should largely be compatible, I think.

Or, it makes sense that they’d be, at the very least.

      1. It looks like the Fallout 4 engine though.
But yeah, I guess they wouldn’t be so mad to do something like that.

        1. Come on mate, have you even noticed a single difference between the Skyrim Creation Engine, & the Fallout 4 version?

I mean, aside from the DX11 wrapper they slapped on it.

          1. But they’ve told me it was a new engine! D:
WHY WOULD THEY LIE TO ME?!

Seriously though, I think it could break a bunch of mods. Any slightly modified bit of code on to that engine and it all goes haywire.

          2. Yeah, but there’s different levels of breakage – I mean, they could be changing sh*t so much that people will have to redo their mods from scratch, or (most likely) they could be changing just enough that people will have to make a few tweaks, figure out how some things have changed, & done.

          3. At the very least the most of the ENB mods wouldn’t be needed, most of the effects seems to be in the game now. SKSE I guess would need to be the priority on a update maybe.

Or maybe the special edition will be a separate install or save. IIRC on consoles Fallout 4 mods do something like that.

          4. That’s a good point; it would be nice to know if it’ll be a separate thing like Human Revolution Director’s, or if it’ll replace the original entirely.

    2. I remember when it first came out i played it for like 20 hours and never actually did much to the main campaign for some reason i didn’t care for it, to be fair it was my first skyrim game but i loved fallout 4 so go figure

      1. *First TES 😉

My problem is with the series is the disconnection I feel as a player, their worlds are great, the exploration feels organic and quite immersive but my character is a soulless doll, I don’t feel it. In Morrowind the writing helps with it, but still, never felt like I or my character where a part of the world.

  5. Well I watched the show. I am more interested in Dishonored 2. But it will be fun to load up Skyrim again to see the changes that I don’t have to pay for at least.

  6. This is for the consoles obviously. Its not bad that a ton of people will get to play it, and Bethesda will get a nice amount of free cash. The more money they get, the better games we get (right? or? :D)

If any of those effects aint on the PC already, i hope they will patch them up. I can’t really recall at this point.

  7. I’m just so glad most noteworthy mods require SKSE and therefore are never going to be available on console

  8. I happened to play Skyrim when they gave us a free weekend, and I think it was overhyped and overrated. Graphics and characters looked stiff and like made out of plastic. Not a big deal? Quite the opposite. It’s an RPG. RPG with horribly-looking characters? This genre is all about them. So I was disappointed and couldn’t see where all this hype was coming from.

      1. Hopefully they’ll be ported over to the new engine, at least those which require porting that is.

  9. Its for the “new” consoles.Lets milk again.

If you are on PC not bother, you have plenty of mods who make this old engine game looks like new one.

  10. So, they literally use the hard work of modders and Boris (ENB) to implement into a ‘special edition’ and re-release it for the masses… Brrrrrrr

  11. I never played skyrim, but i gotta say they seem to be handling elder of scrolls better than falout, fallout 3 and 4 were meh compared to skyrim atleast in terms of presentation and lore.

Anyway so is this remaster working with mods on the go or they will be issues? There will be issues bethesda, we know they will.

  12. Expected it to be free on PC since it doesn’t look all that different besides the lighting. I hope to god they sorted out the piss poor LoD because in Skyrim that became noticeable a hell of a lot sooner than in F3 and NV.

I’ll be getting it for free regardless since I own the DLC from the original game, I might even boot it up once it comes out since I can see mods being rewritten for it and thus making my modding experience that little less of a hassle like it was for the original game (one of the reasons I don’t play Skyrim these days is due to mods being a hassle to get working right with one another and it’s a user based issue).

  13. Skyrim desperately needed a 64 bit executable, so I’ll take it. Game still sucks, though.

  14. If you own Skyrim and all its add-ons or own Legendary Edition on Steam, you’ll get a free upgrade to Skyrim Special Edition on Oct 28 #BE3
