It appears that the next Call of Duty game, that is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, will be called Call of Duty: WWII. From what we know, Sledgehammer will Call of Duty back to its roots, and it appears that its first artworks have been leaked online.
It’s worth noting that the source behind this leak is the same one that also leaked Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare a year ago. Not only that, but the title font appears to be similar to what Activision has been using, so this seems like the real deal.
As always, we strongly suggest taking these artworks with a grain of salt as Activision has not confirmed anything yet.
As the title – and the artworks – suggests, this new Call of Duty game will take place during the World War II era.
Enjoy the artworks and stay tuned for more!
Thanks CharlieIntel

WW2 is boring and FPSs around this era need to die.

Future Warfare need to die not WW2
ww2 has lasted longer than fww2 and uture warfare games. seriously. But what has not been overdone? Modern settng is overdone as well, so they went to future warfare.
needs*
I think it’s because those arcadey shooters have too little authenticity to them. WW1, WW2, WW3 – it doesn’t matter. You’ll still have some BS like red dot sights (but without a laser and with a magical black dot instead ) or mostly automatic weapons in WW1. In WW2, you’ll be able to select the PPsh-41 as a German and the MG42 as a Russian.
In other words, you’ll constantly experience the same modern warfare (obviously I mean the gamey interpretation of modern warfare) but with reskinned weapons.
Every AAA online shooter is samey because AAA devs don’t want to risk by making something requiring more attention, being less user friendly or unfamiliar to the audience. Remember, they have to cater to kids.
I’m sorry if it wasn’t clear, but I meant that unrealistic aperture sight from CoD: WaW, which functioned just like a red dot sight. This is an utter bullshit. You can’t just paint a black dot on glass and aim with it as if it were a laser pointer.
There was also the ACOG scope’s counterpart in the game.
It’s obviously tasteless reskinning of modern technology. Those sights didn’t exist at all, they just were introduced to the game to cater to kids who can’t live without their tacticool attachments after playing Modern Warfare.
In my opinion, it would be stupid to make a physical object a representation of someone’s training. It’s unlikely if you ask me. A more probable explanation revolves around aforementioned MW kids.
The right way of representing someone’s training would be by highlighting something on the HUD, for instance.
And even then, you didn’t play as commandos in the game, but as conscript soldiers. They aren’t highly trained.

I think arcadey shooters based around ww2 need to die, they have already been done to death and we have come full circle with almost no one investing in realism.
Lol’d.
Zzzzzzzz
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!
By making it another Call of Duty.
I really don’t think the backclash had much to do with the setting, it was probably just call of duty burn out.
Also, what a creative name, you literally cannot get more creative than that.
I havnt bought a cod in a very long time, but this takes my fancy if true
Gee i wonder why they are doing that. I wonder if Battlefield had something to do with it?
Likely…their space shooter is not too successful..
“not too successful” well, for a CoD title. It blows even most AAA titles out of the water. 11.28M is still insane for what people consider a “massive failure”
Indeed, this title market is average gamer, teen or kids.they will buy it whatever the quality is as long as titled “Call of Duty” in the game cover
that applies to bethesda’s games too, fallout skyrim.
11.28 for what? Modern Warfare 3? Infinite Warfare?
Why would you think I mean MW3? of course IW
Because those numbers are ridiculous for Call of Duty 2016, which as far as I’m aware, sold significantly underwhelmingly.
Got a source? 😛
Most of the numbers I cite are from vgchartz for future ref
No one with any brain cells evaluates a game based on it’s “sold units.” No one gives a god damn. It means nothing to us. We’re not getting the money. We have a game and if it’s pure trash, we call it out as pure trash. Thus it’s a critical failure according to anyone whose opinion is relevant – gamers. Gamers and only gamers. Still the casual gamers will throw the aggregate by rating it as good, but their opinions are also irrelevant.
Their shooters have been not successful for the last 6 years, they’re trash.
lolwut. They’re trash alright, but they’re massively successful.
