The Steam Summer Sale 2016 has ended and according to SteamSpy it was way more successful than the previous one. SteamSpy has provided some numbers to back up those claims, and stated that this year’s Steam Summer Sale event has generated $236 million in revenue. For comparison purposes, last year’s Steam Summer Sale event generated $160M in revenue.
Moreover, during this year’s Steam Summer Sale, around 37 million games were sold. For comparison purposes, there were 33 million games sold during last year’s event. That’s 4 million more games.
It seems this Steam Summer Sale was way more successful than the previous one: $236M vs $160M in revenue, 37M games vs 33M sold.

With no flash sales how was this summer sales successful?
Maybe it made people wait less and buy more.
Because you didn’t have to wait around to see if a game was going to be cheaper.
Flash sales are very anti consumer, it favors only a small amount of individuals that have time to sit on steam all the time and wait for a new flash, those of us with responsibilities were kicked to the curb and that wasnt fair. The new structure is way more consumer friendly and the numbers dont lie, a LOT of others agree and spoke with their wallets.
You realize that without flash sales there will simply be no flash sale prices? If a game was -50% and -75% in a flash sale, it’ll just be -50% now through the whole sale?
ok and…..? once again, flash sales are ANTI CONSUMER. The numbers dont lie so i dont know why youre trying to debate this. A lot of people hated the flash sales with prices bouncing around and missing something by a few minutes so they got rid of it, youre the minority that actually liked flash sales.
That’s like saying being able to refund a game is anti-consumer because it requires effort. The flash sales gave the consumers more (and generally better) options. You may have disliked them, but they were better from a price point of view if you managed to buy at least some game(s) with the extra discounted prices.
You don’t want the consumers to be brought up. You want the rest of us to be brought down to your level.
Again…youre the minority who thinks that way. Maybe one day you will earn the ways of pro-sumer business practices.
You did not provide a single counter-argument to his (or her) points.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=786b3k9O7Tw Oh and i just found this i implore you to listen to the first 5 minutes, youre the kind of person hes talking about.
That’s entirely up to publishers. Some will just do 40-50% discounts. Some wil do 75-80%. If 50% is not enough just wait for the next sale. But at least you don’t have to keep guessing if the game will have a flash/daily deal and whether price will change during sale. You don’t have to check in 3 times a day and worry that you’ll miss a flash sale. As a result sales are less stressful and more predictable so you can plan your spending better.
Why would having Flash sales make it more successful?
oh please flash sales bs, just have games at a low price for a significant amount of days and people will eventually fall for them. None of this STAY TUNED ON STEAM SHOP, MAYBE SOMETHING YOU LIKE WILL POP UP REALLY CHEAP…i got a life.
As I said above. Without flash sales there will simply be no flash sale prices? If a game was -50% and -75% in a flash sale, it’ll just be -50% now through the whole sale.
I’m glad i waited for Batman Arkham Knight though. At first it was 33% then it went 50%.
I’ve bought a ton of Vive games this year…good sale
Such temptation this past sale, glad I was able to control myself and only bought a few games. u.u
I didnt buy a dime, OMG, feels so sad!!
Well I bought a lot lol till next time 😀
Actually even without flash sales it was good for me I got the best deals possible for the games I wanted thumbs up
I haven’t bought any game on this sale. But I got $6 from selling those cards that dropped during it.
I had 280 bucks on my steam account and didn’t buy a single game
I feel like I bought less this sale than I have for the past several sales, but considering games I want to play are probably coming out slower than I am buying them, plus bundle sites giving me games I might have considered buying during a sale, it’s sorta predictable. Not sure how each sale is not less successful than the last considering I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat as me.
Some titles can be purchased even cheaper in other stores, even after reduction, which is not that great for steam really, but as long as they can get people paying…. Good for them.
isthereadeal com
They know many people are willing to pay a little extra to get it on Steam instead of somewhere else, so they abuse that.
Then have another one at xmas.
I didn’t think this sale was that great to be honest, I bought far less this time than any other.
I think they make up for those stats from one title alone which I already had before sale. Doom!
It was a great pick up for those that didn’t have it, 40% off on a new AAA title is pretty rare, I think it would have made them a lot of sales and if I didn’t already own the game most certainly would have bought it.
