Capcom has released a new video for Resident Evil 7, focusing on the game’s development. The development of Resident Evil 7 started in 2017 and even though Resident Evil 6 was a really successful action title, for this new Resident Evil title the team felt the need to return to the survival horror genre.
What’s really interesting here is that the game’s producer, Masachika Kawata, was involved in planning an earlier version of Resident Evil 7 back in 2013. That cancelled version was more action-oriented and more similar to Resident Evil 6, however the team soon realized that this project wasn’t coming together.
On the other hand, Koshi Nakanishi revealed Resident Evil 7 was inspired by the Evil Dead movie. Evil Dead takes place in a cabin and involves very few characters. Inspired by that concept, Capcom decided to make a horror Resident Evil game as ‘compact but deep‘ as Evil Dead.
Capcom’s employees shared more interesting details about the development of Resident Evil 7 in the video, so be sure to watch it!

Thank god they scrapped the original version and they gave us this gem.
It feels like they were inspired by more than just Evil Dead but it was a good mashup of all the classics. good job overall. now only if we get Dragon Dogma 2…
“The development of Resident Evil 7 started in 2017…”
Capcom completed the development in weeks? They’re officially the best developers in the industry.
They used zombie developers
Would’ve been cool if they took inspiration from the classic Evil Dead movie, we could’ve kept our chopped off hand as a pet.
I’m curious about this scrapped version of RE7,is the protagonist is Ethan or the regular Chris,Leon???
Does the video document at what stage of the game’s development Capcom decided to grant the 12 month timed-exclusivity deal to PS4 for the VR mode and/or how much Sony paid them to give PC gamers the shaft?
Do Kawata and Masachika share their views pertaining to their employer’s anti-consumer business practices?
The wall-running in RE7 left a lot to be desired. Let’s hope they amend this in future installments.
Thats not long. Must be why the game is so short. I did enjoy most of it though.