Yeah that’s what i meant, although the very latest aren’t that successful either, are they?
There is a huge, huge disconnect between PC gamers and standard business practices in reality. PC Gamers, at least the bitter jaded mob that post frequently on PC Gaming sites like this one for instance, have no idea that Video Games are a business. Money Talks, BS Walks.
I wonder how many people are complaining about the state of PC Gaming today and shedding tears on Metacritic and on gaming websites and pre-ordering and buying the next game on release anyway?
There is no disconnect between PC gamers and the fact that COD games just suck now. It isn’t about business practices. It’s a value judgment.
CoD sales have been tanking for years, why do you think Activision is no longer bragging about its sales numbers year over year?
Same as with World of Warcraft; they stopped reporting subscription numbers once it got too humiliating for them to keep talking about quarter-over-quarter drops.
Where can i find these quarters they keep dropping?
Lol’d.
Not really just this years, blops 3 still sold 26.26M units
Again, source?
Because the general consensus as far as I’m aware is that it’s been a year-over-year thing for a while now, with the obvious exception of Treyarch’s Black Ops series, which seems to actually still sell quite well, since it’s still received well by the community;
“Black Ops III sold ‘significantly’ better than Advanced Warfare and Ghosts, the two previous video game titles in the Call of Duty franchise”
“According to Activision, Black Ops III was one of the best-selling games released for the eighth generation of video game consoles, and that its financial performance is significantly better than its predecessor, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.”
Call of Duty UK sales fall 48.4% over Black Ops III
Update: Despite Week One boxed sales being down by almost half, Call of Duty Infinite Warfare revenue was down by a slightly more palatable 25 percent compared with the Black Ops III launch.
This is due to the higher price of the Legacy Edition, which had a price of £69.99 in the UK and contained a copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered – a remake of the hit 2007 title.
Still more sucessfull than bf1 and stop this nonsense, you cant develop a game of that scale in less than a year, they have been developing this game for years.
less than a year? its a new skin on the same old game year in year out. That should take any competent dev what? 8 months?
yes sales are declining and COD is trash, but even in declining sales the numbers are still HUGE.
Well there’s a lot of buzz lately and over the recent years with WWII in mainstream. A few movies came out based on that era and a few games aswell. Dunno what prevented them from making a WWI game instead – probably too boring in their eyes and seeing how COD is a run and gun action game it wouldn’t mix well I guess.
Don’t they have to deal with 3-year “inertia” because of their development cycle, though? So that the latest time they could react was somewhen in 2014? And BF1 wasn’t known then.
Assuming nobody leaked DICE’s plans to them long before the general public heard about it.
After all, NDAs only apply if you can prove they were broken.
No probably not. Infinite Warfare still sold more than Battlefield 1 even after all of the hate it got. Sales have been steadily decreasing though that’s why, nothing to do with Battlefield at all.
Yeah, COD:IW single player was not too bad, but the Multiplayer, huhh :S
singleplayer was good, mp was trash.
Not too much, fans want it for years I think!
Anyway, the game has been development in 3 years!
Battlefiled 1 was announced last year,or …maybe SHGames spied three years ago? 😕
I wonder if is there a problem with COD: Infinite Milk? 😀
Looks like its trouble in paradise, the celeb ActiVis$$$ CEO its not very happy and he try to milk again.
Dont be stupid, this game has been in development long before infinite warfare.
Can’t wait for the inevitable WWII expansions based on the British and Russians, then leading onto ‘modern warefare’ (with the bad guys resembling ISIS as the new twist! No more stereotypical Russian villians) and then shifting the focus onto the Vietnam War and of course a Sci-Fi shooter… I feel like we’ve gone through all of this before.
