Project Retrograde is a new Resident Evil-inspired game

IGN has just shared the first trailer for Project Retrograde, a new Resident Evil-inspired narrative-driven action survival game from Invercity Games Works.

In this game, players will make use of the game’s Gungfu-centric combat system to explore, scavenge, and survive at all costs. They will embody a bounty hunter to explore ancient ruins to uncover the cause of the apocalypse.

As I said, this feels like a clone of Resident Evil. Jombies? Check. Protagonist that looks like Leon? Check. Camera similar to that of RE4? Check. Action combat mechanics and QTEs similar to RE? Check.

Not only that, but there is an enemy that looks exactly the same as John Wick. This is an obvious reference to him. Even Keanu’s iconic “Yeah” line is in there.

The first part of the trailer shows some cutscenes, while the second part has proper gameplay sequences. And, honestly, it does not look bad. There are some very cool things here. For instance, the player can shoot an axe in mid-air and then grab it. In another scene, enemies use ladders to reach the player.

All in all, this could turn into a pretty good game. Yes, it’s a Resident Evil clone. But hey, at least it looks kind of cool. So, I don’t really care if they copied Capcom’s formula. As long as the end product is polished and fun, I’m in.

There is currently no ETA on when this game will come out. Naturally, though, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Enjoy!