Seems like there is no such thing as the word fatigue in the Activision tower. I’ll give it a chance anyway… for all we know it could be a time travel game and that the WWII images we’re seeing is just one of many periods in which we end up in, for some reason… But nah who wants to be that creative 😛
COD serves it’s fans desires I guess but it’s worth noting that sales have fallen off since Black Ops 2. I like the single player campaigns but MW2 kind of turned me off to the franchise for now. Hand-holding is one thing but yelling at me over and over to do what’s next is another. Leave me alone and let me choose my own way and if I fail then I fail and I will try something different.
doesn’t matter in the least, Activision does not know how to make a good game
they’re just lobbyists, only caring about how much money they can generate off microtransaction and DLC
never bought a single CoD game since the original black ops and i don’t intend to.
I highly doubt they would use such a simple name. I also doubt they would use real looking pictures for cover art.
They should have made it in an alternate WW3 scenario, kinda like Iron Storm.
We’re living in prelude to the WW3, just look at middle east and africa
That would just be Modern Warfare. To quote wikipedia:
Iron Storm is set in an alternate history in which World War I never ended, the game takes place in 1964, the 50th year of the war, and focuses on an Allied soldier’s mission to stop the Russo-Mongolian Empire from developing nuclear weapons and his later efforts to end the war.
there is a simpliefied version of that game called world war zero, also a sequel taking place in the same universe called bet on soldier and 2 expansions.
Well their population increases too fast, in a few decades africa will have more people living in it than usa, obviously the west cant absorb all of those. So something will happen.
I have lost interest in COD games after COD Ghost which was pure trash.
Well what do you want them to change? Battlefield is the same sh*t, different setting yet nobody is complaining about that.
thank you
Ill stay with Day of Infamy and H&G.
H&G? Also how’s Infamy now?
A WWII shooter with microtransactions, modern weapon DLCs, and sparkly pink dildo camos.
Gotta admit, they did a pretty solid job with the cover art (it’s miles than that edgy crap Battlefield 1 used). That said, we know Activision’s gonna ruin it with their same gambit of gimmicky crap that we’ve gotten since Modern Warfare 2 (CoD 4 kept that stuff to an at least acceptable level). WWII games like Day of Defeat and the first several CoDs were great due to their simplicity and balance, something we no this game doesn’t stand a chance of retaining.
I loved battlefield 1 war stories, and I hope they do a great job with the campaign! I love the setting and I never play the multiplayer in shooters, more of a WoW kind of guy.
I don’t like how they are just using live photos on those, and not the game shots. Might be fake.
COD1 and COD2 are some of my fondest gaming memories. But something tells me this new one will be lame.
Is it just me, or are these CoD pre-reveal “leaks” becoming rather standard practice?
Too humiliating/embarrassing for the Americans, since they didn’t flat-out “win” against the “Evil Commies.” Same as Vietnam. The “big, glorious victory” war was “the one against the Evil Krauts”, everything else was some variation of an epic fail, so they avoid them, as these still sell primarily in the US. Same reason why this’ll be the same old factions; US, Russia, Germany.
Hell, Homefront needed to do a whole Korean-US invasion to pull off that storyline, even, because it’s the only way it’ll sell in any considerable numbers 😛
LOL ^^
After the massive sh*tstorm that The Interview (movie) made, I think they’d shy away from that, too, unless North Korea gets to win 😛
Well, to be fair, Crysis at least featured North Korea doing illegal-as-f*ck sh*t, whereas The Interview featured North Korea being invaded & subsequently having their God-Emperor insulted by a fat American jackass & his closet dog-f*cker sidekick.
Or, was “Frodo” the one who ended up with the puppy, in the end? I forget.
????????????
meh, i can play sniper elite 4
With COD sales falling off a cliff I would be happy if Sledgehammer/Activision offered large player counts and BF like dedicated servers. That would get my attention again. Otherwise I won’t waste my time.
They may change settings and add gimmicks all they want, but CoD will only truly change when they introduce actually new gameplay and not the same “Get shot a few times, go prone for ten seconds to heal, fire a few shots, repeat”.
Fact: no one but casuals care.
